Dunno. Not sure if things are different for Ryo since he's a foreign national, but I know dub VAs fly in and out on the first/last days of their cons if they're out of state. I could see Ryo coming in early Friday and leaving late Sunday or early Monday.
Toei made a good choice. They saved Ryo a lot of stress.
You're looking at a 12+ hour flight from Nippon to Texas, not to mention the fucked up time zone difference. I know I wouldn't be wanting to dive right into fan interactions after all that at the age of 61. Then again Ryo is an absolute baller whose supposedly a very lively dude at cons and loves a good drink.

That's what I'm trying to figure out, I was thinking he would already be in the air at the time Kamehacon announced he wasn't coming. If he was sick surely they'd have had a heads up well before this. But then again Kamehacon's customer service interactions look like a mess with people getting different responses when they pm them on facebook or the almost 2 hour wait between some one messaging them about getting a notice of the studio tour being cancelled and the con getting back to them to confirm it's cancelled.
like I mentioned, there's tons of unlicensed doujin floating around japan being sold at cons and most companies, Toei included, do nothing. of course, there is a difference between japan and america, but fact is Toei is at worst tolerant of unlicensed undeserved merch sales.

But that's the thing, regardless of the quality and content of those doujins, they are entirely original material made entirely by whoever made them. They're not plagiarizing content, they're not using material made by Toriyama or Toei(like TFS), they're created entirely by fans and that makes a big difference when comes to Toei going after you.
Yeah I had a problem with that too, he wasn't clear. All he said was that Vic got booted because he took professionalism seriously
Considering we've seen how Vic is with fans on his weekly livestreams, I doubt Sabat is going to call him out for being too nice to them. Unless it was as case of "do not fratenize with the peasantry".
but that's such a small difference that no japanese company is going to do that. as autistic as toei with IP protection, the pattern does not fit the behavior as you describe it. if it is, then that means Toeis management is no better than Funi and worse because of the autism regarding IP protection.
