If he had not placed 4th there, he'd just be unironically using something even more embarrassing as his sigblock (i.e. "Ranked 12th out of 15, American Skee-Ball Player @ Showbiz Pizza's All-American Connecticut Lil Tykes Skee-Ball Competition, 2008")

He would have fallen back on his East Coast Evo wins in Super Turbo. And, to be fair, he did come in first in two separate Evo East tournaments. However, you could point out that Phil's big time rivals in ST (I.E. John Choi, Alex Valle and Tokido) weren't at those tournaments. Phil still beat legit great players but what I found interesting is that Phil had to use a counter pick (A character that can counter another):

He was getting his shit pushed in by Balrog (Boxer)'s 50/50 after a throw and went to Honda to counter the setup. A setup that he's now completely forgotten about when he now plays ST; my theory is that it's some kind of Alzheimers or his alcohol use has effected his memory.

Ouch

I missed that. Nice. Yeah, not long after that tournament (maybe a year later) Seth was working at Capcom as a community manager and something else and assisted on Street Fighter 4 and Marvel VS Capcom 3. He was also a college professor at the the time he was playing fighters at tournaments.

Not much to see here, but there's one thing that strikes me: the way he tries to pull himself up and move around on the couch makes him look like an elderly person.

Holy hell, Phil is legitimately not capable of lifting his trunk with his tricep/bicep muscles! In the middle of the clip he has his hands grasping the top of the backrest and tries to pull his torso up from a seated position and is not capable of lifting himself whatsoever and he has to plant his left foot and throw in all the muscles of his left leg (calves, quads, and glutes) before he is able to lift himself off the couch at all! He actually might not even be able to lift himself off the ground whatsoever if he attempted a push-up from his knees!

Trivia: Seth was valued so much in the creation of Street Fighter 4 that the boss character Seth is named after him.

Phil however gets a reference in an obscure weeaboo game.

Not sure why it sticks in my head, but in his other Evo East win, I think he beat Justin Wong. But it was the way he won. Phil was playing as M. Bison, and he had Wong backed into a corner. He proceeded to use the same low kick, standing kick, scissor kick 4-hit combo over and over. It was very plainly something that Wong had no way to counter and was thus left to either block until chip finished him or take hits.

Every time Phil complains about people "spamming" anything, it's all I can think. The video of the match is out there.

I think that was Anniversary Edition that you let you play as any version of any character in past versions of Street Fighter 2. Phil was using Champion Edition Bison who had a legit infinite and that's what got him the win. Anniversary Edition was abandoned shortly thereafter (Gee, I wonder why?).

The back of his head is flat...this disturbs me
It's been speculated on starting here in the 'Dr. Phil' thread as possibly signs that he was an unwanted child who was left alone lying on his back a lot as an infant, and also possibly pointing to FAS if his mother didn't stop smoking or drinking during her pregnancy due to not wanting a child in the first place.

The FAS theory for why Dave is the way he is intrigues me more with successive mentions. Anybody buying it?

It may have been done against Wong as well, but this is what I was thinking of: https://youtu.be/_UEsDvbceKM?t=43 (timestamp to 43 seconds)

Was this the version of Bison you were referencing?

I can't imagine direct depositing HIS money into HER account is something Phil would be willing to do even if it saved him money.

Plus, I doubt the bank would roll over on 30-90k in mortgage when the dude's making stacks but pretending he doesn't.

I hope KoH doesn't intend on reproducing in his lifetime because only a true numbnuts throws fifty cents at someone just to be called stupid.
This shit is why some fucking detractors are just exceptional. They talk about wanting to see this dude fall and get what's coming to him, but will throw money at him just to call him an idiot. If I was in Phil's shoes, I'd let people call me stupid all the damn time if it meant someone dumber was going to pay to do it.

I swear, some of these detractor must huff paint. Call him an idiot all you want, just don't fucking pay him to do it.

He would have to call all of his bills, at least the ones he is choosing to pay, and get everything changed over to her account. He won't call to get the automatic payment date moved. Phil is lazy above all else. If the smart choice would create a lot more work it isn't even an option.

Eh, Anniversary Edition was dropped for a few reasons. It was weird that it was included for any reason at all considering it was like 2 years old by the time Evo2k6 rolled around to begin with and a lot of characters were considered broken.

2k6 was weird for a whole fuckload of reasons, tbh. It was the first year Capcom officially supported the tournament, it had fucking Mario Kart DS as a tournament, and I think it was the only year that a Dead or Alive game made it into the rotation (because DoA games are easily the worst of already bad 3d fighting games).

They went right back to good ole' ST the year after, likely because of complaints from players and Evo staff saying people were gonna be pissed if they brought it back. Capcom was probably trying to get people to play a newer game rather than one that was over a decade old. They stuck with ST until HD Remix came out a few years later since it was a pretty solid arcade port, and I think it's the closest port of ST that's been made still to this day. Alottapeepuhl said that AE was the best working version at the time since Evo had went strictly console, but they ended up going back to ST the year after, so I don't really buy it.

So, yeah, having broken characters in the mix didn't help (generally shit isn't banned in fighting games, but ST Akuma is an exception because he's stupid broken in the right hands), but it was sort of a gimmick game to begin with and never should've been in. As for DSP using Bison, there's only 2 CE Bison's in the Top 8 at Evo Finals, so, yes, it was kinda broken, but not so broken that people would only pick that. Unless it was spaced perfectly, you can still get out of it with a deep reversal, some stuff can trade...

It's far from an instant-win tactic.

AE was seen as just something to fuck around with. Same thing happened with HDR (Super Street Fighter 2 HD Remix) even though the balance wasn't nearly as bad as AE the hardcore tourney players didn't like HDR and returned right back to ST.
