Community Munchausen's by Internet (Malingerers, Munchies, Spoonies, etc) - Feigning Illnesses for Attention

Jesus, yes, we can just source all new Munchie content from there. No one who's truly desperately ill, in real pain, or scared of receiving life-altering diagnoses is bothering with such an inane hashtag.

Kate Farms Shill, I've learned a lot about Munchie madness from you. Your commitment to crazy bitches is admirable, lol.

Some of the people on that hashtag are understandable. Like a few are just pregnant women on hospital bed rest who are bored simple and playing with makeup. Sometimes you get a real cancer kid whose parents have dressed her up like a princess to make her feel better about losing all her hair or who Child Life played dress-up with, something like that... Which makes it even more obnoxious when you keep scrolling and see the majority are perfectly healthy 18-35 year old dangerhairs sucking up resources and decorating their IV poles.

I'm glad to be of service. Munchies have gotten more sophisticated since my Victorian-era wilting in a sanitarium consumption chic cases, but at the core it's been the same song and dance for 200 years. That's why I love this new Lupus faker. She's consciously, unabashedly going after that tuberculosis and chlorosis aesthetic and failing so hard. Two years and she hasn't realized what a red flag her costumes and affectations are? Gee wilikers, that's special.

Christine has become my new favorite munchie calf. shes not prevalent at all in the community and everywhere she goes she insults people with her love affair of being terminally ill(not) but its quite something to witness.

"My doctor says I don't have lupus, but I totally have lupus and I AM DYING."

:story:

Also, her pedo sperging about her perv husband is just wow.

Thank you for delivering!
isn't lupus something they have very specific tests for? it's not a popular munchie diagnosis so i figured that's because it's hard to fake

i went through the #hospitalglam tag looking for people who have tagged more than one condition in their post, a key alert for munchies. there were some i didn't include bc they seemed legit, especially after seeing their not-just-about-being-sick insta. but here's the conditions.

  1. gastroparesis, mold toxicity, heavy metal toxicity, ehlers danlos, POTS
  2. pseudo-obstruction, digestive tract paralysis, inflammatory bowel disease, dysautonomia, neuropathy (this one also tagged it as childhood cancer survivor--i bet people who are super sick as kids and then get better are more likely to be munchies as adults, because they miss the attention)
  3. cystic fibrosis, diabetes, endometriosis, depression, anxiety, ptsd (i wasn't sure about this bc i know cystic fibrosis is hard to fake, but we've had a cf faker on here before, the fit vegan ginger)
  4. ehlers danlos, mast cell activation syndrome, fibromyalgia, BPD
  5. arteriovenous malformation, ehlers danlos, connective tissue disorder, POTS

There’s a recent readable but academic book called “Consumptive Chic” by Carolyn Day about the phenomenal popularity of faking consumption for aesthetics. Anyway she’s doing it wrong. And even back then doctors weren’t stupid. They knew these bored housewives were faking to get out of real life and made excuses for them because letting them play sick was lucrative and less annoying than having them screech and wail at your office.

you had recommended that book awhile back if im remembering correctly, i really should give it a read. its just so laughable how hard spoonies will insist that its unthinkable that people will fake illnesses for gain. christine is a joke, her insistence and childish idea of tragic frail ill beauty is incredibly fascinating. she must really think she is special when she is in reality living out basic tropes and failing at it.

It would be very unlikely to a doctor unless they really had no fucks to give, but easy to fool ordinary people if you're an asthmatic. Unless it's so mild it can't be easily triggered, just don't take your daily medication, deliberately aggravate it with known triggers, and avoid your rescue inhaler, and viola, you totes have cf that the mean doctors keep calling asthma.

Personal anecdote but after Moulin Rouge! came out a bunch of my school chums were obsessed with that tragic consumption death thing, probably because Nicole Kidman weighed all of 12 lbs in that movie and this was also the height of classic pro-Ana websites. One girl practically wallpapered her room in movie posters and would stare at them while she endlessly pedaled on an exercycle. That woman, 20 years later, now claims vague “autoimmune problems,” hypothyroidism, Fibro, asthma, immune deficiency, EDS, POTs, cyclical vomiting.... munchie see, munchie do.

Years ago I was given a couple of quack diet books from the late victorian era. One was for a m:lk diet, the other a more general rest cure. They both pretty much boiled down to bed rest for a period of weeks and months in quiet rooms with no distractions like reading, crazy restricted monodiets and enemas of such a variety to make Jethro Kloss proud. Then again, victorian room furnishings guaranteed eventual lead and arsenic poisoning, so maybe a few were really sick at some point before they succumbed to starvation.

Those are great. I have a collection of "hygiene" books written for teen girls that basically tell them to shoot bleach up their dainty parts and never exercise. I also have cook books for thrifty housewives that tell you how to hide that the meat you're serving your family is riddled with maggots.

Point 1: lupus will almost always show up with a very high antinuclear antibody test. Christine had a positive test but in the extreme low range indicative of nothing.
Point 2: cystic fibrosis is going to be the next munchie trend because of the movie Five Feet Apart and the recent death of Claire Wineland. Mark my word. They're not going to get doctors to go along with it but, like Ginge, they'll find ways to get the toys anyway.

good lord i need to find these books, that is simultaneously horrifying and interesting.

It's a weird choice. I don't know about in the US, but here for well over 40 years it's been tested for in babies a few days old as part of a neo-natal screening test designed to detect CF along with several other conditions where very early detection is desirable. 95% of cases of CF are detected at this stage and confirmed by a sweat test.

Good news! they're available for free online.
Every Man his Own Physician is one of the earliest examples in the US, 1767. Not specific to women's issues but worth a gander.
The American Frugal Housewife, 1835.
Health Hints to Women, 1875.
Fat and Blood, and How to Make Them, 1877
Women's Medical Companion, 1880.
Talks Upon Practical Subjects was basically Our Bodies, Ourselves for the 1890s.
Bicycling and Health for Women, 1890. (bicycling was one of the big women's rights events of the 19th century, led to practical dress reform and recreation outside the home, a lot of them joined cycling clubs that led them to participate in other women's rights movements like suffrage)
Ladies' Home Calisthenics, 1890
Hysteria and Neurasthenia, 1905 has some great photos in it.
What a Young Wife Ought to Know, 1905
And my personal favorite Premature Burial and How it May Be Prevented, 1905.

Like I said, not going to get doctors to go along with it. Going to claim, like Ginge, that they have some rare variant that doesn't show up on normal tests and was only detectable later in life and never give proof. That Amanda/Ren gal claims her boyfriend just found out he has CF at like, 20. One reason Munchausen by Internet is so spectacularly popular is you don't need to prove anything and you control the whole narrative. You wanna pretend you have gastroparesis? Just don't show the food you eat, post pics of your "bloated" belly, whine about nausea, and buy yourself an NG tube to self-insert by following directions on youtube. Which the insta-munchie hospital-clogger LifeofDani actually did a few years back and made even the other fakers abandon her for a while.

Epilepsy? Buy yourself a tard helmet then stick a seizure alert vest on your dog and take photos of it in Wal-Mart.

Mobility issues? Good thing you can get a wheelchair delivered to your door in two days. Don't forget a rollator, forearm crutches, and a cane while you're at it. Always have one of them in the photo and you're golden. If you (or your parents) are really loaded, you can even get a motorized wheelchair.

The easy availability of this stuff is great when you're the caretaker of a 95 year old who needs a commode and shower chair, but it's allowed munchies to buy themselves the image of chronic illness without ever having to go to a doctor.

Curating an image of CF on social media would be posting pics of giant high-carb high-calorie meals but not eating them, starving yourself down to feeding tube status, coughing, wearing nasal cannulae (also available on amazon!) and a surgical mask, talking about things like pancreatic enzymes, and occasionally going into the ER, taking 5000 pics, and posting them over the span of a week to make it look like you've been admitted.

Even three years ago she made one of her long dramatic Reddit posts about being Very Upset someone had accused her of having an illness fetish...

746476

And just a day ago she was again Very Upset about being accused of the exact same thing again.

746475

Seems likely that people have told her the same thing over and over again about how ridiculous her behaviour is for years, but just like in that YouTube video of her whining about the IMWAN forum, her response is "why are you being like this?" rather than "why am I being like this?". Zero self-awareness.

this is how it works in the US too
there are more mild forms where you can live to be an adult without knowing, like what this lady has, but she been sick her whole life without knowing why. or here's a paper about some people diagnosed as adults, but they all had recurring chest infections and other problems consistent with cf.

Dani finally got her fucking feeding tube.

Along with a suspected stoma infection.

(First time poster, hope I don't fuck this up too bad. Also add me to the list of people who are sick of IF and especially the crying about Jaq.)

I know Dani personally. I'm almost positive only reason she got that tube was to stop her clogging up the hospital with her constant gastric stim "emergencies" and self-starvation. So she moved on to needing -mab drugs for migraines, trying for an RA diagnosis, breaking her tube for attention...Man she porked up after the tube.

amazing that she happened to come back to social media right after Jaq died. IRL she never shut the fuck up about Jaq and how she was faking and "wasting resources like IV saline that people like me actually need!!!" And she really is as stupid as she seems.

She's had a little bit of social media presence over the last few months, but not much. Constantly switching Youtube channels and Instas. It was enough as to where I would only bother to look every few months. But this was posted just a few days ago - on the day that Jaq died, I believe.

The last video I saw was what you described - her screeching about her gastric stim not working and having to go to the ER and arguing with doctors about it. Knowing that she did that enough to get a tube just to shut her up is both hilarious and outrageous.

Dani has always sounded absolutely exhausting even online. Mad props to you having to deal with her IRL. It makes sense that she'd act just as whiny irl as online. Lol at her, of all people, complaining about wasting resources. And I DEFINITELY believe she is as stupid as she sounds. No one can type or talk like that and be anything else.

If you have any dirt or insane conversations you've had with her to relay, I'm all ears. She was always one of my favorite cows.
