Artcow Ken Penders - Former Archie Sonic Comic Writer/Artist

So how has/good is the new Sonic Comics? Because that would be the best punishment if I was better than anything his fat ass can come with bonus if it is making a profit
It's pretty good. They got a way better writer than the dudes actually writing the games amusingly enough.

Our boy Ken is at it again!

"What did I do wrong? All I did was completely and financially ruin a comics company over a frivolous law suit and completely fuck over my supposed friends movie pitch because I was jealous. Amongst other things."
kek, this should be interesting to watch.

Archive, in case this sped deletes his tweet.
I've got a hunch the fleetway comics are less "unable to be reprinted" because of the creators not signing away the rights to the characters (which from what i've seen of them are mainly just sonic characters to begin with) and more to do with the fucking insane shit contained within them like Tails being tempted into going through with a fucking JFK style assassination attempt on Robotnik with a REAL ASS FUCKING GUN BY A GOD DAMN MAN WITH A UNICORN HEAD WHO COMES IN OUT OF FUCKING NOWHERE.

What the fuck were the Brits smoking?

Now I gotta see this...

This is art.

The only reason he got so far in Sonic in the first place was because the franchise at that point still had a TON of things that needed filling in, and Sega didn't really care about the comic until after Ian Flynn took over at issue #161. (It was implied in #160 that Anti-Sonic had sex with Bunnie, who thought he was the real Sonic, thus constituting as rape, and requiring a hasty, and I mean hasty edit of a panel where she talks about their "nap". That didn't sit well with Sega at all, naturally.)

he likes to say how he constantly fought the man and was railroaded and blocked at every turn, but the reality of it is that he was so awful, the editor at the time had to shove Shadow in on the cover a lot just to keep sales up, since everyone was getting rightfully sick of his love-triangles, poorly executed plots, melodrama, and NUMEROUS plotholes while shilling the Echidna's to hell and back, while at the same time treating characters he didn't like as MASSIVELY ooc, like Rouge.
I’d like to know more about the controversy of issue 160, did SEGA fire Penders over the sex implication between Bunnie and Nega-Sonic? Was this the only reason or was this the last straw that broke the camel’s back?

Ken didn't get fired, he quit. Archie was doing some corporate clean up and brought in Ian Flynn as head writer which mean Ken got demoted. He gave Archie an ultimatum: He stays head writer or he leaves.
Archie gave an appropriate response:
bye felicia.gif

It did lead to Sega being more restrictive on the comics overall though. Like Sonic not being allowed to cry or lose. Ian had to fight to get that issue where Eggman just cleans house by promising Sonic would win in the next issue.

As far as potential reprints go, it should be pointed out that IDW, the current publisher of Sonic, has rereleased the Archie run of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I imagine that there probably is some interest from Sega's marketing and brands department for such a thing, but having to work with Penders pretty much means it will never happen

Wait he's gonna sell actual issues of Archie Sonic and it's legal? How the hell does this work?

And I guess some hardcore Sonic comic fans might get it, but that's about it. There's nothing redeeming about M25YL beyond that.

he has 'lawyers' according to that twitter post. I'm not sure how it's legal but whatever.

I don't see much cash coming to him for publishing it. He's going to waste money.

Sonic's canonically 15. The thing that most people forget however is Amy's 12. When she first appeared she was 8 and aged four years in a redesign for Sonic Adventure. Hell, Sally Acorn is 17 in the comics.
I'm pretty sure sonic started out as 15, was aged up to 16 for sonic adventure outside the comic which was then slipped back into the comic and sally herself was 15 throughout

Oh jeez, i'm getting vietnamese flashbacks of that Knuckles comic strip he made. It was so convoluted and complicated, gave Knuckles 10000+ new relatives, and had that eerie focus on romance as if Penders was a raging virgin who vented all his romance-related complaints on the comic.

Nothing would make me happier then if Ken Penders tried to sue the makers of the Sonic movie if he thinks that story elements intrude on his original stories (don't steal) like he did with BioWare over Sonic Chronicles. Alas, I don't even think Penders is that delusional

He probably thinks the design of sonic was inspired by his artwork. I mean it legit looks like Ken Penders art if it was realistic.

Did people ever get legit angry at Penders? I never read the Sonic comics: they were before my time. However, I fucking love seeing this idiot fall into blunder after blunder and all by his own doing. It’s beautiful! Why get so mad? Lol

I'd say I've seen far more people get angry at Flynn for ruining their "deep and meaningful" comics, as well as getting rid of the Freedom Fighters even though Flynn is just a writer, which means that he's not completely responsible for everything that happens in there.

Some even made a big deal over Sonally not being canon in these comics due to Sonic not being able to have a love interest. But honestly, out of all the mandates, I could easily see why they decided to make Sonic celebate in the first place. It seemed to be due to all the insane shipping wars over the years (e.g. Sonamy, Sonally, Sonadow etc.). In other words, I'm pretty sure they just didn't trust the fanbase to not get in stupid flame wars over shippings by that point.

Nope. the blame for the massive, series-breaking changes is actually Archie..they lost the lawsuit they started, and decided to fuck over the fans by deleting years worth of Penders works. What's funny is that he is on-record saying that "Look, I just want credit for my contributions when they're used.." Literally a few letters on the front page of any comic that uses his works..that's all they had to do...some INK.. They got butthurt that they lost the lawsuit they thought they could win by default, and like petulant children, took the ball and stabbed it before walking off like a schoolyard bully who got remanded by their parents for bullying the little kid on the playground.

Flynn had to come in and try to work with that shit. He had to try and reboot the series without any of Penders works, whicch wasn't easy, and the comic failed for several reasons, including the reboot..
