RPGnet Forums

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Oh, I'm Team Mod on this one. They're still dumb spergs, but getting rid of the people who, on a forum ostensibly about RPGs, can't handle two weeks without REEEEEEEEing about Trump will make the forum better. As will kicking out the people who think that if they can't talk about Trump on, again, a forum about RPGs, for a brief period of time, it's the same as being complicit with the Trump administration.

They'd be left with literally nobody if they did that because they already banned everyone who doesn't REEEEEE about Trump every 10 seconds.

That's why I'm not fully on the mods' side.

The mods are whining pussies complaining about the emotional turmoil they're suffering from having a shitty forum full of scummy people they hand-picked themselves by banning everyone sane.

The snotty attitude of the mods doesn't help either.

"Let the motherfucker burn."

The problem is that the board has been an incubator for Trump Derangement Syndrome and SocJus for the last five years, and the mods have been encouraging it. They even brand themselves as the social justice board. The spergs have thoroughly taken over and the reasonable people have left. So the time to try and stop this is long, long past. It's a case of reaping what you sow. The snotty attitude of the mods doesn't help either.

Oh, the mods are terrible. Not disputing that. That they're having to deal with the spergs they've actively fomented is very enjoyable. But the userbase being as insufferable as it is, every banning's a good banning, and if it's because the mods are just over it, it's even more fun to watch. I think a forum can only improve by getting rid of these users - or it can wither and die, that would also be satisfactory.

I think I just empathise from the perspective of being in a forum and thinking, 'Oh look at that asshole, back on their bullshit' about other users, and it's exactly that sort of user who appears to be getting thrown out. The mods made their mess, sure, but I'm tickled by the idea of there being some very huffy tweets and comments elsewhere from users just shocked and appalled, or even totally shaking rn, at the harsh behaviour of a forum that's clearly been overrun by Nazis. Even if only that there's more asshole users getting BTFO than asshole mods, I support their purge.

Every ban is a good banning? So the only real answer to this self-created problem would be to shut the board down then? I'm all for it. At this point, they've broken the board beyond repair with their own stupidity, so I have no sympathy for the mods or the users. They are all anti-Trump spergs, so let them sperg their own forum to the ground.

Tangency was a problem even when I was there, and I haven't visited RPG.net since D&D 3.5 was a going concern. Even before then it had a habit of getting out of control. Instead of shutting it down and keeping it a fun site for RPG enthusiasts, they let the vitriol of that one board take over the entire site. It's as if a hobby full of insecure autists can't police itself. Who knew!

I haven't logged in to that site in maybe 7 years or so. Do they actually talk about RPGs anymore, or is it all REEEE!!! Orange Man Bad!

Lol I wonder how they'd take it if i said I supported the Camarilla instead of the Anarchs in Vampire the Masquerade. Probably accuse me of being a Stormfront Nazi and ban me.

Actually, yes. When logged out so you can't see the loony bin, it's actually fairly tolerable.

The spergs ruining it for everyone else are a relatively small minority of the entire board population. Unfortunately, said minority also encompasses a good chunk of the mods.

You're seeing a microcosm of the communism that most people of those tards have wet dreams about.

At first everyone is on the same "Drumphfff/capitalists = bad!" page. Back are slapped, vodka is drank. Times are good.

But then the slightly less stupid of them (commissars/mods) realize that life goes on and there's actually a country/message board to run.

The rabble resents this because they are dumb Commies and literally have nothing else to do but bitch about things. They start to complain about the death of utopia. Then, tired of the nonstop bullshit, the commissars/mods begin the firing squads/bannings.

Then revolution... After which people realize how retarded they were and begin to act normal. That is until the old dumb people are forgotten and new dumb people take their place. Then everyone starts to listen to them and it starts all over again...

I apologize if this is thread necromancy but apparently the mods at RPGnet instituted a temporary ban on political discussions and banned a lot of their own sycophants in the process.

However, the ban is almost expired and will be lifted on June 3.

Zeea, one of the main troon mods has made a recent announcement about it. Of course he mentions Nazis
Nah, we were getting some laughs out of it. Can't wait to see the outpouring of vitriol after June 3 rolls around. It'll be like that 'Swamps of Dagobah' medical story a friend showed me.

Could be a CYA, since there was a rumor that one of the recently banned was feeling suicidal after copping said ban.

I love how he talks about wanting to be welcoming to a wide variety of people and telling Nazis to fuck off in the same breath. "We are also aware that certain movements intend harm to our users. We want to be welcoming to a wide variety of people, and doing so means we have to exclude hate group members and others who would make this place dangerous and unwelcoming." The mistake of conflating unwelcoming with dangerous, of characterizing political disagreement as "intending harm", only reinforces the belief that the best way to prevent philosophical conflict devolving into physical conflict, or producing psychological trauma, is to prevent any philosophical conflict arising at all--which ultimately produces psyches incapable of surviving outside a mentally sterile "safe space" and is exactly what drives people to over-invest in places like RPGNet. It's a nasty corollary of Geek Social Fallacy #4: Friendship is Transitive. Everyone in the geek space must get along, or else they're secretly trying to hurt the geek space.

Oh, and as long as we're talking about industry professionals, Z, let's talk about all the ones you've banned for wrongthink over the years. Or your hypocrisy in claiming the right not to care about someone else's feelings while still demanding they have a duty to respect yours.

Maybe I've been reading too much Resetera, but the bit about "This is a games forum and you're not going to prevent the next Hitler or organize a grand uprising by whining about Drumpf," is surprisingly level headed.

Compared to Resetera, yes. The problem is that this attitude comes about four years too late.

Exactly. "This is just a little elf game forum"...

Cue nonstop screencaps of RPGNet stating that "this is war, this is jihad, this transcends little elf games, we have ORANGE HITLER IN CHARGE NOW!! If you openly say you're a republican or like Drumphy expect the worst...you'll get no help from us... "

Man I wish that loser would have offed himself because of this temporary politics ban. One less mongoloid in the world, RPGNet suffers from collective, Christian Bale in "The Machinist" level guilt. We're talking years of fodder.
