I don't think it is common for NPD sufferers to have low IQ. indeed I think it's usually the opposite. They're seldom geniuses because so much of their attention is focused on appearing learned and accomplished rather than actually learning and accomplishing things but they're usually above average IQ. It's usually unhelpful to them as it feeds directly into their unwarranted self importance but it also tends to make them master manipulators who can affect a convincing mask of normalcy.
What makes Russ such a catastrophic car crash of a human being is his co-incidence of NPD and low IQ. He's relatively unusual. He's what we would see if all narcissists were stripped bare of their IQ points - a perfect storm of endlessly repeating, completely nonsensical attempts to manipulate potential sexual partners, rewrite history and get one over on their enemies.
He's honestly fascinating and I would read the shit out of a PhD thesis analysing him.

Yeah, normal IQ or high IQ people with NPD have just enough introspective ability to figure out if they act like themselves, they'll piss everyone off. Russ can't do that, he is incapable of seeing how other people see him. High-functioning narcissists also figure out the world doesn't revolve around them. They think it SHOULD, but they're aware it doesn't. Russ really does thing he's very important, as evidenced by his delusions that Mitt Romney reads his email personally, or that Taylor Swift dropped her song to distract from his ridiculous lawsuit. He can't figure out a bunch of shit happens in the world that has nothing to do with him.

Oh, that's just bias against him because of his disability! A pilot would write "I AM YOUR COOL, UNDERESTIMATED SON!" in the sky. A teacher would teach all the cool kids in the area of this cool guy who is kicking his disability's arse. An actor would produce a cool holocaust movie about a child reuniting with his parents. Russ has a totally legit paralegal degree that makes suing your family a totally sane thing to do. And remember, he was a shock jock back then, so we can't blame him for doing anything out of the ordinary.

I've known lesser versions of this- not nearly as entertaining, but lots of low-quality boring posts on FB. Russ is partly right that engagement has a lot to do with it- if you scroll right past the person's posts (or other people do) it will get buried and you'll basically forget they exist until the birthday when they get three pity posts on their wall and a temporary bump in visibility.
Russ knows this is a thing but he doesn't know how to make it happen. Liking your own posts... doesn't do it.
