That's a rather uncontroversial opinion, but I agree. Wanting to kill cops because they're cops is insane.
I know, it's not at all a ridiculous position to hold. Unless you live in clown world, and we do. So it's fucked.
I have a lot of respect for the job- and it's a job I considered at one point, but the emotional toll it can take on a person like me is something I didn't want to deal with.
That doesn't mean I agree with every law and think every lawman is a good guy. It also means I'm fully aware that a lot of cops are just dudes trying to do a job that is, as a concept, a respectable job that society needs- and they do so without gratitude because there's no shortage of shit-heads with a sense of entitlement that are ass-mad because they got a DUI, got caught stealing, or otherwise did something objectively stupid and morally wrong. And I'm also fully aware that there are assholes out there with badges that couldn't hack it in the military, but think they're SF Operators and get off on fucking up someone's day and look for an excuse to beat or slump [insert generalized group of your choice].
Yeah, the cops being used to drag in dissenters to help the dems push bullshit through using emergency powers is not good. The cops themselves didn't seem to be fans of the idea either. The talk of "Well if they want to drag me out of my house they better bring the big guns" wasn't a fucking threat, obviously, but it serves as a reminder, hey, the governor is trying to have the cops drag politicians to rubber stamp bullshit legislation. Oh and the dems on the governer's side, who are so horrified by the republican's actions, actually did this themselves previously. Even if
@Feline Darkmage wants to call it a lie, there are links to that fact in this very thread.
And that, honestly, is the problem. When an elected official blatantly says "I'm going to use my position to make lawmen force people into compliance with I want, without consideration for the very citizens that I am oath-bound to serve"- yeah, that's a pretty good reason for you to at least lean over to your firearm and make sure it's in good working condition. It's setting a terrifying precedent that is the exact fucking reason that our Founding Fathers wrote that Second Amendment. I'm not even trying to go "MOAN LABIA NO STEP ON SNEK" here, it's just the fact.
If the possibility of a large group of guys with rifles scares the shit out of cops and politicians so much that they step back from the action that got the "militia" riled up in the first place... then the system is working as intended, this is a feature and not a bug.
I'm pretty sure that had those officers known that these guys were willing to load up and go there, those officers may have been filling out transfer papers or calling in sick. I can tell you, most cops are fully aware that we do have plenty of armed citizens, and their underfunded police department provides them with mediocre gear to deal with that threat- and there's no fucking way their paycheck is worth that kind of threat, especially if it's all just some Portlandfag governor that's the root of the problem. Hell, this is one of those things that even the National Guard would raise an eyebrow at- "Protect me from the citizens, I need to force a law!" is one of those orders that might have turrets doing a 180... it's not like Oregon's National Guard is a buch of Portlandfag Hipsters. It's those farm-boys and backwoods bumpkins that needed a bit of help making the note on their pickup truck.
Sorry to people who just want to laugh at The_Donald in community watch, someone dropped a news story on top of your funtime club and we're having an awkward crossover episode in here...
The_Donald has some fucktarded rules, for certain. However, quarantining them is another Alex Jones incident on a smaller scale. People can laugh now if they want, but doing so is basically grabbing your ankles and falling for 'just the tip' from Tyrone.
