Reminds me of this ridiculous post about a person who supposedly was paraplegic and said Skyrim was his favorite game because he could run around mountainsides and pretend his legs work. So much forced sentimentality, incredibly contrived, completely inane premise, and blatant trend surfing on a then-popular video game for the sake of precious internet points. And, like the Skyrim story, I don't buy it. Mainly because it's pathetic, but also because it's idiotic.
It's difficult to believe because it's so bizarre, but then again I've seen similar posts regarding other games with immersive worlds (i.e. VR Chat and Second Life), and those people seemed to be very serious about it. I suppose that if you don't have a lot going on for you in real life you're more susceptible to losing yourself online.
