If you read manga online, you might have been affected by a recent slapfight between Mangadex and a couple of scan groups.
I think this is highly entertaining and seems like it'll only get increasingly funny.

Characters:
Bato.to: now-defunct site where most groups uploaded their translated scans
Mangadex: basically the new Batoto
Jaimini's Box: a scan group that does One Piece and other highly popular Shonen Jump titles
Other scan groups:
  • Hatigarm Scans
  • Meraki Scans
  • Facepalm
  • Other irrelevant characters
January 2018
Batoto announces that it's shutting down. I don't remember the explanation why, but it was probably something about money.
Mangadex is created. Uploaders flock to the site to replace the 7TB library that was formerly on Batoto.

March 2018
Jaimini's Box members complain to MD about how their scans were being uploaded without their permission (they previously did not upload to Batoto, they host their own site).
There is a shouting match, and eventually it is agreed that there would be a 2-week delay for their uploads, or all of their chapters are to be removed.
MD agrees, and although forum posters are assmad about the delay and insult JB for the delay (they could just go to any other aggregator website) things stay relatively stable.

January 2019
Facepalm starts competing with Hatigarm to release the same manga. Hatigarm formerly uploaded at a pace of one chapter a month, whereas Facepalm put out chapters every day, embarrassing Hatigarm's slow pace.

May 2019
Facepalm eventually amps up their antagonizing of Hatigarm Scans for taking donations [via Patreon], going as far as to call it a scam. It culminates in this image:
x15.png
Meraki Scans (friends with Hatigarm), gets butthurt, and starts complaining about 'toxic users', where MD forum hotpockets tell them to take it up with Facepalm instead of shitting up the forums.
Meraki and Hatigarm are furious. Both groups delete all of their chapters.

June 11 2019
There is a big post on the MD forums (archive) about various scan groups all deleting their chapters from MD. They cite ongoing harassment and point to screenshots that suggest that the MD site admin "wants to go legit like Crunchyroll and Fakku". This is touchy history about old big fan sites going legit and then going litigious on people. Some commenters lose their minds.
Several scan groups pull out:
  • Meraki
  • Hatigarm
  • Champion Scans (irrelevant to this garbage fire)
  • Jaimini's Box
  • some other irrelevant groups
The name that sticks out here is Jaimini's, because they are unaffiliated with the 2019 drama and MD had formerly assumed they had a functional working relationship.
This image gets posted, revealing a possible motivation for some of those groups to be pulling out:
mangadex_group_donations.jpg

It turns out that every group that pulled out had a Patreon. Jaimini's in particular gets called out because their site also has crypto miners, as well as how they seemingly have conections in Japan to get the newest One Piece before the Japanese even get to read it. (Note that leaking One Piece is something that puts people in jail) They also note a cost of $55 per week for doing this even though a WSJ magazine costs less than $5.
All of these groups' chapters get pulled (supposedly comprising of less than 1% of the total MD library), and nothing really happens for 4 days.

Happening now: a flood of spam accounts that is basically a ddos. Wonder who the culprit is! 🤔

Then they could learn Japanese, study for a valuable and sought after job in Japan and move there. Who's stopping them, right guys?!
I seriously do not suggest living in Japan. There are a shit ton of paper work for taxes and a whole bunch of stuff you have to declare to your city hall. Japanese healthcare is nice, but the prescription medications are always at an averate of 20 to 80 mg only tho. For some Americans, I think the dosage they prescribe here might not be effective. Also I hope you enjoy walking everywhere because most of the country is not ADA compliant and most places don't even have wheelchair access. Japan is a nightmare for cripples.

Every single rational non-weeb vlog I've seen on moving to Japan has been negative. Absolute torture for no reward if not the location and views. If you watch NoClip's documentary on FFXIV, even the white dude who is now a big player in Square Enix's community interactions, started out as a generic english teacher. You know, the one thing every person moving there has to offer. You could learn IT at University of BigEgo in America, move to Japan, get a proper job and proper pay (suicidal work ethics involved), and have a happy life.

But no, they want to fetishize teaching a cute asian kid and get drunk on the weekends like their favorite anime character. Outside China, and that's just guessing, I'd say Japan is the least worthwhile Asian country to move to, and even now the anime industry is starting to whistleblow on how ~50% of all anime staff is living partially on the money of their parents. And that's ignoring all the salary men making 1/3 what they would outside of Japan.

It's a xenophobic, racist country with no redeeming qualities but its geography. And yknow, even Europe has a lot of cherry tree festivals, but that's not enough for our dear weebs, regardless of how every anime has some involvement with European culture or naming standards; clearly aware of its superiority.

Old but gold clip in glorious 240p of a man known as Davido Kun. Two Japanese comedians happen upon our hero David and hilarity ensues.

I am going to show you my power level.

I used to be a weeb back in JR high and the start of high school. Before I graduated high school, I kind of out grew/lost interest in anime and Japan. When studying other cultures, I realize that no country is perfect. Norway and Canada may seem like a utopia, but they have their fair share of problems too. I still appreciate anime, Japanese culture, literature, and history but I will never move to Japan. I learned that Japanese people are very sexist and racist but still admire their creativity. The irony is that Asians love Western culture and wish they were white. I guess the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

The theory on weaboos is that they latch on to Japanese culture because they are rejects in the west. News flash Japan airs the same amount of anime on TV as America which is only once a week.

this faggot doesnt know how nuclear bombs work
If I'm not mistaken, that weeb is a gay Twitter artist from Indonesia who drank bleach because of the homophobia within his country. I wouldn't be surprised if his nuke comment was because of whatever shit there within the government of Indonesia.

Indonesian weeb ranting about religion, government, or culture. How typical.

And, on the subject of Indonesian weeb:

ROUGH TRANSLATION:
"I want to leave Indonesia. The problem is, I'm suffering here. There are not many anime (anime is not cartoon), no manga, the culture is boring, most Indonesian people are jerks.

As for Japan, there's so many anime, people sell manga everywhere, the girls are cute, not mentioning the kind people of Japan.

I regret living in Indonesia :3

Who else agree with me??? :v :v :v"

The post itself is quite old, but it sums up weeb behaviour quite nicely.

I always have this in mind when encoutering a weeb:
