Yup...and we're assuming he really hates it and it's not an exaggeration/act. I think there are parts of it that he dislikes or gets honestly angry with or annoyed by. But, he's able to put forth very little effort and get compensated big time for it. He hates it? Come on now.
He likes the money, but im pretty sure he hates gaming. He tries to compensate with saying "fun" but when did he had any fun lately? He is chained to his shitty console because of his laziness. He will stream on his deathbed, begging for a new breathing machine.

he hates the idea that he has to do something
in his ideal world he would just hop into chat and type out "i still exist"
and millions of dollars would just be given to him

I really don't see what Papavera gets out of watching DSP fail to follow his instructions correctly and act confused when something isn't explicitly printed on the label while simultaneously being a hair trigger away from flipping shit and calling you an idiot.

I've always believed its just a way of sucking up to someone "famous" in the hopes of being that cool guy. Kinda like how our very own @666EVE666 is our recognized resident archiver of Amber streams and modders like Hot Pocket Remix a is known name in the Dark Souls modding community and is often name dropped.

I think the only thing Phil truly hates about his "job", is how streaming has forced him to actually interact with people while gaming. YouTube by itself was a comfort zone for him...he just games...talks to himself and then uploads. Streaming has forced him way outside his comfort zone. If YouTube was still viable...there would be no streaming.

He has to interact with real people. That is something he truly HATES.

He may not necessarily hate games or gaming in total - we already know he plays p2w mobile games. But he surely hates playing them in front of an audience, when his lack of gaming talent is clear for all to see, despite him telling the whole world he's one of the finest gamers ever graced this universe with his presence. Why does he always goes full autistic mode about lag, bad connections, dropped inputs, bad gaming design, pressed buttons and so on? Every normal gamer would just laugh it off and go on. But with Dave, he has to constantly "prove" what hot hardcore gamer shit he is and when he naturally fails to do so and gets called out upon it, he comes up with his bullshit excuses to counter that. This creates an endless circle of promise, failure, excuses and ridicule which to me seems more like gaming hell than gaming heaven. I am pretty sure he really hates that, as anybody else would. If he would see the chance to keep his whales showering him money without playing games (well, besides games he really excels in maybe), he'd do it in an instant.

The one dollar top tip that held the spot for 40 minutes tonight was from a troll. "DarkDave's Mirror". Which is a channel on YouTube that re-streams Dave's content when he goes live on Twitch. People tune in to watch without giving him extra views and to be free to speak how they want about the stream.

"Dark Dave's Mirror tipped me a dollar. What are your thoughts on assholes re-uploading your videos without monetization?"
"Well, I'm pretty sure it's completely illegal. But unless I sue them, YouTube won't do anything about it, so... taha".

This is like Abstract Art.

Yeah, he despises streaming. No longer can he sit behind a camera and yell about shit to an audience he doesn't have to acknowledge. He can try his damnedest to feign ignorance, but every time there's a lull in the game or he wants chat to give him a solution to a problem, he has to see the emote spam, the memes, and a bunch of people who want to see him fail. Clearly he wishes he was still in his prime YT situation and he does his best to play pretend: look at how he has the unrecorded rants, how he pretends he finds things by himself when chat is telling him how to do it, how he ignores the cheese emote spam when he cheaps out a difficult part of a game, and all kinds of other shit like that. Everything he does on his stream is still built around a YT audience he doesn't have anymore; he only does his "verbal shoutouts" because he feels obligated to or else he won't get those shiny pennies.

I still think there's a bunch of games he despises playing, shit like MLB, Minecraft, and Subnautica, and he only plays them because he gets badgered into it by his "audience", someone buys it for him, or he doesn't have any new AAA release to fill the void. He's save scumming games like Phoenix Wright and DKC; he doesn't want to play these games. It's not like he's playing them for the world building, aesthetics, story, or enjoyment of exploration, he's playing them because other people convinced him to and he's trying to remove as much challenge as possible to get them over with. If he really wanted to play PW, it wouldn't have taken him 6 months to get to it after his patrons voted for it.

I think he might still enjoy games, but he wants to mash X to win for a lot of shit. If he's not visibly making progress like finishing levels, a % Beat counter, or something similar, the game puts a bad taste in his mouth. He can't just enjoy doing what he's doing if he's doing it, he has to be making progress towards some kind of goal and the game has to tell him he's doing it. The only genre I'd say this didn't apply to is fighting games, since it's a constant fight of learning and improving, but he doesn't even play those in any competitive capacity anymore, he plays them like he works for IGN (even though he doesn't do reviews) and needs to give his opinion on all the content a game offers, even if his audience doesn't give a fuck about that content.

There's probably truth in that, and I think that's how his mod roulette works, too. Papavera is supposedly older than DSP according to the lore, and is probably lonely, so it gives him some sort of esteem boost when Dave acknowledges him a bunch during a stream of a game he knows stuff about, even if the advice given is ignored, trivialized, or followed incorrectly and he gets lightly berated for it. Sad case of 'at least he acknowledges my existence'.

These are the people who paid him $1250 to play Minecraft in the 1st place. I'm not surprised they're then going to pay him to keep playing it. Apparently $1,000 isn't enough, he also needs his fans to write up a autisticly comprehensive guide and throw more money at him.

However I look at it, Dave has the best kind of fans. No questioning his bullshit, pay/donate for him to play games, then pay more to keep them coming.

Thing is, D$P doesn't want the guy's guides and proves it time and again by NEVER reading them. What he wants is folks to tape shekles to their handholding which he demonstrates by playing so dense that they resort to making Literal step-by-step cheers that he may or may not follow as 9 times out of 10 he blows it off with a "I don't know how to do that! That's too complicated" ( ie. using logs as uprights in the corners of his barn ). GrazyDream ( now Goldry_Blusco dropped ~$40 with such cheers as: 'Make a crafting bench'. 'four planks of wood.' 'Make a furnace'. ' 'You need 8 pieces of cobblestone.' 'Place the furnace on the ground.' 'Put the iron ore in the furnace.' 'Put coal in the furnace.' 'Craft an iron pick.' Then again, the guy has been playing the game for quite some time now and still doesn't understand 90% of the mechanics, how to craft even the most basic of items without his x-box EZ-mode point and click auto-crafting nor that the world is Procedurely Generated*

* 'Nope, don't see a Nether Fortess ( within the 100 blocks around my portal I've looked). Must not be any in this World...'
Additionally, it drives me to distraction that he continually disbelieves that advice/help known people in his chat give him. '...ummm...I don't think so.' 'Nope, didn't work. See, it didn't work. You're Wrong!' ...right before it turns out that the person was correct.

On a side note, he set himself up for an end to playing Minecraft. He went 'exploring' passing several new things all the while proclaiming there was nothing new to see/gather ( aside from the Dark Oak he did gather and the Witch's Hut he found). He completely ignored the person telling him he might find a Woodland Mansion if he looked around the Dark Oak Forest he found. 'Oh?' Proceeds to turn avoid entering the forest and wander about in a basically odd meandering spirals. He purposefully went off his map and then ended his stream inside a Witch's Hut even though he was told the Witch would respawn. I have little doubt that he will log in, get killed by the witch OR not be able to find his way home annnnnnd...'Well, I can't find my house. Can't start all over with nothing. Guess we have to end the playthrough here guys. Nothing I could do.'
Holy fuck I had no idea this actually existed. The fact that people, in order to discuss the stream properly, have to watch another stream, should've been this biggest warning bells that he is obviously doing something wrong.

I should have been more clear.

Phil is self employed because it makes him more money than he would get flipping burgers, fine and dandy.

What I had meant was that there should theoretically be no reason for Phil to play games he hates. No other streamer I can think of variety or not plays as many games they absolutely fucking despise as Phil.

If Phil was "well off" as in riding the gravy train and living within his means like people suppose he secretly is, he wouldn't put up with shit like Minecraft because Phil is at heart lazy.

He could play whatever he wants and he's proven he will play games that are less successful on his stream when his autism dictates (Dragon Quest and other jrpgs).

While its probably too late, most streamers have higher quality chats/streams when they enjoy themselves.

Since Phil is greedy/needy enough to miserably slog through game after game he hates the most likely scenario is he does need to wringe every penny he can out of his paypigs to keep juggling credit cards. Or he's a masochist, I guess.

I think he just understands that he will rise or fall by his fans/viewers. He wants to keep making good money doing very little. I'm not saying the guy is financially sound or in a great place....but he's also very much aware of how much attention/money these crisis situations bring him. He plays the needed games and orchestrates/exaggerates/inflates crisis's.

I think that this time he overplayed his hand. There are no games coming out for months that are going to lift him. Even the detractors are worn out.
Him coming back raging at people is going to hurt him for the rest of the year. I don't even know how he can walk back the way he handled the taxes into a marriage. He rages at detractors, he also hits the paypigs as well. It's a lose-lose situation. He holds taxes over his audience again and people are going to assume that it is something else. He fooled people twice with the same lie, I don't think it will work a third time.

He definitely needs to play games more in his wheelhouse. Fighting games, mainly. MAYBE throw in some super huge release every now and again.

And, he still SHOULD play games he absolutely despises for the rage-loving crowd. But only if he makes it a sub-goal or a paymetons goal (which he'll never do). Or take requests (paymetons/sub goal) for notoriously terribad games to play, vieweris pick ONLY ONE, and he has to go the @LordKaT way and plays it until he wins. Of course, we all know he'd wage-them long before finishing Deadly Tower on the NES.

Shit, for a small cut I'd play the games for him.

But then "he'd" finish the game, and we'd all know he is an even bigger fraud.

On that subject, could you imagine just how poorly he'd be able to cover it up with his "improvreactionarycommentary" over the top of someone else playing ANY game? He wouldn't make it 3 minutes into gameplay before someone called him on his shit. And the manual lean-in bans would take place when he's SUPPOSED to be controlling the character.

I'm all for this. Send him an email, LordKat.

Just remember that Dave has the mystical power to turn his detractors into himself. Remember this before you get into petty back and forths and post novellas.

On a more Dark sided note-

What is this newest moderator saga called? Dark side 3 The paypigs strike back? Dave Burnells The Gouting? I imagined he would have relaxed after getting married but hes moodier than ever.

"see! Even REAL lawyers AGREE with me that I would win in court against dumbfuck idiots who ILLEGALLY steal my content! lol"
What ever happened to that guy who had a mom(?) who was a lawyer and where going to sue the shit out of all TIHYDP creators?
