And I'll clarify that Tokyopop wasn't the publisher of Megatokyo when they got big. I'll try to make it short, but I'll start with the name of their first publisher: Studio Ironcat.

Megatokyo started to become utter shit before they were even published. It happened when Rodney Caston left. Which was right before Ironcat picked them up. When it was a webcomic, I found it funny and joked with coworkers about it (I still remember "Does anybody speak l33t?!")

This is what happens when soyboy weebs wrestle creative control of shit, and the MC is a mary sue.

Naturally, Bamboo "I hate Vic" Dingdong loved it.

Then as they made utter asses out of themselves convincing themselves and their toe slaves that Lord Beard and Inquisitor Rikeda were utterly full of shit, they get a very sudden slap into reality, leaving nothing but chaos and a massive spergout.

A spergout in which things may be said that might otherwise be kept under wraps...thus hanging themselves just a little more.

Shame once again fails to realize that it is his public ravings that are increasing the allowable length and breadth of the fishing expedition. I mean the best possible outcome for Shame here is everyone dismisses him out of hand. The worst is they actually take his statements seriously and investigate them. Because that brings oh so much fun stuff into discovery. Like Shame's entire web of contacts.

Shame really wants to be involved in the case. That's the only way this makes sense to me

Related to that, Tokyopop continued the 90s anime market notion of buying anything and everything thinking it all sold either way, than turning their efforts on selling the hottest and best thing in Japan, and also tried to start up an Original English Language Manga production program that licensed any creators inspired to make their own manga.

Even for a 90s styled anime fan like me, times change and business requires adapation and recognizing trends and current events. Tokyopop did not adapt to the next needed step as the US anime and manga market eventually caught up with the hottest thing in Japan, and killed that with a glut of unfocused marketing and loose spending. Secondly, their OEL Manga partnership program was horrendously flawed, with one sided contracts, a massive pay dividend, and with all and any properties of authors to be under the ownership of Tokyopop. Tokyopop also had very poor PR and advertising their OEL line, and as I heard, Tokyopop was very loose on the QA and talent screening. So right when they were forced to throw up their hands into bankruptcy, every author was denied the rights to their titles. So if you ever hear the phrase "Fuck Stu Levy", someone's speaking the truth. Also Fuck Stu Levy.

As for Megatokyo.... wow.

You thought Marvel and DC was eating the dirt hard by the time 1996 came? Studio Ironcat could had been the States' first successful hybrid importer and authoring publisher of manga in the States, but they immediately fucked up by 1999. By that year, Ironcat was beginning to become rife with embezzlement, in house authors and co workers were divided into high school drama bullshit cliques, and many authors were soon beginning to not get paid. On two conflicting accounts, rep Brian said Fred was claimed to have demanded more money for the license, while the other says many who preordered for Volume 1 did not get their copies, and they were still pushing for Volume 2 preorders despite shortchanging their customers. Either way, Fred left for Dark Horse after this, and the rest of his series is tumultous history.

And fuck me, either it's my lack of sleep or me coming further and further to the truth, because I'm getting more and more depressed about all of the shortcomings of the US manga and anime creative industry as I learn more and more about it.

The only thing I remember ever seeing that StudioIroncat published was some utterly horrid Ranma 1/2 ripoff trannyporn shit. I can't remember the name of it, but everything about it was just fucking awful.

I just cannot see how a woman, who is not as exceptional as he is, liking the idea of potentially being sued and putting the family through such a hardship, especially for some VA thot that has a pronoun of xer it seems. I think there is a very good chance that like Jim Jones followers, they are fully lockstep with the narrative and are/will be without representation.

Consider that they are indoctrinated in the concept of 'personal truth.' That truth says there is no lawsuit coming. And when faced with reality, they will fall back to the teachings and not recognize the legal requirements a suit places on them. Because Trump is President and thus they are not bound by the law. Or so many on the radical left regularly claim.

Yes, I do think at least some will be saying that as they are thrown in the back of a squad car. They are above the law in "Trump's America," afterall.

A really important thing that not many people understand:

Not all accredited and valid reports result in bans. Just flags and marks on your account, which can trigger various shadowban procedures.

In other words: All bans resulted from reports, but not all reports result in bans (except in severe cases, where applicable.)

So when they do this, they're asserting something they don't know as a fact, but just hope will result in them nosediving until it becomes a ban they instigated enforcement from Twitter for.
