Chris-Chan Arrested and in Jail, awaiting Hearing on Monday (28-Dec-2014)

Geez, I feel so a-loggy saying this... I honestly believe that nothing - not jail, not prison, not a beating, not a group home, not therapy, not medication, not magical Mary Poppins - can fix Chris, this late in the game. At best, some of these punishments could at least ~suppress~ Chris' worst traits and bad behavior. If it's not for his own good, at least it might be for the good of the public to have Chris off the street for a period of time. :(

IF Chris goes to prison he wont get special treatment, he will be in general pop.
If by some judicial whim Chris does somehow manage to get sent to prison for this, he'll be sent to the little Big House, not the big Big House. Minimum to medium security. Most of his fellow inmates will be fellow fuckups, not hardened criminals, in for stupid things like bullshit drug convictions, paper felonies, and the like. They won't be interested in messing with Chris any more than they'll be interested in having their own lives messed with. If anything they'll avoid him and try to get on with waiting out their own sentences as best they can. Chris really is something most people try to stay away from, even people in prison.

Then again, do they have prison work gangs in Virginia? Those generally come from minimum risk, minimum security facilities, and that's not something Chris would handle at all well.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Chris's behavior during his stay in jail plays heavily into the judges decision, but what Chris really needs is a few days of observation by a trained psychologist followed by some kind of treatment Chris is forced to attend
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Chris isn't under 72 hours observation right now. He was arrested on Friday, and whoever is in charge of him at the county lockup has to have known they'd be stuck with him until Monday. I know were that me, I'd definitely be looking for any excuse to make Chris someone else's problem for the next three days. And with Chris, it's not like I'd have to look very hard.

Came here just to see if anyone had said it.
It's been said, though maybe not in this tread. I'm not going back to check.
Chris just got himself arrested and is possibly going to be held over the final few days that their rental house is paid for. His mother has no money, no friends, and no family besides Chris. All of that new hoard? All the filth they've accumulated in the rental house? Without Chris, it has to be hauled out and loaded onto a truck, and then delivered and unloaded into an active construction zone by a 73 year old parasite riddled woman with no assistance.
I suspect that Barb intends to let long, drawn out eviction proceedings give her an extra few weeks to move her precious hoard. I suspect this has been her plan for some time as 14BLC v2.0 has come closer, but not quite close enough, to completion. And even if it wasn't her plan before Dec. 26th, it's probably what's going to happen by default now.
Farewell Lego CWCville. We hardly knew ye.
Yeah, unless Chris gets bailed out of the hoosegow, and quickly, he's probably in for a lot of bad news from outside either way.

Edit: I just thought of something, but I almost don't want to say it for what the weens might do with it. What if Barb gets it into her head to sell Chris' junk valuable christorical artifacts to make another month's rent (or hire movers or whatever).

Interestingly enough, the county courthouse is managed by the Albemarle County Sheriff's Office, a completely separate entity. So many police forces... Maybe it's why Chris hates cops, LOL.
County lockups are usually run by the county sheriff where there is one. Most police forces usually only have holding cells at most. Also sheriffs and deputies are not quite the same thing as police. Police are employees of city and state governments, while sheriffs are elected by the people. That may seem a trivial distinction, but it's actually very important, in both theory and practice, and accounts for why county jails are the responsibility of sheriffs and not police. Put simply, if you ever do find yourself incarcerated, it's generally much better for you if the person responsible for habeusing your corpus is at least nominally directly accountable to you as a voter instead of only accountable to some government bureaucracy. That's not to say that police are worse, or better, than sheriffs, just that they have different responsibilities.

I honestly believe that nothing - not jail, not prison, not a beating, […] - can fix Chris, this late in the game.
Only one way to find out…

But seriously, it's not like leaving him to play with legos in his room has proven all that effective at fixing Chris. Even if incarceration has only the tiniest chance of correcting his future bad behavior, it has to be worth a try.

Never listen to Anna McLerran. She wants everyone to leave Chris all alone and under her supervision from across the country. Look what happens! The trolls break off contact and he gets sent to jail! Chris is just horribly bored all of the time, and left to his own devices he enacts weird TV character fantasies of egomania across the retail establishments of C-ville and surrounding areas. At least with his internet fandase, he was earning money and accomplishing things. If anything, this ought to teach everyone that trolling Chris keeps him safer than anything else.

I've learned more today about the Virginia legal system than I ever needed to know.
And who says following Chris isn't without educational purposes?

I don't think Chris has been ordered to a 72 hour psych evaluation yet. He picked to commit his crime on the absolute worst day possible- the Friday before a big holiday weekend. The criminal system is short handed and everything is on a holding pattern until Monday morning. If Chris has thrown tantrums in jail and given them reason to believe he might be a dangerous nut job, they will report that to the judge on Monday, and the judge will send him to spend the New Years being interviewed by shrinks. Another three days on top of the three he has already spent. This outcome seems to be entirely possible to me. That would buy a few more days for Barb to sell the BMW for bail money.

One thing I'm not understanding here is this notion that Barb's going to kill herself or otherwise break mentally because of a lack of Chris.

It should be clear to all that she's a consummately selfish woman who has made it to where she is by always looking out for number one:

-Barb is the sort of woman that gives the word 'slut' its worst connotations. I make no judgements on women
-Barb clearly slept around when Cole was born and potentially doesn't even know who the father is.
-Barb potentially pursued a romance with her own brother in law and alienated her family.
-The strained relationship with Cole, her own son, caused by many years of mistreatment.
-Having a son with Bob simply to ensure her own comfortable retirement, even though she clearly didn't love Bob.
-The Hoard, to the point of utter stupidity.

===

If the price is too high, Barb will abandon Chris. It wouldn't have been 10/28/11, because she was accused alongside Chris. But if the choice is giving up the hoard she has spent decades acquiring and the comforts she likes to bail out Chris, I don't think it should be taken as a given that she'd risk it all for him. And while Barb probably finds Chris useful at times, I think she'd mostly offer token support rather than really expending her resources for Chris--if she doesn't just outright turn on him.

Barb is not well mentally, but the hard reality about extremely selfish people is that collapsing relationships generally don't break them. If the choice is risking her own comfort to improve Chris' chances at law, I think she doesn't. And if Chris goes to jail for years, Barb's been alone before as well. If that "betrayal" means that Chris and Barb's relationship is badly damaged, so what?

At some point, Barbara Chandler gave up on Cole Smithey. The specifics of that aren't known, but they had many years to build a strong bond that didn't happen. There is no reason it couldn't happen again--and while it would completely cruel to do this to Chris, she's abandoned a son before. That this idea is even possible should be ample evidence that she's a remarkably defective woman.

TL;DR: Barb doesn't have to care and she likely won't as much as people think.

I guess I only have one question. Let's say he goes to prison for a year. Is there going to be a complete content dry-up? Are prisoners allowed access to Facebook?

No access to Facebook by prisoners directly. In the event he gets jail time the type of content that will be released is the following:

-Letters by snail mail or email. I know in Texas if you can bypass the snail mail form of communication by emailing letters to prisoners who will receive your emails printed from the computer. The person who sent it has an option of paying a little extra (I think it's like a quarter per page) and the prisoner can write you back and you will be emailed scans of the handwritten letters the prisoner wrote to you in response.

-Unless you find a guard willing to risk losing his job (highly unlikely) you will not be able to get pictures of him locked up that he hasn't sent to anyone on his own.

-People might resort to finding a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy who's locked up and will put money on his books in exchange for gossip.

That's about it I think.

someone needs to write a parody of this with appropriate CWCeske lyrics

Painting arms in the Gamestop
I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the law won
I need some money 'cause I have none
I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the law won

I left my Barby and it feels so bad
Guess my race is run
She's the best mom of 2000
I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the law won

Squirtin' people with my mace spray
I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the law won
I lost my mind and trolls now make fun
I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the law won

I left my Chu friend and it feels so bad
Guess his race is run
Was my best friend for a while
I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the law won

Now I feel even worse for the owner of the rental, because I'm sure you're right. As for Barb committing suicide, narcissists almost never commit suicide.

If Barb commits suicide or dies while Chris does time, it could be weeks or even years before her body is found, this happening increasingly with people who live alone who have their bills on autopay, they aren't found until their bank accounts are drained

Christ and with a tugboat those bills could be paid in perpetuity.

Dude, if you're not peppy, the two of you were separated at birth.

Haven't you asked this question before

I can see Chris or Barb ending up like this, Bob might have ended like this due to his estrangement from his pre Chris offspring

Not sure if it's been posted yet, but "Sega Nerds" has an article about the whole fracas:

I was googling news to see if Ruckersville has a newspaper online. No dice, but this came up.
Love the breathless tone of that article! Chris is "a polarizing internet celebrity who came to the fore of popular trolling". Whoever wrote that thing is going to grow up to be the next Norman Mailer.

Heh, yeah. I'm surprised there's no local news online, though. The local daily newspapers in my town have Facebook pages and any arrest, burglary, shoplifting, etc, it ends up online in an article.

And yeah, it's kind of interesting that we get so many "what will Chris do when Barb's no longer around" threads but the question of how Barb will manage if Chris isn't around for some reason is rarely considered.

You could probably attribute that fact to a couple of reasons. First off, Barb won't be much longer for this world. We know it and Chris knows it. She's an elderly woman who takes so little care of herself she's been plagued with scabies for literally years now. So, barring some kind of unforeseen accident, Chris will outlive her. The question of him not being there for her - especially in such a crucial time - wasn't even on the table, but such is the unpredictability of OPL.

Second, people have a sort of latent fondness for Chris. He is a toxic human being, but there is an element of powerlessness to him, which I think lends to the fondness. Yes, he makes the choice to stay who he is and refuses to improve, but Borb sabotaged any chances young Chris had. Barb helped make him. I recall someone saying that Barb is Chris' biggest troll, and I have to agree. Unlike Chris, she clearly knows better. She just refuses to be better. I don't think the question comes up often in part because of a lack of sympathy. We care about Chris' fate, but Barb decided for both of them long ago.
