D$P's Dark After Dark - Oft called the After Dark Party where folks continue to chat after the stream ends

Earth-as-Hellscape-level take incoming:

I don't fault him for wanting to make money off his YT Archive and still calling it that, and the whole "YT is just an archive" as a detractor meme is actually internally consistent. Now this isn't a parallel comparison, but museums exist as archives, too, and still need money to operate, whether it comes from taxes, people buying tickets, or charitable donations from eccentric rich folk. Now I'm not saying DSP's YT channel is a bastion of historical or artistic significance, nor am I arguing the validity of copyright claims and his qualms with people or companies protecting their IP, but Time = Money no matter what business you're in or how you make money, and there is some level of investment from DSP, as minimal as it may be with hitting start/stop recording and an upload button.

He does still try to get whole playthroughs up if a certain part fails to upload, he does try to fix his playlists, he does at least make it navigable with how he titles his shit, even if they're bad titles. So the whole "YT is an archive" thing doesn't necessarily mean he's doing it for free. If it was done without the intent to profit at least somewhat, he wouldn't give a shit if things fucked up and never fix them. Yes, he does it for gain, but museums also rent pieces from other museums to spur interest and get people in the door.

Just because he calls it an archive or "fan service" doesn't mean he shouldn't care that he's not making money (or the "right money") from it; there's not really anything wrong with that, imo. If you wanted to call him out on the YT as an archive thing, I'd point more to how he makes a distinction between his YT and streamer audience with his unrecorded mid-segments where he bitches about stuff because "his YT audience wouldn't care or understand", or when he stops playing a game to rant about other streamers when it does get recorded. Or point to how he ignores what chat is saying, or outright contradicts their overwhelming opinion, in some attempt to save face or justify his actions with his YT audience when he claims that the vids aren't catered to them.

The whole "YT is an archive" thing is kind of petty and stupid to bring up as a point when there's so many other inconsistencies to point out that he wouldn't be able to actually make a defense against.

I think the miscommunication is this.

YouTube does not make the same money as before. Phil stops making videos for YouTube. He makes twitch videos and puts the recording on YouTube as an archive. You can see his previous streams like you can see exhibits in a museum.

The contradiction is that when somebody asks, "Why don't you do a DSP Tries It.." the answer is no. YouTube is just an archive and makes no money.

Phil both relies on YouTube for money and uses it as an excuse not to make edited videos because they don't make money.

"It's Just An Archive" is a meme because it is code for "I'm Too Lazy".

We know he makes money. He knows he makes money. Saying YouTube is an archive is taking a jab at YouTube because Phil hates them.

He said yesterday right as I was getting out of this stream that youtube only lets him put one ad on minecraft videos, even if he specifically instructs them to put 6 ads on it.

edit: big ups @LyteSydeByll

I agree with most of this, but my argument against it was when people bring it up whenever he complains about money/ads/copyright strikes like he shouldn't care about it at all, which is when it's most often brought up. It's not brought up that frequently when talking about how lazy he is, at least the way I see it thrown around, it's always in the context of money.

The only thing I'd disagree with is the DSP Tries It thing, which probably does cost him more to make the video (at least initially, not considering potential new viewers that could translate into profit over time) than he would make off of it in ad revenue considering how low his views are and his likely-trash-tier CPM. He could easily turn it into a stream event if he put in the tiniest of effort.

Isn't the other router for the 2nd line downstairs or something? He could use that and stream from his kitchen table if he wanted, but that would mean unplugging a few wires and he's absolutely terrified of touching anything on his PC/Laptop because his shit is probably on the razor's edge of not working. Hell, unplugging and moving his PC for a kitchen-streamed DSP Tries It would even give him reason to clean and rearrange his office since he's moving shit anyway: do a stream in the afternoon and spend the next few hours after it's over rearranging, or starting to rearrange, his shit.

I don't disagree with your take, but what I was saying was more centered around the general reaction and use of the "YT is an archive" meme.

DSP is perfectly within his rights to use YouTube to make money. In fact, a big part of his downfall came from him blowing off YouTube when YouTube was changing.

I always thought the "YouTube is just an archive thing" had more to do with how Phil still cares more about his YouTube audience over his Twitch audience, despite also insisting he does Twitch full time and gets the majority of his income from there.

Basically, the issue is Phil is still trying to capture that magic in a bottle where he was making big YouTube bucks even though he constantly shits on and blames YouTube for his career failing.

Disagree with this 100%. DSP might be lazy, inept, and kinda stupid, but he's not stupid to where he believes his content can actually "capture lightning in a bottle" with the way he uploads now. He's gotten rid of every episodic-type video he's ever produced, which is the kind of thing that goes viral. He's well aware of, and has made comments about, his current style of upload not being the type of thing people are interested in, even if his reasons (whether or not he actually believes his own excuses is irrelevant) for them not getting attention are wrong.

He just wants to be able to shove as many ads as possible into every video and make as much money as possible off of every one as his "entrance fee" to the DSP Gameplay Archive Museum.

To be fair, he wasn't banned. Just didn't respond right away, so Phil naturally assumed that @CodeCastiel was cowering or something.
I wasn't cowering. But i wasnt. Going to be baited into giving a logical reply to his comment so he could ban me. He was looking for a reason to ban me, since madara already has an issue with me,

Lol the "investment" of a $5 burger that his fat ass is going to eat two of for lunch already anyway. If he makes a buck on ads he's money ahead. He is just a lazy, disagreeable piece of shit that hates his fans.

Little afterdark bitching tonight. This:

[2019-05-22 04:21:20 UTC] codecastiel: idk. i just think his reasoning for not wanting to downscale to a cheaper living condition is pretty flismy3
[2019-05-22 04:21:39 UTC] codecastiel: such as bad internet or streaming set up
[2019-05-22 04:22:08 UTC] codecastiel: phil could stream 240p and we all still watch and chat.

gave this:

[2019-05-22 04:22:03 UTC] darksydephil: and it's none of your fucking business. what I say is truthful and if you don't believe it, then why are you here
[2019-05-22 04:22:18 UTC] darksydephil: wow, talking out of your ass lol
[2019-05-22 04:22:49 UTC] darksydephil: it's not your place to question me. if you believe me great, if not, move on
[2019-05-22 04:23:04 UTC] darksydephil: but don't sit here talking shit in my own chat just because i went offline and you threw me a few bucks today
[2019-05-22 04:24:46 UTC] darksydephil: I don't have to justify myself to you or anyone @CodeCastiel . My life is my own. I know what works for my business as it has for five years now. If you have issue with that, that's on you and you have every right to not believe me or move on. Go join the conspiracy theorists who think I have an offshore account or something
[2019-05-22 04:24:54 UTC] darksydephil: but don't talk shit about me behind my back, thanks
[2019-05-22 04:25:59 UTC] darksydephil: notice he shut right the fuck up when I showed up lol

codecastieL is currently 2nd on the bits leaderboard and has done ~$33 in tips recently. Money well spent, obviously.

Actually i only threw money at him. Because I plan on being mod, and he actually went and unbanned me after madara banned me for asking if Koz could be unbanned.

You're a fucking r.etard for posting here and admitting to that being you, when you know that either DSP browses here, or his mods do and they report everything back to him. You've just cucked yourself and paid DSP while doing it.

Lol, True. But If dsp took 3 seconds to look. Me up. On YT or (permabanned) Twitter, ive always argued with him on Twitter. And i got a rogue mod in my pocket who tells me whats going on.

I actually been on KW with this username for months now. And i made no attempt to hide who i am on stream lol i offered phil 50$, to fight me on smash or SFV. (Im mainly a smash streamer) but i work for a living.

"It's not your place to question me!"
If someone online or IRL says that to you and you keep giving them money you should volunteer for a lobotomy.
I agree. I chargeback tho

How often does that work? Every time or a percentage?

Well it actually works every single time. Let me explain how. If i use Google pay to purchase a subscription or Tip. Google pay will use paypal to pay for it. So paypal will show up as a Google charge, which i can contest. Google has its own method, for refunds, so when paypal reaches out to google for disputing charges, google doesnt respond back, so im usually refunded uncontested.
