It's sanctimonious to go from laughing at some other loser ruining their life non-fatally to then extol the virtues of a robust mental health system because some shizo jumped off a bridge.

While it's true that, the longer I've been on here, the less I think certain incredibly mentally ill cows deserve their threads, I think the general idea of this forum is to laugh at people who are their own undoing. Assholes, even criminals, who get away with doing terrible stuff for years, who post embarrassing shit about the ways they're slowly ruining their own life. I think the reason the Etika situation has people so shaken up is due to a couple of things. First of all, Etika hadn't really done anything terrible until the last year or so, and even then he didn't really hurt anyone. A lot of people liked him, or at least knew of the memes of him. When he started acting weird, people just kind of thought it'd go on like this forever. Another e-celeb high off their own fame. We've seen it a million times, I don't think anyone predicted it would have such a hard, sudden turn, in such a short amount of time.

Not to mention, I'd say there are a handful of people with threads here the world would be better off without, but Etika wasn't one of them. Etika is probably one of the least offensive people we've had a thread on.

Come on, you're pissing off at a single statement on a discussion that'd better be suited for Deep Thoughts anyways.
Not really. The whole point is that people are using mental health as some buzzword cureall. It isn't.
It's just cope for feeling guilty about making fun of someone who died.
Spergery, anxiety, addiction, paranoia ect. ect. are all mental health and are a staple for ridicule in threads.

Which is wrong. Mental health doesn't occur or recur. Every individual is in a state of wellness and dysfunction. What you're calling mental health is a pretty name for certain commonly dysfunctional factors in modern society.
Hearing voices back in the day was connecting with the spirits or being a holy saint after all. Psychologically speaking, context is everything. It's why atheiests aren't allowed to call people who believe in religion mentally ill. Definitionally as long as a large, sustainable, group of people can act in a certain way, that way isn't considered dysfunctional or an illness.
If the DSM was to diagnose people who acted like cunts with asshole disorder they wouldn't be infected with mental illness all of a sudden.
1) I don't feel like reading because it's the wrong board

I had no idea who the fuck this guy was, so I can't say I'm particularly choked up about his death. I'm sorry about how his suicide must be affecting his family. I'm regretful he didn't get the help he needed. A quick perusal of his info tells me he had some legit mental illness issues and wasn't just attention whoring.

Weirds me out that anyone here cares that much tbh. We didn't know him, we barely even knew him as a lolcow. Like if someone's a fan of his content I can get being a little bummed but this dude was one of the hundreds of people a day who become an hero. Virtue signalling about how sad this is isn't gonna bring a nigga back, and it doesn't make you a better person either.

It's not because it's Etika specifically, just his circumstances. Death effects people in weird ways, especially someone so young, you know? Personally I just think it's sobering when an internet personality dies in general. Not super emotionally sobering or anything, but enough to get me to think about it for a moment. Eventually, a ton of internet content will belong to the dead. The majority of it, even, if things are archived and passed around enough.

People who kill themselves wind up in Hell.

Maybe he repented before he hit the bottom. That, and we don't even know where we end up because it's sorta out of our paygrade.

(...I'm not sure how much of this is trolling.)

Hearing voices back in the day was connecting with the spirits or being a holy saint after all.

The difference between that and schizophrenia is that the voices are more organized and aren't telling you to kill yourself every other second.

I don't understand why so many people in this thread seem to think that it's impossible to both appreciate Etika as a lolcow and be saddened by his death. His mental health completely fell apart in a frighteningly short amount of time and pretty much everybody who made a serious effort to help him was just pushed away by him. Watching mental illness claim somebody in real time is pretty depressing. Still doesn't mean that I can't find his antics amusing or laugh at jokes at his expense. That "GAME!" image in particular is fucking hilarious.
