Inactive Andrew Dobson / Tom Preston / CattyN - STOP DOING SEXIST CRAP

Lemme guess, he's conflating the Alt-Right with Conservatives, which are not at all the same thing (maybe there's some overlap, but it's venn diagram overlap not complete and utter overlap).

the vidja in question:
LOL that video, cow crossover with Steve Shives, as he is the one playing "your conservative friend". Strawman city. Conflating equality of opportunity with equality of outcome, figures the video maker is buddies with habitual strawmanner Shives. Figures they'd label the video "Alt Right Playbook" and then talk about "conservatives" and thus muddy the waters by conflating the two. If this is the kind of garbage Dobson listens to on the regular, no wonder he's so misinformed.

LOL! There's no way that elf is 5mm tall. You'd need an electron microscope to take the photograph, not to mention the 3D printer would have to be capable of manipulating material at the nano level. This idiot can't measure, or he doesn't know a cm from a mm.

Lord, Dobson's so ashamed to be American he's trying to use metric, and even failing at that.

I don't care how dumb you are. If you've got any experience with miniatures you have a good gut feel for how big a 25mm mini is.

I've heard of 10mm minis, but nothing smaller than that. Been a while though.

Of course it's easy to type 5mm when you meant 50mm, but I doubt Dobson deserves the benefit of a doubt.

I’d go with @Laoshi’s speculation that he meant to say “5 centimeters” but either mixed it up with millimeters or his fat finger hit the M key twice.

Mainly because it makes more sense to me that he measured this mini with a cheap Office Depot ruler right before answering compared to knowing the height off the top of his head.

It's been a while since I've painted a mini, but I don't believe anyone in the hobby would talk about a "5cm" miniature, pretty much for the same reason you never hear about 0.9cm pistol ammunition. Everyone uses millimeters.

Fun factoid: the English translation of Das Boot armed a German sub with a fearsome 8.8mm cannon.

True but this is Dobson we’re talking about, the guy who railed about his hatred of tabletops up until last Wednesday when all his woke Tumblr senpais started talking about it. You can’t expect him to put in the effort to get the common terminology of a hobby right.

Imagining Dobbo trying to play D&D or even CoC suddenly brings really funny mental images to my brain. Times like these I wish I could make small animatics.

He’d probably be a nightmare to have to play with honestly if his tabletop etiquette is anything like how he is with video games. Would probably be constantly misread rules for spells and attacks (if he reads them at all) and whine when it’s pointed out to him, make a character who’s either a total Gary Stu or a complete deadweight because he couldn’t figure out the stat management, and constantly act like he’s being singled out for his errors and in combat encounters even when it’s clear most of his issues are being caused by him.

On top of that, while no one is an absolutely perfect player/DM and clashes in play styles will happen, the thing that can make some of the above like forgetting rules or accidentally fudged numbers forgiveable to keep campaigns enjoyable is having a good sense of humor about yourself and listen when being politely corrected. Which are the two things that Dobson are incapable of doing, and therefore terrible to play with.

Oh, I can totally see Dobbo rage quitting the moment people make fun of his Gary Stu character. Like the moment he introduce himself and try's to be all bad ass, someones character would crack a joke about his guys name (knowing Dobbo he'd pick a name you'd see in Stevens Seagals characters name library) and then Dobbo would instantly flip his shit.

I used to game with a guy that was, I'm pretty sure, a fairly accurate representation of how Dobson would be as part of a tabletop group. He had a very major case of "main character syndrome" where he wanted his character to be able to do everything and be the best. If he saw someone doing something he'd try to do it too, and when told his character didn't have the relevant skills/abilities, he'd try to weasel some way into saying they could, or complain about why one of the skills or abilities he had couldn't do that (and, he often implied or even outright stated, do it better). Then, if the GM put their foot down and wouldn't let him do it, at the next opportunity he'd start trying to take the ability to do it, even if it wasn't something that came up very often. He also ripped off character concepts from other players when we were discussing starting new games, and would then complain when told he was stepping on people's toes or that he had a completely misguided idea of what the class was even supposed to do.

One player wanted to play a Magus. He decided he must also be a Magus. He described his concept of a Magus, which someone else pointed out really fit better as a Monk. He almost had a full-blown tantrum because he HAD to be a Magus and why couldn't the other player change what they were instead? And that was how he made his departure from our group, because we'd treated him "unfairly" by not letting him steal the class role from another character and do things he couldn't have done with the ruleset anyway.

He then ragequit his other gaming group because someone else claimed the mini he always used for his characters and this time he did in fact literally throw a tantrum, flipped the table, and stormed out.

I think he'd show up and do fuck all. He'd sit and be quiet and refuse to interact. Nigga would play Kora and be that absolute ass 4 elements monk then brag on Facebook about how it's actually really good and he carried the party. Eventually someone would say the wrong thing and he'd do some dumb shit like attack the dudes character, which would either end in awkward silence or (hopefully) the gm giving the thumbs up to PvP and him getting his shit shoved in.

If he actually enjoys himself or is spiteful enough get ready for a single lame ass comic about it.

It would be pretty fun to play some ubermench cis white male along side him though.

Keep in mind Dobson also claims to abhor violence (despite his actions frequently showing the opposite) and, in video games at least, tends to favor the most basic characters/weapons that require no direct confrontation or effort.

With that in mind my guess is that he’d likely stick to supporting roles (supporting as in function, not that he wouldn’t be plagued with main character syndrome) that can keep their distance in the form spell casters and the like, but then immediately get tripped up by the spell slot systems and balancing his stats, and any time the GM tries to rope him into the action during encounters he’ll passive aggressively complain to no end.

And then when that fails be a basic bitch human fighter because that’s the easiest character in the world.

Perhaps a Cleric, except playing it more like a JRPG Cleric where they're specifically for healing and support, rather than having the tanking and offensive spell capabilities like in D&D. This would make even casual players stare daggers at him since Clerics are pretty damn powerful offensively (Not sure where they are in Tier rankings for 5E but back in 3.5E...whew lad.)

He'd probably sit at the back of the party casting buffs in between slinging a few stones then rolling his eyes and groaning when someone needs healing.

EDIT: I also strike him as the kind of guy who throws a fit when the group orders from a place he doesn't want to eat from, refuses to chip in, and then bothers people for food after it arrives.

He'd be a healslut no ifs ands or buts.

I've personally never played a 5e Cleric, I've had party members play some and from what I've seen and been told they're functionally a more versatile 5e Paladin, and whew in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing they have some nasty spell/attack combos in their arsenal.

Although if Dobson did pick Cleric, he'd probably pick something basic like Life Domain such as you said, though I can't see him being very good at being support either. I'm willing to be he'd be constantly be mis-reading or neglecting to read the descriptions of his spells, and thus blow a bunch of spell slots on ineffective buffs like trying to cast something with a ranged radius that no one is within range of or give someone Barkskin when their armor class is 18.
