Marvel gets away with what it does not because Disney is causing it, but rather because Marvel is the mechanism by which Disney cheaply deals with an expensive problem. Ike Perlmutter. See Ike is the dude who sold Marvel to Disney. Part of that sale involved non cash compensation. Preferred stock and a seat on Disney’s board among other gotchas. Ike is a weird penny pinching nuisance to the Hollywood and theme park types. But I’ve seen estimates that getting rid of him would be incredibly expensive for the Mouse. So they wall him off in his little fiefdom. Marvel Entertainment. Ike doesn’t give 2 shits about comics. He rather hates them. So he slashes the budget and let’s the inmates run the asylum. The only real purpose of the funny books is to constantly refresh the IP of every character in the library. (Creating new is a happy accident, and less desirable due to new creative contracts. They have to payout more in royalties for more modern characters.) Ike is a toy maker and merchandising guy. He makes Marvel’s money via licenses and merchandising. Marvel Entertainment is a loss leader that doesn’t even count as a rounding error to Disney’s accounting. Marvel isn’t going anywhere because it serves a non obvious purpose to the Mouse.

RoosterTeeth however serves no such purpose to AT&T Time Warner. The new CEO is AT&T’s. A major cost cutter who has little taste for the creative arts and the tomfoolery of the creative types. He doesn’t watch cartoons, certainly not anime stuff. DC Comics already is directly under LA WB’s direct control. Like Marvel they serve a purpose in refreshing DC’s billion dollar merchandising empire. Rooster Teeth has no such function. They are rapidly bleeding upper management, who see the writing on the walls. They have already been rolled into the Warner Media group. Pooled with Cartoon Network and a number of other animation focused sub units. They will be quickly merged and carved down while being enslaved to a hastily cobbled together streaming service. Whatever remains of them will end up in LA, because nobody working for Warner in Texas has any internal political clout or hope of surviving the oncoming corporate game of thrones. As hundreds of WB subunits fight to be the one left standing.

Pretty much, contrary to popular belief Disney is pretty hands off with it's subsidiaries likely because it's afraid of killing it's golden gooses.

The one time they've meddled in Marvel's affairs was spinning off Marvel Studios to keep Permutter's penny pinching ass from hurting the movies and it took Solo bombing and merchandise sales being in the toilet since The Last Jedi before they started "monitoring" Lucasfilm's progress on Episode IX.

Also like any "holiday" you're not actually under any obligation to celebrate it when other people are celebrating it. For instance, if Valentine's day is on some shitty Wednesday, why wouldn't you just wait until the weekend to go out for a nice dinner?

I remember an old video of a YouTuber calling out YellowFlash for using the term AnimeGate for this as it wasn't a true gate since nobody was really in control and censoring and covering up stuff...in the public eye. I'll put my tinfoil hat on (not what you think) but let's say behind the scenes in the dubbing industry this has been going on for a long, long time and nobody could really do anything or risk it. You know they already tried covering it up with the perfect alibi: Funimation makes a claim Vic sexually harasses people, he's dropped from a bunch of cons, and then let the hate mob takeover from there. The normal person wouldn't look into it as A) they don't care and B) the much termination usually does mean he did something really bad. Probably could get away with 15-20 of those before people go "Now wait a minute, something ain't right here" when people really fought back definitely with not as much momentum as there'd be 50-75% of the fans even left.

So continuing with my tinfoil hat, I don't think Casey is as incompetent as we think (he DID have to pass a bar exam) and I think we all know he has no chance in hell of winning. What if he's trying to do what Nick is and fueling the Twitter battle. It doesn't really matter what he does so long as it creates a bit of fuel to rile people up which would explain PULL being the first citation. Right now he's probably just trying to buy time so that Funimation doesn't settle and then pin all of this on them to avoid the bulk of the settlement costs. Probably why he wanted to file the TCPA after Vic's deposition to delay it longer. I almost am positive this is stalling which yikes I hope Toye makes enough to pay those hella expensive legal fees to do this.

I think we're going to have to pick our poison here: have Funimation take the near full brunt of the hit paying for most of it while the others get minimum consequences or have Funimation get off a little bit easier and settles very quickly while the people who caused all the damages really feel the sting of their actions. I really wish we had connections to get messages (such as Nick's from yesterday's livestream) to them as we all know Funimation will be around regardless of any outcome and we all really want to see Rial, Soye, and Marchi burn in the fire they set off.

Most Western VAs dont even record lines for scenes on the same day, Sean was the only one at that studio over Kamehacon weekend doing the lines for 100-101. As for Vic returning as Broly: It would be a huge olive branch from Funimation, but we know they're not going to do that because they've probably got some VA/friend of a VA already ear marked for Broly's return when Dragonball comes back.

I say get rid of the vermin first and let FUNI get rekt if they continue to fuck around after this mess. There are still good people at FUNI and it's not fair that they get shit as well, Vic wouldn't feel happy about it.
