Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Got bored one day and watched a documentary on Ray Harryhausen. That got me down a well of looking into stop motion and claymation. I have been watching Wallace and Grommit and Shaun the sheep cause of it. Gonna look into O'Brian's work now too.

I envy you! You should also checkout the work of Ladislas Starevich, Jiří Trnka, Will Vinton, The Brothers Quay, Garri Bardin, Jan Švankmajer and Adam Elliot.

Vaclav Svankmajer (Jan's son) also does some good work. You should definitely seek out The Torchbearer (Svetlonos.) Here's a clip of it on Youtube, but you might be able to find the entire 22 minute short there. (It tends to get yanked by the Copyright Police and then reposted a lot...)

I recently caught a couple of new episodes of The Jellies, and I actually like it. I think Debbie Jelly is my favorite character.

Don't know whether to put this here or in the Disney thread but is there any particular reason why Marvel Animation's gone to complete shit in the last two years?

Avengers Assemble: Black Panther's quest looked horrendous compared to the previous seasons.

If I had to guess, it's whoever is overseeing the Marvel Animation team itself. They farm to the cheapest Korean houses (which is odd given Dr. Movie, one of said contractors, has done better Marvel productions in the past like X-Men Evolution and Hulk Vs.) while also overdoing it on the CGI and generic character designs.

As a whole, it's a step down from Disney's own in-house studio. Which considering it has mixed reception with regards to the style and animation of its own shows (Star Vs., DuckTales '17, BH6: The Series), is saying something.

Dear god..the art style, motions, color and shading..all make me want to puke...Then they make me want to cut off the fingers of the people who animated it, then gouge out the eyes of the people who watched it and liked it, and then cry that I was the only one who knew something was wrong.
Yes, it's that horrible.

7 years, and it barely looks any better than the unfinished version did.

Does it even look better at all? The concept art looked better. In the context of it being "finished" it looks worse.

There's also the complete lack of anything resembling funny. And the not very veiled allusions to pedophilia in the George Liquor character. And needless, overdone scat humor, because lol shit.
