Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

D&D nearly didn't survive Lorraine Williams, and I agree on just sitting and waiting, but the thing that I worry about is that enough people get pushed away for the industry to collapse. It's a little doom and gloom, I know, but comics would be much worse off if Marvel didn't have the movies to keep them propped up.

"When the world rots, we set it afire... For the sake of the next world. It's the one thing we do right, unlike those fools on the outside."

Anyone else really bothered at the prospect of there being massive collateral damage in this fiasco?

Nope. It's Dragonball. They can sell that license to just about anybody. Easily. Viz or Sentai will happily buy it.

I'm more concerned whether they realize Monica, Sean, and Chris need to go. Because these assholes frequently work for different studios. I don't think the DB fandom wants this baggage following them around for all eternity.

I feel marginally sorry for Kameha, but... I mean... they did violate their contract with Vic, and that set off shit-storm that could have been seen from orbit.

If Totally-not-Ren says that it was because Toei didn't want Ryo to be sexually harassed by Vic I'm fucking done.

Well, now she's gonna. The whale reads her own thread.

If toei is wrecking kamehacon over this and funimation as a company goes down because they refuse to do anything but burn with these exceptional individuals, I can't really see that being anything but a Pyrrhic victory.

(Even if you don't hate subs as much as I do, if a lot less money comes from the west into the anime industry and it's harder to gain new fans, that'll affect subs too. Loads of manga and light novels are never translated precisely because they aren't as big and popular as anime)
It sucks for KamehaCon since they're just trying to do business, but this is what happens when people play stupid games. Now they get to enjoy their stupid prizes.

god what a glorious shitshow. lets take stock of the current situation.

  1. mean girls clique outed vic from funi and rooster teeth
  2. vic hired lawyer to fight back and has him on a leash
  3. funi is basically radio silent on everything except that they investigated, let go of vic, and do not condone harrassment.
  4. kamehacon invited vic despite rumors because contract
  5. monica and her fuck buddies cancelled their appearances
  6. sabat cancelled the studio tour for some reason (yeah, no, not the one he stated. he's given none of us any reason to believe he's that stupid).
  7. rumor has it Toei has heard about the ongoings.
  8. The japanese voice of vegeta who is still working is going.
  9. kiwifarms is autistically putting literally everything plus the kitchen sink under scrutiny like a nazi looking for jews
  10. april 15th is the day the suit will be filed. its also tax day.
there are where we stand. what a list eh? the thing that stands out is this: why is only the voice of vegeta going if he's going not as an envoy/spy of toei? its possible he isn't, sure. but Toei does have stake in this and a fairly sizable one. most try to say that americans don't matter to most japanese companies and that is true. until we start making them millions, which we do with dragonball. now rial and her butt brigade are threatening those millions dipping. Further, we know Toei has a reputation of watching its brand in america, which means they know about this for sure.

of course this is all speculation, beyond the list. with tax day coming, it sure would be a shame if Toei decided to give an ultimatum to funi and force them to either drop sabat and his clique or lose the dragonball license. basically making them pick their poison.

Licensing for Dragonball and other Toei properties is handled by Bandai.

I just snooze a bit and Rial got IP-pee'd and Toei flexing. Do things happen when I take a nap? I thought the world just stops.
Literally same, man.

And I can't help but wonder how Toei feels about their English Bulma VA setting up an unofficial autograph signing at a random comic store, making money selling signed headshots of herself next to an image of Bulma.

Jesus Christ. I was thinking that the worst we would see were lawsuits filed Monday. Was not expecting Toei to essentially Omae Wa Mou Shindeiru Kamehacon/Funi. I thought a slightly drunk Nick was just speculating last night to keep us entertained. But holy fuck. I have to stop doubting Drexelface Lawyer. He's a damned lawyer. Of course he'll talk in hypotheticals unless he has something notarized and triple checked for sources.

On the flipside, Kamehacon got him back with no hard feelings. It was the 6+ Funi VAs who are in breach now.

Bandai. Ooooh man Bandai. Bandai is very hands on. They are building themselves up as a global brand right now and is currently reorganizing their brands. You think small details are overlooked by them but they only overlook if it self-corrects usually with the help of the fandom.

No, it's not.

Bandai just has a toy license.

The contract agreement for the anime is between Funimation and Toei Animation LTD.

https://www.funimation.com/blog/201...nnounce-new-dragon-ball-licensing-agreements/

Huh. Learned something new. But Bandai's license isn't just for toys, it's everything other than the animation itself. Used to play the Dragon Ball Z card game. When Bandai decided to make a game for Super, they yanked the license so they didn't have to compete.

Those licensing agreements are also VERY specific. If you want to make a Dragon Ball Z board game, you'll get a license for a strictly Dragon Ball Z board game. No references/artwork from Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball GT, or Dragon Ball Super.

So for any Dragon Ball video games released by Bandai Namco featuring Broly in the future, Broly would still be voiced by Vic?
most likely. Toei ultimately controls the brand and their word is law for it. Bandai could bitch and moan but at the end of the day, it'd have to ensure vic gets the voice if Toei wanted it, and based on the recent debacle it looks like that's still true.

If this really ends up being the last Kamehacon, I hope that every fan knows whos fault it is. Those snakes couldn't just suck it up and go to the con, they had to attract the wrath of angry Japanese business men wielding swords made of glorious Nippon steel folded over 1 thousand times.

I dont know if it actually will. I mean in the release stated maybe 2020. Sooo
