Empire" actor Jussie Smollett was attacked in the early morning hours on Tuesday in what Chicago police are calling a possible hate crime.

Smollett was attacked by two people "yelling out racial and homophobic slurs" and "poured an unknown chemical substance on the victim," police said.

According to police, one of Smollett's alleged attackers also put a rope around his neck. Both fled the scene.

Smollett took himself to Northwestern Hospital and "is in good condition," police told CNN.

Later Tuesday, CNN's Don Lemon spoke to Smollett and a mutual friend who was at the hospital with the actor. Smollett confirmed the incident took place.

He was shaken and angry that an attack like this could happen. Smollett told CNN he fought back at the attackers.

"Given the severity of the allegations, we are taking this investigation very seriously and treating it as a possible hate crime," the police statement said.

Smollett has starred on Fox's "Empire" since 2015. He plays Jamal, a successful singer in the musical Lyon family. Like his character, Smollett identifies as gay.

"We are deeply saddened and outraged to learn that a member of our 'Empire' family, Jussie Smollett, was viciously attacked last night," a representative of 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment said in a statement to CNN. "We send our love to Jussie, who is resilient and strong, and we will work with law enforcement to bring these perpetrators to justice. The entire studio, network and production stands united in the face of any despicable act of violence and hate -- and especially against one of our own."

A representative for GLAAD told CNN the organization has reached out Smollett to offer assistance and support.

"Jussie is a true champion for LGBTQ people and is beloved by the community and allies around the world," a GLAAD spokesperson said in a statement.

If you go searching for arguments using this term, it is nothing but American Black people claiming that Africans are essentially "takin our jerbs!!!" and shouldn't be allowed to "profit" from coming over here and actually applying themselves until, I guess, all American Blacks are given handouts I guess or given cushy jobs for nothing? Unclear but what is clear is that they don't think Africans should be allowed in America.

This is just the first tweet that popped up on Google, but there's this new term American Black people are using: ADOS, which stands for "African descendants of slavery". Basically, this is used to separate American Black people from immigrant black people for the purposes of arguing immigrant black people are privileged.
To be fair, if they're still all worked up over historical slavery, I could see being mad at the people who captured and enslaved their ancestors in the first place.

Why? We're talking about current events. Jussie isn't trying to make it on the Vaudeville stage.
Because you're exactly wrong about what the paper bag test was, and it's germane to the current event that Jussie apparently still applies it as it was used historically.

Yeah, honestly the african tribal chiefs waging wars to get slaves and then selling them really don't get enough attention. I guess because that makes slavery a "People suck" problem, not a "White people suck" problem.

The reparations for slavery were not having to live in africa anymore. For your entire family and all their descendants.

Guess who isn't returning to Empire? (At least not right away, anyhow..)

While smollett isn't returning for now they are leaving the option open meaning that while he may or may not be back he will still get paid 125k per episode for not appearing and doing nothing. At least that's what fox is reporting and they produce the show.

I once met an elderly woman whose grandmother was a slave. I think it's not as far away as it seems in peoples perception. It could be argued the woman I met directly suffered by having a grandmother who was a slave.

I once met an elderly woman whose grandmother was a slave. It was an eye opening experience for myself. It's not as far away as people like to think and it could be argued the woman I met directly suffered by having a grandmother who was a slave.
And... what does any of that have to do with anything in this thread?

Empire is cancelled. Next Season (the sixth) will be its last. Fox execs dodge questions as to whether Smollett case had anything to do with it.

I hope whoever it was who posted that smug tweet from Empire's account about J's acquittal cried when they heard this.

And just think, all his coworkers will forever have to wonder if he lost them a steady paycheck. And it's not like they're great, well-known actors, and the show will forever have that association with him now so it's not going to do fantastic things for their resumes. That seed of doubt will grow into one of resentment, and if we're lucky the next time Jussie gets dragged into the street and doused in bleach it will be by...

... well hell I guess it was by "Empire" actors the first time too, wasn't it?
