Why, WHY is he doing this to himself? I'm not even asking in a "just give up, Quinton" way. I'm asking because he clearly hates it and the reactions he gets, but his channel doesn't have a lot of value in the zeitgeist. Like I can understand someone like Defranco, ContraPoints, Peterson, Shapiro, etc., someone with a political angle who reaches a large audience. But Quinton "reviews" Transformers and Logan Paul movies. He reviews Garfield and Fairly Oddparents. Those things are so useless in the grand scheme of things that it makes no sense to me why he would keep going unless he truly loves doing it. Seems so masochistic.

My guess would be money. I can't imagine him having the skills for a proper job that actually pays well (I could be wrong though). He does make a decent amount of views on pretty uncontroversial stuff so I'd imagine he does decently money-wise on them.

I could see that, but I still feel like picking up a retail job with upward mobility would be easier for him, unless he's just pretending to be more stressed than he is for pity points, of course.

And to some degree, I get it. I really do. Youtubers would want to get an in on that because their content is the kind of shit that thrives on the platform. We had Minecraft let's plays and commentary, but now video essays are the big thing doing well on the site. They have the right combination of analysis that results in an intellectual circlejerk, with both the creators and consumers of the videos patting each other on the back for being so damn smart for creating/watching this content, and rightthink that Google and youtube agree with and are more likely to promote. I don't think it's an SJW conspiracy that the youtube algos heavily promote their videos, but I can imagine youtube being more than happy that their content is promoted, versus how they'd feel about anti SJW talking heads being promoted.

Holy shit reading this thread gave me extreme flashbacks to the Fact Fiend incident I talked about a while back on the Youtube Autism thread. Basically the main host, with his employee sucking his dick, went on a huge rant throughout an entire ten minute video about how you have "a moral obligation to keep racists out of your audience." By racist he meant anyone Republican and anyone who makes edgy jokes.

About a week earlier he was making jokes about Asian people's names being different from his. The guy making these jokes is called Karl Smallwood, so not only a big bruh moment but the guy is shown to dislike when people make fun of his name instead of just changing it for his pen name.

I realised I've basically gotten the same experience of watching these type of guys whenever I discover them. Was really into their content because it was funny and that's it, then they get too big and think they can lecture people for not liking the "progressive" children's media they talk about before () stagnating in views because people leave their exceptional asses behind because the content stops being fun.

I was thinking of doing a thread on it because the writer has a seemingly long online history, including being big into Halo back in the 2000s. I'm guessing it's to cover up a sordid past. If anyone thinks that'd be interesting I'll do it.

Anyway back on topic, I don't know why this kind of stuff attracts spergs from both the lefty "intellectual" side and the whiny rightoid side. They fawn over media made for children as if they are works of political satire on par with The Godfather, when half the shit is very basic good vs. evil narratives.

That's really the folly of the modern content creator. If you're going to pander to the idiots on whatever side do that before establishing a brand. You'll get more views and subs if you Trojan Horse it, sure, but they're not going to stick around and you'll probably just end up with a worse reputation than if you started as an ideologue and built up a loyal brainlet audience of your fellow "pureminds" from the beginning.

TL;DR: If the content was never woke, don't make it woke. You're here to be a dancing monkey, talk about stupid shit and make a fool of yourself.

Is because he preys on his martyr status. Upon "woking up" Quinton has gone nosedive analytics wise so all he has left is keeping the people that remained and tried to appeal to the audiences of those he mimics. Reddit and Twitter love martyrdom (specially explicitly leftie martyrdom) so all he has to do is constantly remind both his viewers and himself how good of an ally he is, how he is still useful.

I mentioned that Quinton reminds me of a creature (wesen) from the tv show Grimm called lebensauger, the thing is a humanoid leech who despises itself so much it copies the appearance/behaviour of others. The entire story of Quintons career has been mimicry of what he likes/what is popular. Angry reviewer type to film critic to redpilled liberal to full unironic SJW. Qs viewership has never been the best but when he imitates he gets the best results, once his guest dies due to an agonizing fall into irrelevance he jumps into a new organism and starts over.

It really boils down to why video essays have lost a lot of what made them special on the first place. It's pretty much someone influencing how you see a topic and you are probably never going to challenge that opinion because you have something better to do, it doesn't help that most videos these days are about media that is so plain nobody would give it a second look.

Why making the thousandth video on The Godfather when you can analyze Opposite Day and its implications on the life expectations of the current generation? You will have search preference and you can always make a clickbait title that will guarantee you the first place and brownie points.

And most of these twats will hold this attitude of being serious scholars of communications and goofy-witty comedians, sometimes on the same video with no space for consistency. Its like baking the cake and eating it in front of someone. On Qs case he realized he wasn't funny so he copypasted what he found funny without realizing what made it good on the first place.

Though we do have a mental illness problem in America, unless you can barely do normal activities without being needlessly afraid and get jolts of terror from otherwise innocuous events then you no right to complain about your anxiety.
