They definitely utilise cancel culture to its fullest extent and are able to force "problematic" actors to capitulate whether they're journalists, developers or even tangentially related like that CDPROJEKT RED PR guy who they doxxed. Funnily enough, many of those participating within the thread where the dox was posted troll shielded the doxxer, "it's not doxxing because he works in the industry" or "What is doxxing anyway? They just posted his full name and face not his address".

There is definitely a massive amount of strategy involved in terms of breaking into the hierarchy. I've often thought of making an account there to see how long I can last, not trolling or even expressing opinions - I figure someone will try to get me banned for some bullshit reason. I never have made an account there though because you can't use throwaways and I definitely do not want to give these crazies anything identifiable.

Same here. One could make game out of seeing how long they survive. Hell, it wouldn't be hard to fit in. The average poster is so crazy it's difficult to discern trolling from toeing the party line.

Ultimately, I decided my energies were better spent channeled elsewhere. There are plenty of alternative online communities to "the biggest gaming forum on the Internet, ree" that don't evoke the depressive malaise of ResetEra.

I think Kiwifarms covered this insane troon in years gone by, but a reminder it is posting again under that new Resetera username Scarlet Death.

That was apparently done at Capcom's own judgement only to be undone later for every region outside of Europe. If you own the disc it never really affected you in the first place though.

Ignoring the first part about COD plots, it's like, dude it's fucking Tom Clancy, the ultimate CIA/black ops/etc. fan fiction writer with decades of ties to all these agencies all over the world. The games are all just as anal as he was about all the technology and weapons and TACTICS being canonically accurate. It's the one place nobody would have to do any kind of secret propaganda in favor of the agencies/forces because everyone will willingly put it into the work and even ask them for help to get it right.

That's hilarious. I can remember a story about Clancy arguing with the original Splinter Cell devs over Fisher's iconic three-lens headgear. Evidently he wanted to go with realistic goggles, which would've required an extra item, and it was just slicker to have a 2 in 1 nightvision/thermal system. Thankfully the devs won that one.

Tom was also easily duped several times by military tech that turned out to be absolutely bullshit (like a heartbeat sensor he debuted in the original Rainbow Six novel that turned out to be a rigged mockup the US Army discovered wasn't worth beans in actual use), which is why all subsequent books never reference it again.

Having played the Splinter Cell games and read some of the novels, I'd call Sam's iconic headgear a reasonable break from being realistic while still being plausible and fun in a player sense in the games.

As for the bitching the REEEtards are doing, one of the consequences of using the Tom Clancy trademark is that, insofar as remains practicable, all things using his name are to attempt to be as realistic in depiction as can be done, it's integral to using his name for video games based on military topics.

Some exceptions are obviously made for the sake of gameplay or technology limits, like how some gun models had mirrored textures on both sides in the original Rainbow Six because game tech wasn't as advanced as it is now, but accuracy whenever possible is basically a Clancy trademark.

A lot of them are literal mirror images of the weebs who jack it to lolicon. They might dye their hair, take hormones and have struggle sessions but it doesn't change their creepy pedo fantasies.

They were certainly very critical of the Iraq War and the Bush administration. The faction Universal Petroleum being run by a "Rich, Texan oil tycoon" and if you walk by some soldiers they sometimes say something like "This is like Iraq man, it's all about the oil". There's even dlc missions where you get to play as Obama and Sara Palin, which is pretty funny.

Although the US Military did contract Pandemic to create a military shooter to use for training, which led to Full Spectrum Warrior. No anti-Venezuela propaganda in that one, though.

Either way Mercs2 still a damn fine gamn. I miss Pandemic.
