It does seem odd, at first. But then you have to remember, Labelle isn't trying to realistically portray life as a transgender person in Canada, he's trying to convince people that he's still oppressed. Labelle hasn't ever been beaten up, and if you have to have someone get beat up to show they're oppressed, that would mean Labelle isn't oppressed. That doesn't stop him from making up a multiple-choice backstory to get more victim points, but that's about his personal struggles, not trans people in general.
Labelle is trying to realistically portray a situation where microaggressions are common and harmful enough that society needs to actively step in to stop them. It's an incredibly tough sell to anyone who hasn't drank the social justice kool-aid, but a competent writer could probably even pull that off. Unfortunately for Labelle, he's not a competent writer.
