Nah, Funimations Response was perfectly fine. Stop reading too much into it, or taking it literally as "everything said here is what they will be trying to prove". This is just a preliminary scattershot response. They have to list all the possible defenses to defamation that they may or may not choose to use at trial. They basically list off all possible defenses to defamation, whether or not they apply to the specifics of this case. Because if they don't list them now, they wouldn't be able to use them later should they find a way to make something viable. It's much the same as when Ty was explaining the need for those retraction letters under the Texas statutes. And that they require him to include even the petty and stupid stuff such as "Plaintiff is not made of feces" because failing to do so causes procedural problems later. You put in "Libel Proof" now just in case.

The Funi response is a very good response. It's what you are supposed to do. It's what it is supposed to look like. And there is nothing in that response that BHBH were not expecting to see. It's really just a summary of ways to defend against defamation claims. It's more shocking just how many potential defenses Casey missed while he was so busy referencing PULL and inserting further defamation against the Plaintiff in his actual filings.

How? There really is no Jurisdictional issue here. At least not now with the current defendants. Everyone is pretty local.

Their actual production facilities are in Texas, and the all of the employees involved were employed in Texas, The state of incorporation is irrelevant when they have a clear brick and mortar presence in Texas at the heart of the dispute.

So Ron just admitted THIS IS ALL ABOUT HUGS!. He has been accusing an actor of Sexual Assault and Pedophillia, because he hugs his fans who wait on line for a hug and an autograph. And heaven forbid he may not have gotten signed consent paperwork before hugging all of them.

I think we were all wrong. Casey didn't quit, nor was he fired. He went home and hung himself after watching Ron's Twitter feed for a week.

Yet it was specifically the actions, and the full official endorsement of those "rumors" by Funimation. that led to Mr. Mignogna's loss of work. There may have been rumors out there. But Funi published them as established fact and caused others to act on the rumors. So Funi is the root point of the defamation causing harm.

each person can take a section or look for laws that they can use giving them more time essentially however it would probably cost more.

Wasn't Funi's statement implied and not actually a statement that it was all true? Also wasn't he losing con jobs before Funi's statement? kind of forget if it was before or after, I know the VA's lead to con's dropping him though.

It makes sense for the individual parties in the case to have their own legal representation since they have their own interests (e.g., Funimation presumably wants to get rid of the idea that the other parties were acting as Funimation agents, whereas Ron and Monica would absolutely love that idea to stick around so Funimation can pay the brunt of whatever damages may occur).

As for Ron and Monica apparently having more than one firm representing the both of them: I have no earthly idea why, and honestly in my uninformed opinion it seems like a colossal waste of time and money, since now you have multiple different firms and lawyers having to convene with each other over one person's story and evidence. It just seems like it's too many moving parts that can potentially break down IMO.

Depends on your cash. If you are ungodly 'fuck you money' rich, then it's more manpower to build a case with and it makes you look like a big shot to the general public...which is the whole optics thing.

However, Ronnie and Mon arent anywhere near that rich to be able to afford multiple firms searching for fan fic writers to coax into testimony. And thats the downside: Actually paying multiple firms, because neither of them would make enough in their lifetimes to actually fund multiple firms 'discovering' a complete set of info and retaining the cooperation of 100-plus supposed victims.

So IMO/FWIW, the reality is a lot closer to "Casey got a new job and there are two firms, one of which being little more than a carryover as they were on the Atty of record paperwork."

The timeline of events as I understand them is as such (please correct me if I'm wrong and I'll fix it):

1) SJW idiots have been trying to take him down for years because he is an absolute pussy slayer, successful, and loved by everyone

2) Vic gets the lead in the English Dub of DBZ Super Brolly in January which made all the money

3) Failed YouTuber parasite MarzGurl (likely at the direction of smarter people behind the scenes) conspired with Monica, Ron, Marchi, Sabat, (likely) other Funimation/RT VAs, and an entire deep network of other people as-of-yet identified (hereafter referred to as the KickMafia but including codename Igor, Renfield, and Iago) decided to form a united front to push a "#ChangeTheChannel"-like #MeToo rumor factory to generate a consistent narrative (including all the usual tactics) to destroy Vic's life in order to elevate their own social media analytics.

4) Vic apologizes if, among the literal over 100,000 people he has likely hugged in his career, one or two people were uncomfortable.

5) An investigation is conducted by Sony through Funimation's HR department into 3 stories of Vic's alleged sexual misconduct (the Jelly Bean story is one of them) formally finding no actionable misconduct.

6) Ron Toye, Monica, Marchi and the rest of the KickMafia spread the news far and wide to numerous conventions and to publications such as i09 (Beth Elderkin) that Vic was under criminal investigation for sexual assault (in Texas this means rape) among other things. This causes numerous conventions to cancel their contract with Vic like KamahaCon.

7) Funimation severs ties with Vic "following an investigation" and states "they don't support harassment". Rooster teeth also does so at some point.. Vic seeks legal counsel sometime in late February and the original petition is filed the week of the 14th in April.

Supposedly there was discussions that they asked management prior to doing the dub to replace Vic but they proceeded with Vic. Maybe we'll hear more about it.
