Tech reporter Peter Bright has been arrested for soliciting sex with children online. He was employed by Ars Technica until recently.

A federal complaint alleges that Bright sought to molest a 7- and 9-year-old and met with an undercover agent for this purpose, at which point he was arrested. It also states that Bright claimed to be in a sexual relationship with an 11-year-old. He is currently being held without bail.

According to the complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, an undercover FBI special agent made contact with Bright on KinkD, a social media fetish platform, on April 18.

Bright, using the handle “randomanon,” had responded to a message the agent posted a day prior in which she purported to be a mother seeking to connect with people who could teach her children about “birds and the bees.”

The complaint states that in subsequent messages, the agent informed Bright that she had a 7-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son.

At Bright’s urging, the two then began chatting via WhatsApp, which continued for a few weeks. At times using euphemisms, Bright reportedly wrote of molesting both children and raping the 7-year-old. He also allegedly sent pictures of his penis, and photos of test results showing he did not have any sexually transmitted diseases.

Of the countless thousands of pictures downloaded from usenet with titles suggesting that a fifteen year-old has a starring role, I don't think I've ever come across one with a genuine fifteen year-old.

Do you think that holds true of other kinds of porn? That there's "gateway porn"?

Or are you just singling out pornography involving sexually mature-but-under-some-arbitrary-age girls? I mean, 15 is perfectly legal in many parts of the world -- a reflection of the fact that a 15 year-old girl is likely sexually mature; she's designed to be attractive to sexually mature males.

In the unlikely event that I had a daughter, I would sincerely hope that by age 15 was sufficiently aware of the world as to be able to make such a decision by herself.

If you read my earlier posts in the thread, I would rather have rape laws that included a clause requiring the capacity to consent -- for everyone. An 8 year-old would almost invariably not have any capacity to consent (due to physical immaturity, lack of education, emotional immaturity), so sex with 8 year-olds would almost invariably still be illegal.

But the pictures are a distinct issue from the sex act itself.

People on the Ars Technica forums have a couple of threads discussing this.
They seem more concerned about "rightwing trolls" than what Bright has done and are asking moderators to delete his post history so that it cannot be "mined".
Also, apparently Bright had a reputation as an asshole and for advocating sex with underaged teenagers before he was made staff, but for some reason the idiots who run Ars decided to employ him and make him a moderator of their forums.
"Aurich" (aka Aurich Lawson, the Creative Director at Ars Technica) states that Bright no longer works with them but he cannot say more.

See this is why I think there is a link between serial/ritual killers, certain types of rapists, and pedophiles. The thing they all have in common is their brain damaged obsession with the act, and it's why I think chemical castration and actual castration for pedophiles wasn't successful in the past. Because it's not a sexual urge, it's a mental compulsion, something in their brains is broken. So even when they are trying to hide, they can't help but mention their crimes in passing. They can't stop thinking or talking about it. It's like they HAVE to vent, even in a private chatroom, and if left on their own, scrawled on a wall. Shit, I used to argue with this dude on Reddit way back when I was a complete sperg. I think the fundamental feature of all these specimens is the absolute lack of empathy/regard for the lives, safety, feelings, and humanity of others. Especially when it comes to them getting what they want and satisfying their urges, be they sexual fetishes, addiction, or even just lavish living.

If somebody's mentality is damaged as such, and they start having all these sickfuck fantasies and desires, the only question that will go through their minds will be "is the risk of doing this worth the gratification?" and for those stupid/desperate/uncaring enough, the answer will inevitably become "yes"
