I think the biggest factor for me in why I view him as a lolcow is how he seems to have "sold out" and entered a mixture of hypocrite and appealing to the WOKE!!! crowd.

Take for example his thoughts on Kubrick's adaptation of The Shining. He fucking hates it, seeing it as completely missing the point of his novel and feeling cold and sterile. While I disagree with him, I can understand why he feels that way in wanting film adaptations to stick somewhat faithful to the source.

Then we get The Dark Tower movie, something I had been dying for, as those novels mean a great deal to me. I was so psyched! Then we get Idris Elba as Roland. Elba is a good actor, but Roland is explicitly stated to be white. His skin color plays a fairly major role in the novels regarding one of his traveling companions. Voice one iota of skepticism, and you get bombarded with cries of "racist!"

When the movie (which tried cramming 8 doorstopper length novels into 90 minutes...and you better believe King shilled the fuck out of it) bombed horrifically, his big suggestion to improve it was "give Roland a hat in the next one"

The fuck???

Another case of him being a hypocrite regarding film adaptations not being faithful to the novels is the recent remake of Pet Sematary. Movie's still new so I won't go into a detailed description, but it changes a great deal and deviates VERY heavily from the book. Kubrick's movie is hot garbage but these movies are a-ok?

He's gotten into a recent revival of popularity, is raking in some serious cash and I think he just doesn't give a shit anymore about staying true to his morals. Whore out the latest movie, no matter how dreadful it is, rake in the dough and snark at "haters" who wonder what the hell happened to him.

I think there's another reason why King still holds a grudge towards Kubrick's rendition of The Shining more than any other adaption that deviates and/or shits on his work. King was supposedly going through some emotional turmoil at the time and writing The Shining was a way of trying to exorcise whatever inner demons he had. As a result, King sees Kubrick simplifying and omitting elements in the original story - most notably regarding how Jack Torrance was handled - as not only a poor adaption, but a slap in the face.

Everything else WinterMoonsLight mentioned still holds up, though.

I'm very disappointed in King as well, but I wouldn't call him an lolcow, all he's really been doing is sharing bog standard negative views about Trump.

I read his novel The Outsider last year and thought it was pretty good, even though it had a few Trump related moments, which are almost forgivable since his novels have always had contemporary references and it didn't get in the way of the story (I mean we're talking maybe two moments in the whole book), but yeah, his Twitter is a waste of time.

I think there is a genuine UK "celebrity" Lolcow in CJ de Mooi.

He used to be on the Eggheads tv quiz show as one of the panel of professional quizzers that competitors had to try and beat. He wasn't actually a pro quizzer, but got the job based on his tantrum after being voted off The Weakest Link. Here he's in the middle of the panel.

His story basically goes (warning: unreliable narrator)

- hated his home life, parents were unsupportive and abusive
- ran away to London then Amsterdam (more on that later)
- became a model after a scout "spotted" him begging for money outside a nightclub
- changed his name from Joseph Connaugh to CJ de Mooi which means "CJ the beautiful"

He eventually quit Eggheads to "concentrate on acting":

As this article alludes to, he also loves fishing for attention. In his autobiography he claimed to have possibly killed a man who tried to mug him when he was homeless in Amsterdam, necessitating the Politie to open a new case while rolling their eyes. It also basically buried his career despite being a pull for attention. (This is on Wikipedia as the actual reason he was fired from Eggheads, not the "acting career".)

Also alluded to in that HuffPo article is when he claimed the UK version of Dancing With The Stars refused to let him dance with a same-sex partner (yes he's one of those gays) so he wasn't able to be in the 2015 series. It turns out he was never asked to participate. He's pulled the same shit at the English Chess Federation of all places, of which he was once the President. He kicked up a stink about not being allowed to wear a Stonewall t-shirt on stage to present an award, but he'd never actually asked anyone if he could or not. Drama over nothing is CJ all over.

And then there was 4 years of quiet while he concentrating on his "acting career in South Africa" until ....

CJ claims he contracted AIDS as an 18 year old rent boy after running away from those horrible parents, and he's mad at the other panelists on Eggheads for not offering sympathy to his dubious claims.

A GoFundMe has since been set up to help him with legal fees after a younger man accused him of sexual assault. It's almost uncanny how he flogged his sympathy "dying of AIDS" story to the press just as this was on the verge of becoming public knowledge. What are the odds?

Slightly off-topic, but I've always been curious as to why Charlie Sheen hasn't been #MeToo'd given his insane lolcow and horrorcow antics.

You'd think he'd be the perfect low-hanging fruit for virtue-signalling given his year-long public self-destruction and several decades worth of rumors about rampant hedonism and misbehavior including accusations of pedophilia and sexual sadism, which might I add that nearly all of those accusations predate the Me Too movement and the Q-Anon conspiracy bullshit.

Plus since his career is essentially over and he's seen as more of a punchline these days, you'd think they'd finally put him out by the woodshed and put him down for good like they did with Bill Cosby.

Scientology is pretty much a lolcow cult and a lot of celebrities are involved in it, but I would not consider any of them to be lolcows solely because they are Scientologists.

Tom Cruise would count as a lolcow, but that's because of his erratic personality. All Scientology did was throw gasoline onto an already burning trash fire in that case.

Scientology is both a cult and a financial scam and they've perfected their grift on both ends of that equation.

The more you get involved in Scientology, the more money you pay into the church and the more they separate you from the rest of society. By the time you've reached the point where you learn about Xenu, you're already in too deep with your monetary payments and are likely sufficiently isolated enough to do anything about it.

A lot of the early Scientologist celebrities were likely young and impressionable actors who had a lot of problems in their personal lives and were duped into Scientology looking for answers and support.

John Travolta was one of the earliest celebrities to get involved in Scientology and IIRC, he joined the cult at a younger age than a lot of the other celebrity Scientologists from his generation.

Travolta was raised in a traditional Roman Catholic household and there were rumors of him being gay or bisexual even back in the 70's. Even in a place as liberal as Hollywood, your career would likely be ruined if you were outed back then.

Scientology has made a lot of dubious claims and one of them is that they can cure homosexuality, and they still claim that homosexuality is a psychological illness (or at least they did as recently as the Chanology autism back in the late 2000's)

Chances are that John Travolta had a lot of inner turmoil in regards to his sexuality. Between his Catholic upbringing and the very real fear of his career dying, he probably got into Scientology seeking some form of conversion therapy.

Of all the celebrity household names in Scientology, he's probably the one who would turn on them first.

Ever since his son died prematurely, it's been heavily speculated that the Church of Scientology was involved in Jett Travolta's death in some fashion. Jett was legitimately autistic and had other chronic medical issues such as seizures, so it is very likely he could have died due to Scientology's anti-psychiatry quackery (a lot of psychiatric drugs are also used to treat seizures and certain symptoms of autism

Keep in mind that this was in 2009, right in the midst of Project Chanology and all the drama that resulted from it. A lot of people were speculating that John Travolta would officially leave the church and denounce Scientology, but he did not.

My best guess is that the church has a lot of dirt on a lot of celebrities and use that to blackmail anyone who would dare to leave the church, to say nothing of the usual thought reform techniques that cults use.
