Arin Hanson / Egoraptor / Grump - "Hey I'm Grump!" of Game Grumps fame, hypocritical SJW doxer, shat himself recording a let's play

And apparently it’s hard to even get Arin and Dan to schedule one day a week to record a couple hours of not paying attention to video games

Honestly, I think Arin hates playing games -which he’ll try to blame his ADD - and Dan isn’t interested in 90% of games besides ones connected to his childhood.
This is what I like to call the "DSP" effect that most of the let's players/streamers have. You do something like let's playing as a hobby on the side while focusing on bigger projects -> ( early game grumps ), then you start doing it solely to make a living because you kinda enjoy it. Then over the years you start getting sick of it but are now stuck in a position where you can't leave or else your fucked. So now your forced to do something you dislike, and only growing more hatred for it by the day, while any joy you once had doing this activity is gone. You may try different things to keep it fresh but that all depends on the audience you've garnered.

tl:dr- Even if Dan and Arin hate playing games, if they stop - they-are-Fucked

Never liked Arin or the Game Grumps in general. Always found them spammy and uninteresting, only being funny once in a blue moon.
They rage quit Battle for Bikini Bottom for fucks sake how can someone be this bad at playing games especially a game made for 10 year olds.

in my opinion we should start making threads for all of these " youtube companies": Grumps, Rooster teeth, normal boots, TFS, ect

Agreed, if they make for an interesting enough thread. I don't honestly think there's too much lolsy meat on those bones but maybe it's still on the slow cooker, waiting to spoil a-la ProJared.

honesty you'll be surprise how incestuous a lot of these youtube companies
All I’ve noticed is that a lot of well-known youtubers come from California. I guess I wouldn’t really be that surprised if there’s a corporate entity that buys up upstart Youtubers for a low risk/high return profit
Care to elaborate?

I used to like GameGrumps. Even back at the start, Jon was far more entertaining than Arin. I genuinely enjoyed their videos together and it was sad whenever they'd drop an LP and move on to something else. I just couldn't enjoy Arin's jokes or personality much. He seemed pretty egotistical, no pun intended, in a lazy way. Lots of signs in the later episodes with them how things were tense. Either way, they had good stuff and a good dynamic. My favorite parts were always when Jon freaked out or screamed (Chulip is a good example), or when they genuinely made each other laugh (best example I can give is during Zombies Ate My Neighbors).

But I always hated when Arin would play. Like everyone said already, he just wasn't very good at 3D games. When Jon left, I tried to give Dan a chance, and I liked him. He was very nice and calm, and I liked it when he got to play. By the end of Wind Waker, though, I was pretty much burnt out at Arin's stupidity and Dan's lack of input, and stopped caring/watching. Haven't watched any of their new shit since, and sometimes rewatch the old vids with Jontron.

When that show finally dies, it'll be a good thing. Not for Arin and his Code-Lyoko-Bride, but for everyone else.

Good thread, though. Informative and horrifying.

Exactly These fuckers have some shady shit to them. You can tell by how much they detest any form of scrutiny and cry in front of a camera when things don't go there way.

I’ve noticed that most youtubers that move to California all experience a burnout/self imposed controversy. Projared was from Wisconsin, Arin was from Florida, Bobby Burns I believe was from the midwest, the Pauls are from Ohio. Something in nonnatives just snaps when they get exposed to California air or something.

This is probably the first time I've seen someone reference Code Lyoko. Thank you for the nostalgia

I'd guess it's because there's the view that you've made it when you move to Cali, because you now live in the same place as those big Hollywood guy's and thus on the same level as them. But of course that only really appeals to those with large egos, a sane person would look at what you have to pay in those big cities and stay the fuck away, thus only the crazy fuckers come.

Their website is shit.

Also why do they have a website?
To be fair they do need to have someplace to host the time and places of their tours, and if you need that you might as well host your merch there as well. Granted it's basic as shit, in particular the about section seems too short, and I feel that the tour section should really be laid out better. But overall I'll say it's probably necessary for their needs, and I don't think it would be that expensive to make or maintain as long as they didn't do something stupid like hire the makers of whitehouse.gov for it.

Also why do they have a website?
it's a fifth wheel to selling garbage merch. Penny Arcade figured it out eventually, selling lots of collectible pins and clothing, and occasionally plugging other people's games and their own little side projects. Most other e-celebrities don't quite "get it."

Cali is "the" place to be for this kind of work because there is the most opportunity there. It was easy, for example, for Projared to collaborate with Game Grumps (and fuck Ross' wife) because they were in the same area. Same with virtually any collaboration GG has done for the most part.

It's also a big hub of Video Game Journalism because a lot of Video Game studios are centered there. Correspondingly, there are also a lot of Voice Acting/Anime Studios there as well on top of a lot of other tech/corporate headquarters. It's a very good hub to be in, if that's what you want your world to be. It's way easier to collab with other artists, it's way easier to attract sponsors when you can meet in person, it was easier to branch out into other "video game" areas/jobs.

(See also but to a lesser extent - Montreal, Seattle, Austin/Dallas, Boston)

Culture shock, then? I can’t tell you how many native Californians are trying tonget out of the state, or just the state’s hotspots just to get away from all the nonnatives coming in and jacking up the price of living here.

It isn't culture shock (if you're referring to youtubers specifically) - its the same thing across any job that is based in a hobby. You have this shiny new job that will never ever get boring because it's what you do for fun, only to find out after doing it as a full time job for 3+ years that it is no longer fun and you've poisoned your hobby and you cannot escape as this is what your whole world is now. This happens to youtubers no matter where they reside.

The people who are fleeing California (and subequently fucking up all surrounding areas like Nevada and Washington) are normal people who realize they aren't getting anything out of the state compared to what they're putting in. It's so expensive that normal/entry level jobs can't survive in that environment (like retail workers, baristas, small businesses, etc) and even if they could the "good" parts of Cali still have literal garbage spilling in the street and homeless people shitting on the streets/walls. The bad areas are very bad areas that normal people want no part of. Considering they can't afford the good areas (and they aren't even that good) and the bad areas are literal hellscapes, the smart option is to move.

A lot of the "progressive" types in California are progressive until it fucks up your life. Most people are compassionate to homeless people until one of them throws shit at you at a bus stop. Most people are compassionate to immigrants until an illegal shoots up your block. Most people like Democratic controlled states until they can't provide basic shit like affordable housing, clean water, trash pickup, etc.

Thats how it is with "Big time youtubers in general. They all either move to LA or New York to make a name for themselves

Thats why this thread is here, because Arin will become a bigger cow in the future
Look at Sargons thread, it was made years ago then exploded in 2018 when he started acting retarded creating an over 900 page thread.
These "Youtube companies" are past their prime and are in hardcore stagnation, all it takes is a little incident like: Divorcing your wife on twitter and they'll be down the lolcow spiral in no time. it will be more beneficial to have the threads up beforehand instead of after they descend into madness.

honestly Rooster teeth already deserves a thread

ProJared, his soon-to-be-ex-wife and current/soon-to-be-ex(?)-girlfriend(?) all live in the great metropolis of Seattle.

As for why normal people seem become 'tards after moving to LA/California (and maybe entire Pacific coast), it is a combination of their true selves being able to express themselves freely along with lots of degenerates promoting the retarded ideas that infects everybody else.

Jared moved to Seattle in late 2017 (with his future ex-wife) for a similar reason though, a company he was working with (Wizards of the Coast for Dice, Camera, Action) is based out of Seattle. So basically for sponsorship cash and collab opportunities, same as many YouTubers who move to Cali/NY.

Holly (Jared's side piece) moved out there for (allegedly) the same reason (and the same show) although many people now know that she moved out there to get raw dogged by Jared on the regular.
