Are these people really too stupid to understand that it's because the accusations effectively ended Vic's career that 1) the lawsuit is happening and 2) they're seeking a large amount of damages? The lawsuit doesn't make his career any more (or less) dead. It just ensures that he's compensated for its loss.

No. They're not too stupid to understand that. The goal all along has been to destroy Vic. Nothing else matters. Anything Vic does or doesn't do will be cited as a reason that nobody should work or associate with him. If he didn't fight back, they'd say it was evidence that he was guilty and should be destroyed. Now that he's fighting back, they'll say that he's bringing his own destruction on himself.
We saw the same thing with Kavanaugh. They accused him of rape, and then when he was frustrated by the false accusation and became indignant, they said that even if he wasn't guilty of rape, his anger demonstrated that he lacked the temperament to be a Supreme Court Justice.

I don't get why these guys are so fucking illiterate on the cases they're trying to cite. They keep bringing up Digital Homcide like it's in any way comparable here. Digital Homicide's suit featured them demanding excessive levels of compensation that they didn't have any reasonable way to justify and basically demanded Jim's channel get shut down. This is a completely different situation, with a completely different set of circumstances.

Technically, Digital Homicide didn't even sue Jim. James Oliver Romine did. A non-lawyer can't represent a corporation, and Digital Homicide is just Romine anyway. He was a brain-dead idiot whose insane, rambling pro se filings may as well have been written in crayon and the only reason Sterling had to go to any significant expense in beating him was he had to retain someone in Arizona to do it.
Anyone thinking that is in any way comparable to a case from a firm that mostly represents vastly wealthy people including some individuals personally worth more than the $143 million Sony bought Funimation for is living in a fool's paradise.

Yeah but "It's a sham lawsuit" has to translate into "It's a pointless lawsuit" in the NPC programming. This then runs through other pop culture pointless lawsuits that these people know from the "approved_person.dat" file which results in Jim and the Digital Homicide Lawsuit.
Doesn't matter that these aren't even remotely comparable, just that it's another pointless lawsuit.
Ya know, one in which Jim had plenty of evidence even without the idiotic ramblings as noted by AnOminous.

As someone who followed along with the legal process of that lawsuit (mostly through Leonard French) I can say that this is a completely different situation except for the fact that the suit includes defamation and involves a nerdy hobby. Why does anyone even bother relating that case to this one? It's not like any of the defendants can use "criticism is free speech" like Jim did, because absolutely none of the shit they've said could be argued as merely criticism in any amount of good faith. Hell, I can already guarantee that this case will be less of a clownworld shitshow purely because everyone involved has gotten lawyers, as opposed to Romine.
Yeah, I had looked around at the half dozen articles written about the lawsuit and posted it in the main thread because there wasn't that much salt in them, other than Polygon. It got mostly ignored because of Elon Musk being the focus at the time, although it's not that big a deal anyways. Give 'em a read (with that pesky adblock turned on, some of those websites are cancerous without it), some of the comments are fun and it's interesting to see which publications have readers that are rational.
