The same thing happened a while back with merging a discussion about vaccination and possible dangers of making them mandatory with future vaccines that may not be as safe or necessary being merged with a thread for shitting on antivaxxing facebook moms.

I can see how it looks like the same subject, but it's such a different context and either one of the two discussion topics end up winning, alienating the other group (and effectively ending one discussion), or both discussions are disrupted and it just becomes a trashfire.

I get that it's an organizational choice to merge and prune threads and it keeps the forum neater, but sometimes it's a shame inhibiting discussion. Perhaps it's also done intentionally to prevent some discussions, but I haven't seen enough examples to believe that.
