Lol not just catholics, but pretty much every religious organization. mixed-gender camps or retreats usually have colored name badges- blue for boys, red for girls, etc- and "purpling" or whatever was strictly forbidden. guys and girls weren't even supposed to go off alone together, youth or leadership or not. i went to one camp where they weren't really strict on it and three girls got preggo.

As someone who used to be an adult chaperone for an annual youth (church) group retreat, I can confirm something similar tends to be the general rule for overnight or weekend retreats. While boys and girls weren't discouraged from interacting during the day at this specific retreat, they weren't permitted to be draped all over each other or be in so close of a physical proximity that it looked like they were purpling or about to. Furthermore, the sleeping area was off-limits during the day and set up in a way that the area was unnecessary to be in during the day apart from specific exceptions, such as needing a shower after outdoor or gym activities. Also, boys' rooms and girls' rooms were on opposite ends of the hallway to make it easier for the chaperones to keep everyone in the proper rooms once lights out was called.

Only once over the years did we have an issue where a bed check revealed two missing girls. It only became an issue because the boy whose room they were in denied they were there when he had hidden them in the shower. Unfortunately for him, their shadows were plainly obvious through the frosted shower door once we opened the bathroom door. Had the girls been in plain view doing nothing inappropriate with their mixed company, the girls likely would have been told sternly to get back to their room and stay there for the night. Instead, they got sent home early and missed the last portion of the retreat.

In terms of Bex's story, it might have been possible to have a cuddle pile if her youth group had little to no supervision and/or took advantage a dark area that was difficult to monitor. Given her track record of exaggerating and making up stories to fit her narrative of the day, however, I'd feel confident putting this story in with the "Crap that Didn't Happen" category.

So let me get this straight. We should never call the police on someone attempting suicide, because they might wind up killing themselves, even though without intervention they were going to do that anyway. Becky apparently had the police called on her and they made her feel bad and... she’s not dead? So... it worked? Even though they were assholes, the same kind of cartoonish assholes she seems to keep meeting in every walk of life?

I don’t even know where to begin with her medical bullshit. So we only need doctors for complex conditions. How will that work? How will your dangerhaired GP with a doctorate from Wikipedia know the difference between a migraine and a brain tumour? Or indigestion pains and a heart attack? Flu and meningitis? What’s the local wise woman going to do about, say, a broken leg? How will we know that Dr Google actually knows medicine and isn’t just pretending they’ve read up? What’s to stop some perv claiming to be a gynaecologist?

Becky is a privileged middle class white girl who’s never had any real difficulties in her life that weren’t self-induced. What she wants from her doctor is reassurance that she’s the specialest flower and should have whatever she wants. Let’s see how keen she is for community healthcare when the diabetes hits.
