Yeah, Phil is likely, at most, 50% Italian blood via his father, and is far-removed enough from even the immigrant culture that he's basically a standard white American.

To expand on why the Phil=Italian=white thing keeps coming up: Phil uses his father's first name, Angelo, which is a pretty typical Italian first name but could maybe pass as a Spanish first name to anyone who doesn't know better, to attempt to mislead people into thinking he's Puerto Rican, and therefore not white (even though a huge chunk of Puerto Ricans/general Latin Americans are 100% European blood). Totally not white "Puerto Rican" is what he swapped white Italian out for, in his fake identity.
This tactic doesn't actually work on anyone, but he's to dumb to realize this.

Yep. He's so removed and suburban he can't even play up his European roots since his mom is a typical WASP from the suburbs of the Northeast

Ironically, Angelo is proud of his Italian heritage and is way more multicultural than Phil will ever be, since he is married to a black woman and based on what we know of him, is also very knowledgeable of Italian-American culture and history.

Yet Phil hates his guts more than any other person (aside from us Kiwis, of course)

Phil is so painfully suburban white and uncultured that he thinks Jennifer Lopez is the epitome of Puerto Rican culture and does not know that Puerto Rico and Mexico are entirely different cultures.

It occurs to me that you could view this as another example of Phil trying to use labels in place of actual personal development. It’s perfectly possible to be interesting, culturally aware and cosmopolitan as a white person, but Phil thinks he can skip all that by just pretending not to be white. In reality, of course, it has the opposite effect, highlighting how little he knows about “his own people.”

I mean, there’s also the oppression points, of course.

I love the origins of insults, one of my faves that Brits usually know but Americans and even many Canadians do not: that of brown people being called wogs or woggies. Wog being a contraction of 'Western Oriental Gentlemen' an old Brit term for the immigrants to England from it's main 'oriental' colony of the Indian subcontinent.

you'd figure even the dumbest poseur would at least try to figure out the differences of the thing he's posing as. typical Puerto Rican tacos are absolutely nothing like Mexican tacos for example - it's impossible to confuse the two. isn't a sign of autism the fixation on a particular topic to the point of memorizing train schedules or the minutiae of Prussian clock making? it'd be the one topic i would expect Phil to at least try and inculcate himself with, if nothing else, then to pretend to be "latinx" better.

Nah, it's mostly because Phil doesn't actually care about any of it because he's not really interested. He wants to be seen as some sort of Che like resistance leader but he doesn't actually want to do any research into his cosplay because that would be, well, work. He also thinks most everybody is as stupid as he is, so he thinks he can fool us... and is continuously amazed when literally nobody buys into his bullshit, other wannabe Antifa types included! LOL

Phil wishes he was smart as any of us, and isn't an anarchist because he sucks the nipple of the government constantly. A true anarchist wouldn't be on welfare and would be making a sustainable life for themselves.
