The second the US government starts a civil war with its populace is the second it ceases to exist as a state. What percentage of soldiers, sailors and airman would fire on their countrymen? What percentage of those would openly revolt, and how much war material would they take with them.

Of the tens of millions of armed civilians, only a tenth of those have to be even remotely competent and willing to fight to outnumber the entirety of the standing armed forces as a whole, a force where half of its members aren’t even trained primarily as infantry, but as mechanics and in other support roles. The rest of the armed populace just have to be willing to arm and supply the remaining unarmed percentage of civilians willing to fight. In terms of leadership, what percentage of rebelling soldiers are officers or NCO’s with combat experience? They would number in the fucking thousands. And that’s not even considering foreign backing from China or Russia.

Sure the armed forces are more sophisticated than they were. But against a force that large, made up of Americans, where very casualty drives public opinion in favor of the rebels and appalls the international audience? Keep in mind that the US fought an insurgency a fraction of the size of what a US civil war would produce, and spent most of the time losing, and that was against an enemy no one gave a fuck about, not their own countrymen.

A United States populace in open rebellion would be an impossible nightmare even for the US armed forces at full strength. What good are drones when you’re being asked to use them against your mailman? What good are tanks when your being asked to drive them over American schools and supermarkets?
