There are a few good game journalists. Frank Cifaldi and Kurt Kalata come to mind.

Kurt did sperge out that fateful November in 2016 and posted all the articles on HG101 at once because he was too upset to do any work for awhile (not that it was the worse thing to happen from Trump being elected).

Plus he seems to really try to come off as hip, like his sudden 180 from hating Dragon Quest to loving it in an effort to make a competing series overview to SocksMakePeopleSexy's Final Fantasy retrospective.

HG101 tangent, but it would be nice if the people who wrote articles seemed like they knew about whatever series they're talking about beyond a wikipedia-glanced surface level. My autism with certain series makes me cringe when I'm familiar with whatever they cover (Guilty Gear and SMT before that blew up with Persona 4 in particular).

HG101 started getting a bit weird when they started doing user submissions since there's a rule that articles need to cover every game in the series. Combine that with large series with fractured playerbases like SMT or Megaman and you wind up with ten pages for whatever the author's favored game is and a cliffnotes summary of all the others.

Sucks to learn that Kurt has TDS though. Twitter is the mind-killer. I wouldn't be surprised if that election hiatus lines up with the site beginning to take user-submitted articles.

When a designer is dealing with UI/UX accessibility is a huge consideration. If you're trying to address a large audience you're going to have people with issues like color blindness or deafness and should try to design accordingly.

Not sure about the gaming industry, but I'm sure the game designers are aware of this and do their best to accommodate. There's only so much you can do until you start breaking the product to handle edge cases.

I think truly disabled people know that they're living life on hard mode and recognize that there's just some things they won't be able to do. I can't imagine an actual debilitated individual becoming despondent over a video game they can't play.

The gaming industry (doubly so for UI/UX) is very accommodating for disabilities. It's usually very subdued but most games have multiple visual and audio cues for actions that a character can take. Most games use colors for visual cues but will usually add a second layer (like a circle that fills up) for colorblind players. Microsoft went a step further last year and released the "Xbox Adaptive Controller" a fully configurable controller station designed explicitly for people with disabilities to be able to setup however it was comfortable for them to use.

Sekiro (the game people are bitching about) has really subtle but varied indicators on everything that is important in the game. All "extremely dangerous" attacks from enemies are accompanied by two visual cues (the enemies specific animation plus a large "Warning Symbol" that pops up) and an audio cue (a horiffic, dramatic, violin noise). Your ability to deflect is fed back through both visual and audio cues (Normal blocking generates a small spark and soft noise, deflections generate a large spark and decent noise, and a "perfect" deflection generates a huge spark and really loud noise). And so on. I'm not a Sekiro expert but I would expect the game could be played and beaten by people with nearly any disability (not blindness, though).

RedMercury and boredJonathan update

I set my autism loose following both accounts and boredJonathan has only posted once. That account is sometimes online at similar times as RedMercuy but... data is inconclusive. With how little boredJonathan posts it's hard to find trends. Only like 160 posts right now since Resetera launched. If both were frequently posting at the same time or within seconds, it would be less likely there is a link.

Getting to the bottom of why an account named RedMercury was renamed to boredJonathan on NeoGAF and then a new account called RedMercury appears on GAF will be concluded. I will do my duty.

Just so you know, RedMercury is also disabled. Convenient timing with the exceptional craziness tearing up the games industry as we speak with everything needing Journalist Mode... because disabled people.
