The Chandlers have been taken to court for debt so many times, I'm starting a megathread for it.
Edit to add summary: Chris and Barb's debts are distinct.
Chris's debt generally stems from unsecured credit card debt that is later sold to collection agencies who initiate court filings to try to get him to pay up. However, the system works out in his favor as he has no assets (the house is in Barb's name) and no source of income that can be garnished (his SSDI tugboat payments are exempt from garnishment, and when he gets money from fans and enablers, it either goes through Paypal or is spent too fast for the court to note). So there is no real incentive for Chris to pay up, and he has likely been ignoring the debt, as shown by two creditors attempting (but failing) to garnish his bank account.
Barb's debt is more of a problem for them as she has the house in her name as an asset which could theoretically be seized if payments stop. She has maintained payments after being sued by two banks in 2016 - her debt cases have not been elevated to garnishment proceedings.
