@Dysnomia Atlanta is somewhat of a hub crossroads for the South. It has a lot of traffic via shipping and is "centrally located" for business as much as you can be in an area that stretches from Texas to Virginia. Oh my god. It looks to me as if they took out the middle row in that mini van, and Tammy is seated on the floor. Imagine being at a rest stop, just trying to get some Starbucks into you and walk out some of the ass-stiffness, when a mini van pulls up next to your car. The middle door slides open, and two fat rednecks get out to help a panting, grunting mass of lard slide out and get to her feet. All the while the mini van is just creaking and wobbling with every slosh of fat.

Here's to hoping they picked a route without many hills. The fact that the poor engine is going to be so overtaxed when going up hills aside, think about going -down- the hills. They'll essentially be an over-sized can of spam on wheels, with enough velocity to decimate anything they might collide into. If their brakes go out, they'll give one of those runaway truck stop ramps a run for its fuckin' money.

It’s atonishing to look at these photos and compare them to the same families in Hazzard two generations ago. You struggled to find any overweight people in most photos before 1985, at most there were a few 250 lb women or men with a huge beer belly. Whereas in 1970 a fat people were the very small minority, now skinny people are.

Really lends credence to the fact that the major American food manufacturers knew exactly what they were doing. Now the difference between the people in Hazard, KY in 1970 and 2015 is hundreds of pounds.

The food CEOs really took full advantage of the government giving the dumb and poor food stamp benefits. Very similar to tobacco companies denying cigarettes caused cancer or were addictive. People tried to deny the problem twenty years ago, but go to any Wal-Mart or poor region and the evidence is everywhere.

Fast-food companies are just as guilty.

The government gives them the food benefits which enriches garbage food companies. After getting obese the healthcare industry gets billions thanks to the govt provided medicaid. It’s a shell game. I’m going to guess it means they let him stay at their house after he got out of jail or thrown onto the street by the his last girlfriend. Could possibly mean he’s drinking less or not eating as many pills as a condition of staying there too. Homeless drug addict criminal Slaton is the only rung lower than the average Slaton.


The fat is thanks to laziness, food stamps and stores stocking “open bag and eat” sugar and salt filled crap. The skill of cooking has all but disappeared in two generations thanks to laziness and ease of getting free crappy food thanks to the govt.

Fifty years ago most families in rural Kentucky grew a good portion of their food, kept chickens for eggs and some livestock. At least 50% of the food on their table was from their own labor, The work that went into providing food kept them pretty fit.

They also canned their vegetables in the fall. Most women knew how to bake bread, prepare meats and cook every meal from scratch. This was a basic skill set every woman had - cooking and sewing skills were matters of survival for every family.

Amy’s ancestors would stew apples they grew, make pastry dough and bake fresh apple pies for a treat. Amy opens up a bunch of cans from Wal-Mart, stirs it together and calls it a family recipe.
