I'm surprised they're still around at all. They've been dead to me ever since they started purging pre-current-gen games from their stores. If I want current-gen I'll just buy it digitally, thanks.

Gamestop has themselves to blame, I can buy used games cheap at other stores and their policies are terrible. I hated when they keep selling used games as new especially when the disc has scratches on it or if you had a vita/switch collection/trilogy the free game voucher was gone.

Good. About damn time it dies. I've found much better deals for used games at other shops, and the other shops don't cater to the autists by shoving those re.tarded Funko Pops at you constantly.

Even though I still prefer physcial media over digital for becuase I don't completely trust it and buy used. I fucking hate gamestop and refuse to use them.
A big reason I stopped buying at GameStop was because their used games were extremely limited; at the ones I've been to, I could only buy from the previous generation, so when the PS4 rolled around all the PS2 games were gone. At least places like Ebay still sell games from the 90s.

GameStop's appeal dies the moment you try to step out of the most mainstream current console gaming, which is actually a lot smaller than one would think.

i tried to buy shimmy gimmy tensai coropata #FE DJMax Fate.Extra dancing all night「ガールフレンドをください」2 for the vita, i looked in the box and it didnt have the XXL jacket that comes with the special edition, i was gonna go back inside to ask for one, but everyone was staring at me so i started running and i fell into a puddle and i started crying, the clerk of a liquor store came out and gave me his cell phone so i could call my dad to pick me up, he gave me a bag of flaming hot cheetos too so it was pretty good, the game was shit

Obsolescence of physical media is only part of why GameStop is failing. GameStop's current model of filling the store with fucking Funko Pops and useless shit rather than actual video games would no doubt be a huge turn-off to people just wanting to buy a video game. Not to mention that shopping there is a miserable experience; the workers are all forced to sell you useless deals like GameStop's PowerUp rewards and the average customer hates having that shit piled on them when they just want to buy a game. What ends up happening is less customers go to GameStop because they're not having a pleasant shopping experience and the store sees a high turnover rate because working at GameStop is hell. @Tanner Glass also mentioned in another GameStop thread that the store managers are also fucked, being forced to work 50 hours a week, no overtime, and on holidays, as well as the complete lack of specialized training so managers don't know what the hell they're supposed to do.

I don't doubt digital media is crippling GameStop; let's face it, it is way more convenient to download a game you really want than it is to go out to a store and stand in line with sweaty nerds and screaming kids just to get that latest release you really, really want. Not to mention it's also a lot more space-efficient since you don't have to worry about game cases and CDs. That said, this article doesn't really look at the bigger picture here, as there are plenty of other reasons why people don't want to go to GameStop.

Plus their stores tend to be filthy. There's one at a nearby mall that always smells like fucking URINE.

Gamestop rips people off and is pretty damn anti-consumer. They deserve what they got coming.
This is for Babbages, for Funco Land, for Walden Software, for Software Etc., for EB games, for Planet X, and all the other franchises gamestop removed to attain it's monopoly.

And for destroying my points by turning them into 5 dollar coupons without my knowlege and then not notifying me when they expire!(They expire within 2 weeks of being issued)

I get gamestop sucks and is a horrible place but I've had mostly good experiences there and the one near by has some super nice people working so I feel super bad for the employees.

The company itself can shit a brick though, this was long overdue.

It's like I said a while back, perhaps if they got rid of those creepy ass funko pops, they wouldn't be dying such a violent death right now
Unfortunately it looks like they're going in the wrong direction -
We have a very successful pop culture and collectibles business, and this business decision represents our continued focus on growing that business through harnessing the power of greater efficiencies and strengths within our global teams.
