BURIEN, Wash. - From his home at the All-Merciful Saviour Monastery on Vashon Island, Abbot Tryphon told KIRO 7 about how he was suddenly attacked Tuesday morning while gassing up at the Mobil Station on Southwest 148th Street in Burien.

“I have never been hit as hard,” the Russian Orthodox priest said Wednesday. The at-large suspect “zeroed in on my cross, because when he started coming my direction, he had this look of anger.”

The leader of the Vashon monks said the man who struck him first asked, “How’s Trump?” When Abbot Tryphon answered, “I have no idea, that’s when he hit me.”

On Wednesday afternoon, the King County Sheriff’s Office released surveillance video recorded at the gas station, hoping that someone will help identify the man.

In the video, it is difficult to see what happened on the other side of the priest’s van. However, multiple people witnessed the assault and called 911, according to Sgt. Ryan Abbott.

The King Co Sheriff’s Office just gave me these images of the man suspected of assaulting a Priest at a Burien gas station. @KIRO7Seattle

“You can see him swing and the priest went down to the ground,” Abbott said. “He was wearing all of his priest gear, including a cross.”

One day later, Abbot Tryphon still has ringing in his ears and some hearing loss. He believes that for some reason, the cross on his chest angered the man. “When the man saw the cross, he went insane.

He got this insane look and that’s when he punched me.” When asked by KIRO 7 whether religion might have been a motive, Abbot Tryphon said, “I think it was the whole attire.

I think he saw me as a conservative Christian, which I am, and I think he, for whatever reason, whether it’s political or psychological in nature, the man reacted.”

Abbot Tryphon added, “I’m not a political person. People don’t know my political persuasion or how I vote.”

If identified, the suspect could be charged with felony assault.

The priest told KIRO 7 he would like to see the man arrested, but for a different reason than facing justice. “I want to go to the jail and I want to sit in the cell with him, alone, and I want to tell him that I forgive him, that I love him and that God loves him. That’s what I want to do.”

If you recognize the suspect, contact the King County Sheriff’s Office.

Have you ever noticed that the people with TDS really like to prey on the old and weak?
It's almost as if those people are so physically weak they would get obliterated in a fair fight with the average person so they have to beat up people who can't defend themselves. That way there's no risk of injury on their end and they can still brag to their friends they punched a "Nazi".

There's video of the incident and the victim got hit hard enough he has suffered hearing loss.
The assailant would make a good candidate for the death penalty as far as I'm concerned, nothing makes me angrier then seeing the young pray on the old because they know the old can't fight back as well. Still, I hope they do find him and at the very least throw that felony assault charge at him so he will be away behind bars for a few decades.

Wow. Stop pretending to be Jesus. The guy did something awful and needs to be locked up as an example. By all means don't carry the anger around with you forever, but openly forgiving someone before they've expressed the slightest contrition is a recipe for disaster.

How long until Christians are actively and openly persecuted in America by extreme left-wingers over supposed political opinions?
Well their own bible speaks of a “tribulation” time that affects a great many people, mostly Christian but some non-Christians as well.

But some guy getting punched out at a gas station for a POLITICAL belief is quite different.

Forget shaolin monks, how about a monk that conceal-carries?

he is an Orthodox priest, watch him pray and forgive his attacker to have all charges dropped. A CCW would not do shit.

Plus lead pill would be too fast of a treatment. Shirtbird needs the full Bruce Lee treatment with all broken extremities, then a finishing move. I guess that's not really a self-defense, more like a clean-up of a nature's mistake.

well, that's the point, he doesn't want to pretend, being like Jesus would be the highest form of compliment that a true Christian can receive.

Christians are called to follow the example of Christ- to act like Jesus and forgive and love those who persecute you, even while they persecute you, is rather the point. Especially if you're a monk, who has chosen to distance himself from the mundane world to pursue even greater closeness to God. Remember: "When your brother strikes your cheek, do not raise a hand against him, but turn and offer him the other cheek also. When your brother demands your cloak, do not withhold it from him, but give him your shirt also."

Aren't Hispanic and black populations predominantly Christian, to a fervousous degree even?? I think maybe the left's hate for religious people might backfire on thrm and lose them their base if they continue at the rate they're going. Brownish fellows seem to down with cheering for death to white people, but will they accept the calls for death to God and Jesus that go hand in hand with the crusades against whiteness?

Or maybe the left's base are so irrational and brainwashed that they'll act against their own best interests to stick it to the imaginary white evil they've invented?
