DarksydePhil / TheyCallMeDSP / Phil Burnell - General Discussion

I don't think DSP realizes that it's a cliche' that even good hitters fail 70% of the time. He think he should be able to drive every pitch over the fence.

Edit: DSP tried to stretch a single into a double, his character held up because he was going to be thrown out at second, DSP didn't understand what was happening, and now believes that his player stopped running because "the camera reversed his controls."

Tbf RTTS has dialogue/roleplay options and stats you buy with experience its got some rpg elements.

I won't 'tism about the fun of an in depth be a pro mode but fucking hell Phil at least know the FUNDAMENTALS.

Its even worse than QB Burnell failing forward in Madden. Or Phil driving in games (I wish he'd play something more realistic like F1)

It can be entertaining to watch someone who doesn't know much about a sport play a sports game. You get to see them learn the rules, pick up on the intricacies, become more interested in the sport itself, get more invested in their team's success, etc.. With Phil, there's none of that. He just doesn't give a shit and has no interest in doing anything fun. He wants to get through it and move on to the next game he doesn't care about. Boring. Unwatchable.

DSP is completely bored right now, but he won't switch out of career mode and play an exhibition game or do anything else.

Edit: DSP created a power build and is playing like Ichiro. He has a decent enough BA, but is hitting nothing but singles. Of course, as soon as I said he had a decent batting average, he goes 1-for-5.

I'm confused about this car wreck. There are too many stories.

So Phil was driving on a "dangerous" road. A lunatic ran him off the road into a ditch. The insane driver also hit him since Phil said it was a "hit and and run". The driver sped off and was never caught. Phil's door crumpled and his car somehow burst into flames like in a movie. Phil's head got burnt but there is no scar tissue. Phil almost died and when his mom came to the ER to see him, she just scolded him for driving on that specific road. Phil then sued the driver who was never caught and got a huge settlement. This accident caused his back injury except when it was caused by playing touch football or by having to wear a backpack in elementary school.

I've seen dozens of accidents, cars don't just explode like in grand theft auto.

Got a huge settlement from a driver who was never caught? Huh?

I finally found this in a June 2016 SOKast with Aireaidlord, one-time IRL friend of Phil and mod for his channel during his first tenure on Twitch.

Aireaidlord drops the bomb that Phil was in a "car accident, getting paid in court", stunning Fred and the rest in the voice chat to silence.

"He got in a bad car accident where he almost died. He talked about that car accident, but he never linked it to his back. He sued the living shit outta the person that did it, and they were guilty of it. Cuz it was a hit and run and he almost died. So, yeah, basically he's been getting residual money cuz of the medical condition."

Starting at about 2004 or 2005 when the accident happened, "there was money involved, that was helping and I think that's what he dipped into when he got the condo and certain stuff."

The thought is there was a stipulation at some point, perhaps an examination by a doctor, that could challenge Phil's right to his compensation money. So he rushes off to Washington and breathes that famous Seattle air, miraculously curing his back, and it's never mentioned again.

Aireaid Lord car accident lore

Edit: this seems to be in 2004 or 05. Phil graduated in 2000. Maybe he has been in two near fatal car accidents?

Major League Boredom is running wild today

I mean, the Connecticut condo is a WAY better example, but this shows that DSP doesn't know what a "sunk cost" is.

DSP is basically been hitting nothing but singles despite being a power build. He should have just started over and made a speed build to increase his batting percentage and get some steals. But because he made a power build, now he thinks he's stuck with it forever even though it's not working and he's not really trying to not hit singles at this point.

"Personality: Maverick"

Whenever I see Phil play a game in which he's created an idealized version of himself all I can think of is that episode of The Office where Jim and Pam discover Dwight's Second Life character. He's exactly the same as he is in meatspace, except he can fly.

He doesn't know how to because he whizzed past the tutorial, and he'll never replay the tutorial. He'll just assume that "the game never taught him" how to do it.
I'm almost positive he's been contact swinging, because when I briefly tuned in he was playing the batting cage minigame and not using X (normal swing). He's not using O (power swing) because he's hitting grounders instead of pop flys (a poorly hit power swing pops the ball up).

So this dumbass by process of elimination is using the contact swing, DESIGNED for singles, that uses his contact stat, which is super low, because he designed a power hitter, who has all his points in power hits, which use the power stat ('normal' swing essentially averages the two).

I've been going back and forth between channels, but I'm certain at one point I heard him say that he was alternating triangle, circle, and X "to mix it up".

DSP got his back injury from nothing apparently, out of the blue the discs in his back herniated and he could barely function.
