Is it worth the risk of him fucking up her case?

If she wins, she's probably going to win a pretty good chunk of money. Paying her lawyer $25k instead of $10k will practically be a rounding error.

If she has a bad case it doesn't matter if the lawyer gets 90% of whatever is awarded because it's so unlikely to win. As I said there's a possibility that the case itself is just bad and it doesn't matter how good the lawyer is. As Nick has pointed out on stream, the individual skill of your lawyer is only minor factor in the grand scheme of things. If the neither the facts or the law are on your side, there isn't a lot a more skilled, knowledgeable, or experience lawyer will be able to do about it.

For example, suppose that Melinda Scott were to hire a lawyer instead of trying to represent herself. Do you believe that she'd suddenly have a significant chance of winning a lawsuit? Sure the results might be much less exceptional but it doesn't even approach even odds of winning in court.

I haven't read anything else to know if this is the situation. But as I said, something like this doesn't happen without reason. A court clerk should be able to select a competent lawyer better than the average person. If she picked Greg then that's a red flag for something being out of the ordinary. I came up with three possible explanations for it:

1) She's greedy (and potentially thinks she has a slam dunk case) so whoever will litigate it cheapest is chosen to represent her.
2) She's actually incompetent and has hired Greg because she's unable to tell a good lawyer from a bad one.
3) She has a case that's essentially impossible to win and no lawyer with other prospects will work on contingency or without payment up front.

There are possibly other explanations as well, but those just seem like a good starting point.

If you have a bad case/no case and you know it, why not save money by hiring a shitty lawyer? You're planning on settling, and if you do end up fighting it out you won't win anyway. I wonder if this person has other lawsuits, all of which were mysteriously dropped or settled out of court?

If you have a bad case/no case and you know it, why bother hiring any lawyer?

In fact, why not settle to begin with?

...yes, Greg, I-- I think Tekko's current management is aware of that, and is in fact answering to that by saying that they have no such records and that no records of that kind were passed on to them by the previous management.
Shhhh, let the man-child live out his fantasy. It's his make-a-wish request before they pull the plug on his CPAP machine.

It's robbery with lawyers instead of guns. Going to court is so expensive, and time-consuming, and stressful, and mysterious, that lots of people will simply settle to avoid it even if they could win. There's an entire class of scumbags who trade on this fact to make dishonest living.

He's an utter moron and his concentrated stupidity is doing nothing but making the kickvic side look even worse than it already did.
Is it possible to be disbarred for having the intellect of a dead flea?

Lawyers can have various views on the legal merits of the lawsuit. Fine. But now this "lawyer" has gone far beyond legal analysis into encouraging lunatics to come up with bizarre heresay stories to destroy a man. Surely at this point it is obvious to anyone remotely professional this guy is not interested in anything legal but instead has a strange personal obession. Imagine getting in bed with disturbed mental patient manjaw to settle a personal score.

Honestly I have more respect for ambulance chasing lawyers because they sometimes do something good.
