Community Munchausen's by Internet (Malingerers, Munchies, Spoonies, etc) - Feigning Illnesses for Attention

Ok I knew I would love this thread but it took me a while to get around to actually reading the whole thing. Wow. That was a trip. Anyway, recently I had to look up info about dogs to help people with epilepsy for someone I know. It immediately became apparent a dog would not help this person, but I thought people might be interested in what the epilepsy people have to say about dogs for people who have seizures. What they can and can't do, for instance. So here's a link to a website in Canada. There is a website like this for every province in Canada. I do not know the deal with the states, but it is very likely a similar deal.

http://epilepsyontario.org/living-with-epilepsy/service-dogs/

In Canada, real service dogs are trained by the Lions Foundation. I really don't know if there are other organizations that do this because if there are, they are not linked to by any epilepsy support organization that I can find. Here is the F.A.Q. on seizure alert dogs from the Lions Foundation:

The dogs can't be expected to do most of the stupid crap you see the jerks featured in this thread claiming is "work". Breaking a fall or holding you up is one thing that not only can they not do, imo, it's basically animal abuse to make them try. They can press a help button when you're at home or something like that but they can't even stop you from walking into the street or falling down stairs when your confused and when you think about it, yeah, that's to be expected as dogs are not mind readers.

TL ; DR these munchies are peddling a bunch of easily verifiable bullshit. Also I don't like animal abuse.

It's interesting because many of them are actually being treated for AN. Internet munchies lie about symptoms but they don't seem to lie about their treatments. GP is generally not treated with toobz these days. EDs are.
I'm sure the docs know it's an eating disorder. The fans and followers don't though, I think that's why they adamantly deny EDs. What are the ethics behind giving a GP dx and toobing em up so that they don't die of starvation from their ED though? Are docs at risk if they do this or are they covered by actually treating the real condishun?

In the US, doctors can lie to patients if they think the patient would refuse life-saving medical treatment otherwise. This has been tested in the courts.

I don't really agree with it ethically, but no, their doctors aren't opening themselves up to liability.

Interestingly, both anorexia nervosa and gender dysphoria are strongly correlated with autism.

I don't think most munchies have autism, because being intentionally manipulative is something autists are very bad at. If they're anything, it's Borderline.

Definitely- fragile sense of self is common to many of these disorders. Schizophrenia included (do we have any fake schizophrenic munchies or is that too hard core for ‘em?)

We used to have that shit around a lot in 2006ish, but it rapidly dropped off after 2010 (with a few exceptions of course) when people started getting called out big style. The current trends are DID, autism, and various other things but by this point I'm sure you've ran into all of these new munchie trends by now

I'd also guess that schizophrenia treatment is completely unappealing.

There are drugs to at least attempt treatment for it, so you can't just sit there and claim you have no options (autism, DID). There's no visual element to the treatment that will immediately get you sympathy points (tubes, wheelchair, lich queen vibes, take your pick). And the drugs are often pretty hardcore, and not in a fun way.

... maybe she means anti-munchausen warrior, like she's a member of r/illnessfakers or something? It is part of the general attention-seeking fraud MO to hate other frauds to try to seem legitimate by comparison.

No no, she really means munchausen's. She may be lying, which is like munchception, but she writes about faking syncope and lying to EMS, ect. She does seem young though, so maybe she'll grow out of this.

No, she means she's a munchie. She has two Instagram accounts, diaryofamunchiekid and diaryofaspooniekid. The spoonie one does not mention having munchausen but links back to the munchie account.

I'm sorry, what? I need a drink to process this.

Schizophrenia is scary. People might be sympathetic to schizophrenics in the abstract, but they don't want to be near the crazy lady shouting that the government is tracking her in the bus station. Not a good munchie choice. Mental illnesses in general are a bad munchie choice, because either they're too scary or too common--e.g. tons and tons of young women have depression and anxiety, faking that isn't making you special.
Schizophrenia is also really hard to fake. There are certain criteria that have to be met including length of time for symptoms (6 months or more) and the presence of both positive and negative symptoms—positive being active psychosis: hallucinations, delusions, disorganized speech) and negative being depression-like symptoms such as anhedonia, flat affect, trouble with daily routines such as hygiene, etc. Munchies also wouldn’t want the drugs for schizophrenia or other serious illnesses like bipolar. Antipsychotics and the like cause major weight gain and can make people feel zombie-like, and have no desirable effects like a “high.” None of that really fits with the “sick princess” image.

So you mean they can't sense your dropping blood sugar from another room and alert you to the fact that it indicates an imminent syncopal episode???!?

Most of these munchies like the super skinny aesthetic. Schizophrenia drugs are not compatible with that, being as most make you lovely and fat.

Hang on, what?

Does she not realise the first thing on this list ever so slightly undermines the second and fourth?

She's also been disscussed earlier in this thread https://kiwifarms.net/threads/munch...rers-munchies-spoonies-etc.29936/post-4009581

Seems she has some real things and then exaggerates/manufactures other stuff. Her friend has a thread here too https://kiwifarms.net/threads/abby-cappleman-abby-the-aspienaut-abbey-may-0lds0ul_abby.50100/

There are some other annoying spoonies that I hate follow, whether they're munchies or not who can say, but some have been flagged on one of the IF spin-offs or maybe a discord server.

Looks like ALF's BFF, Nina Loos, (aka assistance_dog_adventures) sure seems eager to get all the tard cum she can out of being an OTT EDS warrior. Yeah, a GoF*ckMe for $6,500 to go visit her dying grandpa is totally reasonable. And now is definitely a good time to e-beg for a $3,000 wheelchair (you don't even have a quote on yet), since you're already at it.

Fuck right off, Nina.

I alway love your little photo. Is that an Italian Greyhound? I used to have a pair.

Anyway, I guess so, but it also has clear observational and radiological indicators as it progresses, which wouldn’t be possible to fake. I guess providers don’t care enough and just want them out of their office. But, the first thing an EDS patient is usually asked or should be asked by any provider is, “WHO diagnosed you. Who else in your family has it?”
I live in a country where the medical system is a little different in a few ways from the US - a lot cheaper and more conservative basically - and here getting a false diagnosis for something that should be supported by pathology seems often to be as easy (from what I've seen of people ultimately wanting opiates usually) as 1. asking Dr 1 for an NSAID scrip or whatever for your long-standing whatever 2. Returning a couple of visits later for a letter of referral to a nearer doctor mentioning your medication and 3. In all likelihood and with a little luck now having your new diagnosis in writing for access to more effective goodies.

Anyone have any news for Morgan McCastor? I don't do Facebook anymore so I don't even have a sock account to watch her private group. Is it worth creating one for the lulz? She's such a trainwreck. Based on what I've read in the past, I'm shocked that the dad is still around. Didn't her brother get sick of her bullshit and peace out? Last I heard, she was seeking palliative care and some healthcare professional stood up to her and said she didn't need it.
