Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

Before I turn in for the night, I just want to add that, after last night, I'm betting Shane isn't thirsty for Round 2 anymore. Mr. "I know everything about cons" took a devastating L on this one.

Does anyone have any idea what Shane's playing at now? He pulled a complete 180, sending Nick superchats last night, proving REEfamous wrong by giving non-locals a way to support the con, and if I understand the timing right, recently agreed again that Vic is a good guy.

Is it as simple as wanting to be a good little boy so he doesn't get kicked like a naughty dog, or is there more to it?

Ty has seen the contract and expressed surprise that it was only 2-3 pages, while more lawyered up enterprises often have absurdly long contracts for even minor things like the rental of some 1000 square foot business property.

I think that might have been talking about one of Todd's contracts.

Terri Doty is claiming she has inside information that Vic had no such contract that needed to be honored.

Loading up on some more blue checkmarks to be proven wrong, I see. I wondered when we would get more of those.

These idiots don't know how being a contractor works, do they? You sign a contract and come hell or high water you fulfill your end of the bargain. Or else. Either with Vic's VA work or his convention appearances. Same shit with minor changes. It isn't like being a W2 worker where you can just make some excuse to the boss and not show up that day. Self-employment 1099 and SCorp is a whole new ballgame.

Hmm. Law nerds, is it typical for a lawyer to directly serve papers to people they're working a case against like this? It strikes me as highly unusual, but by Ty's account, he and the Amazons are very emotionally invested in this case.
Rule 103 of the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure states, "no person who is a party to or interested in the outcome of a suit may serve any process in that suite". I would read that to mean that they couldn't.

That was Todd's contract, but I would bet that the only thing different on Vic's contract was the name.

My money is she is probably thinking the "He never signed a contract" angle. Even though in Texas if you say announce someone coming to a Con, that is now a Prospective contract.

That's a pretty standard rule and the federal rule is the same in that respect.

Considering it's Texas they don't really want people at odds in a lawsuit confronting each other in public.

Tortious interference doesn't care in Texas. Even if there wasn't even anything in writing but just an informal agreement it would still count. So it's a dumb lie even to bother telling since it matters not in the least to the cause of action.

Yea probably should have finished that with "Remember we are dealing with a VA, those people who haven't really have a clue how the laws work in their own state" I really wonder once the suits drop if these people will still try to jump in front of this freight train.

I suppose that could be a bad side effect of this whole thing… cons get bisected into "woke" and "alt-right" cons, just like everything else in this stupid culture, because the "woke" cons won't invite the "alt-right" guests, and the "woke" guests won't respond to invitations from the "alt-right" cons (so defined because they will invite the "alt-right" guests). And who loses are the teenage fans who don't give a shit about politics.
Maybe. That could happen. But I wonder how it'll effect the industry as a whole too. Right now people are being really careful, but if lines start being drawn...

I've been wondering the same thing. I wonder if he knows something we don't, or if he's finally seeing the clouds on the horizon.

So she supposedly doesn’t feel safe at the con, but will still go to the same city and set up a “signing” somewhere close by.

Where there will actively be less security.

A+ thought process.
I actually think its a genius move.

You can't get assaulted at a signing you have by yourself if literally no one cares about 4th Bulma to show up.

Welp, she's denying that she pressured conventions to kick Vic out.

Last I saw he's still running with 'just because the conventions with existing contracts are honoring those doesn't mean he'll ever get any more' (ignoring Hawaiicon is a new one) and ' Istandwithvic is a toxic presence ruining his chances of recovery'.

I think this is him still trying to play the 'sensible but concerned ally' thing.

ETA: Actually, it's a form of gaslighting/abusive behavior. He wants to ingratiate himself to Vic and make himself look like the only reasonable person who actually cares about Vic's interests while simultaneously isolating Vic from everyone who actually does care about him, so that Vic will do whatever he wants him to do.

I know this probably sounds obvious, but if that's what he's trying to do then he's fucking delusional.
Vic might be (by all accounts) a good-hearted guy, but he's not retarded.
It's obvious to everyone that Shane is a snake. It's just hard to tell what exactly his plan is.

I think he's just trying to scavenge anything and everything he can from anyone who drops it.

I don't disagree, but he sure seems to be acting like that's his angle. Of course this is the guy who thought he scored a major victory by getting Nick to admit he's not Vic's lawyer and to suggest a contract would be necessary for TI with a contract, so...history doesn't make him out to be a clever guy.

Horribly :optimistic: but maybe he genuinely thought he was helping Vic with his stupid plans of getting Vic to come forward and finally realized people he sided with don't want to help Vic. I personally don't believe this, Shane seems to be too much of a snake for such a redemption arc, but the thought is nice.
He's probably just trying to switch sides before it's too late and he gets absolutely fucked into the concrete by Ty, provided he is even touched.
Successful big-shot anime VAs are officially more stupid than Shane.
