What is your ideal living situation

When I feel blackpilled about the future:
A isolated cabin in the woods/mountains, lots of land and little to no nearby human presence, where I can larp as a mountain man/Uncle Ted (the part about not liking the modern world, not the bombs) hybrid. Here, I will have dogs, guns, grow food and weed/make moonshine, and listen to music, play guitar, and optimistically have the internet to shitpost and laugh as the world burns.

When I feel whitepilled about the future:
A comfy semi-rural home with good amount of land and woods, where a wifey and I can live and raise kids. Not so far as to be hours away from civilization, but a good distance from neighbors and what not for privacy and comfort. Enough land to again grow a garden, woods to walk and commune with nature, space for kids and dogs and maybe a cat or two. Space for a workshop and/or music practice space. Work from home or commute as necessary.

Either way, I also think a beach house or living in a lighthouse would be awesome. Go outside and breathe the fresh ocean air, swim, learn to fish and sail and surf, watch the sun set over the water.

What are you trying to say
The author of the MHE narrative has the same outlook on a lot of things that you do, and wrote an awesome scifi story the likes of which will blow your mind across the course of a whole shitload of reddit comments in various unrelated subreddits.
They've been compiled in that link I gave you. It's some of the best scifi I've read since.... Well, the last thing that stuck with me this hard was probably something from lovecraft or william gibson.
It's a story that discusses the topics you're pondering (not in your OP but elsewhere) via scifi & body horror.

  • Rural, but no more than 30 minutes from a walmart, or equivalent store.

Yeah, I've had pretty much the same idea but maybe not quite that rural. I'm thinking of a small population centre in the 5 to 10 thousand range that's nevertheless the commercial hub for a wide surrounding area. Kenora, Ontario, in the extreme west of the province not that far from the "Northwest Angle" of Minnesota is one place that has captured my imagination but the drawback is that it's too small for a Cineplex so I'd have to drive to either Thunder Bay or the outskirts of Winnipeg if I'd want to see movies too niche to play at their local three-screen venue.

Since it's an area full of small lakes, though, the mosquitoes might be unbearable in summer.

Houseboat/cabin cruiser in the gulf of mexico. It would be way more fun than I deserve to just fuck around moving from coastal town to coastal town dodging tropical storms and doing the equatorial equivalent of snowbirding on a boat. Meet new people, laugh at them, the sea is my only true love.

  • A rural Tudor style cottage that isn’t too far away from civilization (30 minutes or less away from a city/town)
  • Lots of land to grow fresh vegetables and herbs
  • An outdoor shower/bathtub
  • A large kitchen so I can cook a lot
  • An art/music room
  • A window seat near the front entrance for scenic reading
  • Decor inside the home would evoke German folk style
  • Trails nearby for hiking
  • A walk in closet and full length mirror for the master bedroom
  • A separate guest house that includes a little pool
  • A parlor room with tables for playing card and board games
  • An outdoor fire pit with seating around it
  • A small home gym
  • A sex dungeon because I’m horny
  • Nothing ever breaks down or needs replacing
  • There are no pests to worry about (only weeds in the garden)
  • There’s always enough rainfall for the plants to grow well
  • Wildflowers grow everywhere around the house
This is a fantasy world, so I may as well make it as nice as possible

~2000 sq ft A-frame home, minimum 100 acre land
Decent cable internet
Large in-wall bookshelves in a single room with shag carpet
Firepit next to manmade pond/lake
Gun safe full of dubious weaponry primarily used for killing hogs
Basement arcade (primarily one computer-based arcade cabinet with emulators and several pinball machines. Pool table to the side.)
Pipedream Extreme Fuck Me Silly 2 Mega Masturbator

Honestly,

I just want a house I can call my own, not paying rent to some guy like he's some feudal Lord. I'd also like to have my own workshop and garden where I can grow my own food/herbs and work on cars, computers and paint miniatures/canvas.

Also a Rec room with a Pool table, pinball/arcade machines, a Home theater and a Pool. But those last 3 things are just a pipedream unless I win the lottery or something.

Oh, and a bitchin' home network with a media server. Australian Internet is garbage.

Basically this:
715945
  • In the mountains, surrounded by forests teeming with wildlife
  • No development around, just my home and the single road to reach it
  • Snows in winter, but summer is warm enough to swim in the nearby lakes and rivers
  • House is centered around the fireplace
  • Rooms for a library, theatre, sun room, sauna and games room
  • I work in an office that overlooks the forest
  • Just my partner, my dogs and I, but plenty of space for friends and family to visit
  • Maybe some horses too
  • A radio tower so I never have to worry about cell reception or internet problems
  • Solar panels and batteries keep us as far off the grid as possible and my Tesla charged
  • A small town about 30 minutes away provides all the supplies we need
  • Only need to travel once every two or three weeks, but can if I want to
The pic says Idaho but I'd rather live in Switzerland

Ideally I'd like to live somewhere I didn't have to see people unless I wanted to, where I still was close enough to 'society' to get what I want same-day by going out to get it, but far enough out that I could shoot guns in my back yard without bothering anyone, because there's no one around to bother or tell me I can't.

I guess I'd basically like to live about a half hour outside of Pittsburgh in most directions. I really regret buying a house 'in' (It's more like the inner edge of suburbia but still a Pittsburgh neighborhood) the city sometimes, but it was a fantastic cash deal and we've spent less in ten years here than we would have renting even at the $400/mo rent we used to pay.

my ideal living situation is to live and study in an arcology, similar to Arcosanti, preferably with an emphasis on combining architecture and farming, agriculture, horticulture, botany, and self-sustainability.

You can have Arcosanti. I'll take this instead.
