It's another way the misuse the word miracle. Is it a miracle when it took ridiculous amounts of medical technology and science to keep your miracle alive? If you're going to thank god for a severely deformed, disabled, exceptional infant then let him take the wheel and keep all that evil medical science shit away from the miracle.

Natures typos only survive past birth thanks to life saving surgeries, drugs, feeding tubes, etc.. God/nature would have made sure they died fairly quickly if they even made it out of the womb alive. That's what gets me about the religious nutters and their miracle babies. The only reason the deformed are able to continue to live is because of modern medicine. God has nothing to do with it. Ahmad has congenital hydrocephalus. His parents are dirt-poor laborers from rural fuck nowhere Indonesia. Regarding the Christianity part, as someone who grew up in a Roman Catholic household and having Christian friends, most Christians are fairly down to earth and are disgusted by the hubris of these fundie asspat parents since pride and greed are two of the seven deadly sins. I also find it extremely ironic that these same Bible-thumping goblin breeders don't know any of the parts of the Bible regarding exploitation, specifically this verse:

Kayla’s mom wheels her out to events all the time to bask in the attention. Like rounding the bases with her wheelchair at a minor league baseball game. She tries to put on “extravagant Celebration of Life” events, the 2015 one with the theme “fashionista” where she attempts to get as many freebies and donations as possible.

Photos of the boys show totally normal looking healthy kids. I almost think she was a munchie who suddenly got an actual terminal potato baby after playing martyr mom with the others. Kayli at least might have saved the three other kids from a decade of unneeded medical procedures and dramas.

Huh? This is what you got out my post? It’s up to every woman to decide how willing she is to care for a child whether it might be perfectly healthy or severly retarded. If you are told a fetus has a chromosome disorder you better be ready to care for the worst case scenario for the rest of your life, not hope for the best.

The point was you might be able to force a woman to carry an unwanted pregnancy but you can’t force a woman to care for any resulting child, whether it’s disabled, retarded or healthy. Pretending that forcing pregnancy upon women will result in anything other than a lot more abuse, neglect, hardship and sad stories is naive.

But pregnancies where the child will never be capable of being a self-supporting, independent adult are extra difficult because this child will depend upon the charity of the state and society its entire life. A child with mild retardation will only have “good quality of life” if there are caretakers who actually give a shit about them, they will be at the complete mercy of others for their entire life. There are plenty of kids in stuck in foster care that could have “good quality of life” but not nearly enough prospective adopt parents to make that a reality.

Even religious hospitals didn't put effort into keeping them alive.

You should've brought up a more serious condition. Turner Syndrome doesn't cause mental disability, and 99% of women with it go on to lead productive lives. I agree that mothers should have the right to decide whether or not they want to carry a child with genetic defects to term, and that they shouldn't be judged for their choice.

They insist that a child who never hits any developmental milestones and suffers 100 seizures a day because their malformed brains can't handle any sort of stimuli should be treated the same as a child who suffers from physical and/or mental disabilities but can still lead a fulfilling life. Some of these laws that have just been signed into law...going completely against the US Constitution...are horrific. In Ohio, I believe, it's illegal to even have an "abortion" with a tubal pregnancy. That's something that will almost always kill the mother and never leads to a viable pregnancy. I know they're trying to be as outrageous as they can to get it to the SC, but women will die. When a tubal or ectopic pregnancy is diagnosed it's an emergency situation. It has to be handled immediately. Imagine being several hundred miles away from a hospital that will perform the procedure.

She didn't even know she was pregnant, but woke up one morning thinking she was just having really bad cramps. Well, they just got worse and worse until she had to go to the ER. She was rushed into surgery after an ultrasound and it barely just saved her life. She was absolutely beside herself with grief. It would have been her and her husband's first child. He's a pastor, btw, and completely encouraged the procedure. Anyway, she went on to have two beautiful, healthy children who wouldn't be here if that procedure had been illegal. That's pro-life fundies for you. Fuck you if you aren't a clump of cells. Then moment you breach that womb, you and your entire family can fuck off unless you're a genetic freak of nature.
