Best smells?

This is gonna sound fucking weird to some people, but Nintendo games back in the cartridge days had a particular unique smell that's long gone now. Discs aren't nearly the same.

It was a very good smell, but even sealed old games don't have it anymore, and I've never found anything that smells like it. I've never even seen a weirdo forum where people try to track down that smell, and considering all the crazy stuff online, you'd think someone out there would be hunting down that smell. Finding products with a similar manufacturing process and everything, just to get that smell.

I know exactly the smell you're talking about. That smell was fun and joy in aerosol form.

  • Forests after a rainstorm
  • Freshly changed bed linen
  • Horses on a pasture
  • Freshly cut grass or hay as well. But this depends on where you are. If you smell that in an unlikely place like a train station or a terminal in an airport with no grass in sight, better get your ass out there as quick as possible, because chances are that you are in the middle of a phosgene attack.

It was a smell that said the fun is just about to start with some Excitebike.

You know what that reminded me of, the smell of old arcades. The smell of old beer, stale cigarettes, and warm electronics, you have a full pocket of quarters and your parents are off shopping for an hour. Time to see if you can finally get enough tickets to win that boombox, or just spend them on a million erasers.

Also the smell of new erasers.

That smell you get in a room full of old clothes.

A couple of personal ones for me are this tobacco my grandpa used to smoke, and I had a bit of a crush when I was a teenager on this girl who wore Chanel No. 5, so that perfume always gets me.

That heavy metallic smell around either the token machines or the "fire tokens into the top and try to get a pile of coins to pour down" game.

The smell of the Air Hockey machine when it turns on.

The smell of rain. Petrichor, I think they call it. I don't think there's any odor that's better than this one, and smelling it never fails to soothe me and make me feel better.
I also like the smell of wood in general. It comes close, but not as good.

Is it just me or does the "last week of school" or whatever have a certain smell?

Also I don't find it pleasant, but that weird kindergarten building or room smell? It's not stinky but it's weird.

New carpet.

New carpet smell I always associate with university move-in day because every dorm room had some cheap shitty remnant unrolled by one of the residents as they brought their shit in.

Last week of school smell is probably 100% pure distilled anticipation. Kindergarten smell might be 95% disinfectant, 5% urine.
