Unpopular Opinions About Western Animation

I stopped watching CN by the time Uncle Grandpa started airing but I probably had the same feelings as you towards The Problem Solverz and Secret Mountain Fort Awesome in the final year I watched that channel. I actually thought the latter was one of the best shows I'd ever seen

I understand Secret Mountain Fort Awesome (sounds like something I'll try out from my research), but why Problem Solverz?

I enjoy ALL 3 examples much more than that of Star Vs., to put it lightly. Which is a shame, since I wanted to like Star Vs., too - there's just too much crap holding it back for me, no matter how much people love to lick it's boots and whatnot.
I think Star vs’ problem is that it never felt like it has any idea what direction it wants to take the show. From what I understand Nefcy originally wanted the show to be much smaller in scale (the original pitch apparently being that Star was basically an autist with an overactive imagination, no real magic whatsoever) but the network wanted another Gravity Falls, and as the show’s progressed and they’ve jumped from conflict/antagonist to conflict/antagonist it’s really started to show the flaws.

Also because they’ve been trying to pull a “nobody is the bad guy” in this last season, they’ve been left in a precarious position where they’re getting to the halfway point and still have no central goal or conflict, not without doing something ballsier than what they or Disney is willing to go.

I’d like some clarification on this, if you wouldn’t mind.

Dragon Prince has some big problems but I’m enjoying it so far, at least, much more than I enjoyed Korra.

Gotta say that the backstory plot line with the King and the famine in season 2 was pretty stupid though. Did the King really think that starving his own kingdom to help another wasn’t going to inevitably end with him being killed by a mob of angry subjects? He literally was going to forcefully take half of his nation’s food to give to another country and this was portrayed a noble action. Bitch, it’s easy for you not to worry about starving, but when your people start losing their kids because of your “generosity” you’re gonna be dealing with a collapsing kingdom.

I guess a kids show not being well versed in any kind of logical politics is to be expected though lmao

I have problems with Dragon Prince but I still enjoyed it.

I honestly think that the show is smarter than that.

I read those situations as morally ambiguous and while we are supposed to see the Kings actions as morally right on first viewing it feels like they are setting the narrative up to subvert that altogether.

Predictions:

Viren will be shown to be far more sympathetic as essentially the only one making the hard decisions his King wouldn’t.

And he was right about the impending invasion.

Dark magic will be revealed to be neutral. Neither good nor bad but a practice that requires heavy considerations before deploying.

Aavaros will be a trickster figure who gave humans the ability to deploy dark magic because they had no other defense against racist ass Elves.

The Elves will revealed to have pushed humanity to desire magic of their own in order to stand shoulder to shoulder with them/ write their own destiny.

I feel as if the show was still setting up a significant chunk of its own premise and it is too early to tell if it is get woke get broke shit.

I definitely hope so, that would be pretty interesting.

I never thought that was an unpopular opinion
If we are going for something unpopular, Phineas and his crew are really bland and uninteresting characters and I actually think that Candance is a funnier and better character. Also, the difference of quality between Perry's subplots and the main story is really big: Doofenchrmirtz is such a good and hilarious villain that you don't give a fuck about Phineas's bland inventions.

Phineas and Ferb's relatively good writting can sometimes hide his repetitive and formuleic structure.

I like to thank the Perry and Doofenschmirtz antics for being the thing that elevates said show the most. Otherwise, I ain't a fan of P&F, sadly. Candace was just too annoying/unlikable for me; Phineas and Ferb were alright, though - at least they were creative, if not productive with whatever it was they were doing for fun.
Too bad as MCs, they are both pretty damn forgettable, as well. Seriously, Perry and Doof are the only true reason I'll ever revisit P&F as a show. Ever.

The creators of the show have straight-up admitted that they know that the only reason why so many people watched the show was because of Doof and Perry's antics.

I see people complain about Scooby Doo being formulaic whilst praising Phineas and Ferb a lot.

As far as whether they are interesting as characters or not, Ferb was because he barely spoke and if he did it was very eloquent. But that's it.
