I've been continuously hinting that too but I had no basis for it other than that they are a traditional and conservative Japanese company and basically, how the fuck do they get wind of this bullshit and NOT completely flip out?

I want to caution everyone about getting too optimistic and enthusiastic about Toei getting involved. Yes they are a Japanese Company and likely conservative and don't like this sort of shit. But most of the Vic/Con/#MeToo stuff they would likely characterize as "stupid and incomprehensible Americans" And just avoid getting involved, unless Vic has a friend in Toei (which he might) or Funi was already really pissing them off for other reasons (which could be). Now the Sabat thing is something that would piss them off. They would not be happy about some third party contractor using their IP's for their $500/head special event marketing. Toei is merciless about that sort of thing. If they don't have a piece of it, it don't happen. Now this might be a case where Funimation conditionally gave permission as a sunblicensor, and Toei issued a Veto. Just a reminder from something that was linked a ways back, from Toei Animation;

Toei is incredibly restrictive regarding their licensing. They are probably all in with Kamehacon itself. They like that sort of thing. They may not have minded the Sabat tour thing, until they discovered somebody was skimming $500/head using their IP. That's the kind of thing they might frown on. Of the Japanese Media companies the only one that might be even more restrictive and draconian regarding licensing than Toei is Toho (The Godzilla people).

I agree with this in general, but let's look at this. That Toei is just pissed about their restrictive licensing, that they're notorious for, is still absolutely fucked for Sabat. That's the absolute BEST CASE scenario for the bad guys.

All these idiots had to do was not breach their contracts. But they did THIS instead.

And even in the absolute best case scenario for them, they're seriously fucked. They just got butt fucked in public. And that's the best case scenario. If it isn't the best case scenario, they're even more deeply fucked.

even if they were unaware, there is no way they won't hear now. and remember.
