Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

I haven't seen all of them (most of the ones I haven't seen are more recent, like Home) but IMHO the best, or my favorite, Dreamworks movie is Kung Fu Panda 2. As much as I unironically like Shrek and think Shrek 2 is great specifically the Kung Fu Panda trilogy is better overall.

Not sure if this counts as an "unpopular opinion" so I put it in this thread.

I just remembered this existed.

Is it worth going back too? @Uncanny Valley you are the cartoon sperg I know best on this site, your thoughts?

So, umm...

The thing is, that...

Just....just look.

Annndddd..... No thanks. I'm just waiting for the rest of Young Justice S3 to drop, honestly. All I know is that the cartoon "community" on the net is in full-on Apocalypse mode from this, I'm sure.

So, has anyone seen Amphibia, yet? I've actually been enjoying that, so far, while everyone else (thankfully not here) is pretty much melting down over this BS, right about now.

The state of mainstream western animation compared to the state of Japanese anime, western animations have it easy with their all female unions and whatnot.
Western animation needs music...

a very special kind of music...

Onto season 2. The first season had this really ugly art style that actually helped quite a lot. Everyone look like clay and had super long portions, which I guess is for the whole alien vibe. They cut that back on season 2, but I think they also did it to make everything easier to animate because its better and more fluid across the board. Not a bad little series thus far, really enjoying it.

Really enjoying Young Justice right now. The only shows to come out of the whole reboot/comeback movement was that and Ducktales. And I wasn't even a ducktales fan.

As for Amphibia, I'm also enjoying it as well. Simple and effective writing. It reminds me a lot of shows like Chowder and Mike, Lu & Og (Would that show be considered offensive this day and age?).

So far some of the new stuff coming out doesn't seem like knockout hits, but have some decent talent and I hope this will help open door to new creators and better content.

Cuphead is getting a cartoon.

Eh... Tbat's some good news, as long as it turns out to be funny. I will watch to see just how much I hopefully laugh, too.

To be fair, after Hilda and Harvey Street Kids winning me over, besides some other shows, I trust Netflix to do a good job on this - well, especially for fans of the game, anyway.

Noticed this was up on Vimeo already! I saw this many years ago on PBS and enjoyed learning about the life of this animator who most may remember for his "Teeny Little Super Guy" segments on Sesame Street! You kinda feel sorry for the shit we had to go through during his turbulent life as the son of a Czech foreigner born in Japan.

EDIT: Had to notice this...

Heavy Metal (the movie) is so fucking cool.

It was the first "adult animation" I saw, years before I knew anime was a thing.

And what's funny is it has a leg up over anime, since it can show pubic hair, kinda funny to think of western animation getting away with something anime can't.
Just how standards were then! Probably helped Heavy Metal was a popular magazine at the time.
