Not only that. They're basically the worst of reddit distilled into a liquor of grug-brained smugness. They love pedophiles, ask everyone for dick pics, vow earnestly to murder, rape, or bomb people they dislike, and generally violate every rule the site claims it enforces. But since they're left-leaning they have, for quite some time, gotten away with it. They finally crossed some line (I assume the J-- one, since they harassed and were violent to people IRL before without complaint) and almost the entire moderator team of the subreddit was banned and replaced.

Maybe it's just me, but it feels a lot like Quinton's current videos have this sort of sense of self importance to them that doesn't really feel warranted. Like, I don't really mind the left wing political jokes all that much - to me there isn't much difference between Quinton referencing ChapoTrapHouse in a video and E;R making a joke about Charlottesville.

Judging by his Twitter, where he says how much it means to him that his videos have some sort of an emotional impact on people, he really sounds like he's diluted himself into thinking that his nostalgia bait videos on children's cartoons are somehow important. In theory, I think the idea of talking about the Marxist implications of some 90s TV show can be entertaining as long as your tongue is planted firmly in your cheek and you can recognize the absurdity of what you're doing.

Watching the end of his Blues-Clues video, that sort of arrogance is painfully present - and this wasn't really something that he did in the past (if anything, his early videos had a charming sense of self-loathing to them). There's actually a point in a video of him and Caleb watching the first review on his channel, where he directly says that he doesn't want to make film discussion into a moral issue, and that's really the sort of attitude someone should embrace when they're talking about media literally directed at children - Stop acting like you're profound!

Hopefully he'll pick up on that fact at some point, but I honestly doubt it now that he's trying to be "in" with that whole leftist media analysis sphere who encourage that sort of self-aggrandizing behavior.

My two cents: You are right but it goes deeper.
The fanfic writers, fanboys/fangirls and edgelords of yesterday are the gatekeepers of today. The sentiment around creators and society is one of distaste towards the evils of globalization but many are too much into their goods that refuse to recognize it as a bad thing, all they have is create a figure in their heads that ruins everything (white cis men for the social left and regressive dangerhairs for the extreme right) and pretend to keep consuming. The groups that I mentioned before are integral parts of the proccess at least on a productive level and doing this mental gymnastics is their copping mechanism.
The Internet has suffered God knows how many culture wars that revolve around reboots and remakes that are used solely as means to push the idea that there is a unifing feature to the current generation by recycling what worked in the past and pretending it is better for being made today.
