Wonder how the Portland cop rank-and-file feel about this? I remember reading that the stand-down in Berkeley damn near caused a revolt among the badges there.

The police should just go on strike in Portland until the mayor's office lets them do their job. And if they decide to fire the whole police department then it isn't like there aren't a lot of better police departments around the country (or even in Oregon!) where the police can do their job and don't have to work insane amounts of overtime because they can't get enough officers for various reasons.

If Antifa want anarchy, then that's exactly what they should get. Or more likely they'll just get to meet the jackboots from the Oregon National Guard (federalized or not) since holy shit, letting a bunch of armed thugs run loose on the streets of a major city violating people's civil rights while the police look the other way is exactly what the National Guard is supposed to stop. Something of the sort could probably be done under the Posse Comitatus Act if you could establish there was an actual state of insurrection, rather than just more routine public disorder. Or the state could literally dissolve the local government and replace it. Fat chance of that in Oregon, though.

If you read the Solzy in one of his boring books about the gulags, not the fun ones about the jews, he describes devout party members in the gulag continuing on with their delusions. One mother even wrote to her children and told them to denounce her for better lives, such was her faith in the soviet government.

I always cringe at people talking about centrism. If we are absolutely honest, everyone wants the state (or some other actor) to violently enforce their views. America has reached a point where the left and right have deep rooted irreconcilable differences and at this point the only healthy way to end this is to have a civil war and allow the winner to take all or break apart the country. I don't think the Left is particularly interested in allowing the right to break off or secede, so we'll just have a nice big war over it.

I for one cannot wait for it all to be over.

The interesting thing to me is that the right was a reaction, the Left created the modern white nationalist movement. They could stop at anytime with the 'progress' and try reconciliation but it'll just keep going until it breaks.

I have always detested antifa and its spiritual and organizational predecessors like Anti-Racist Action and other such groups that mainly existed as the political form of sports hooligans, because their actions are ridiculously counterproductive and destructive and, frankly, just outright fucking dumb.

Their repellent habit of attacking completely innocent bystanders is one of my least favorite features of them, and this, whether it's out of pure stupidity or, at least in equal mixture, that they're just out there to attack random people and don't really care about collateral damage, has always annoyed me because of its pure stupidity. It doesn't make any allies.

And I think the whole "punch Nazis" meme is bullshit anyway and virtually nobody these people attack, even if they are right wing, are even Nazis. They wouldn't know a Nazi if one was railing their mom in front of them, which probably happens.

The modern American left is a brand. They are obsessed with brand image. It doesn’t matter if they can win arguments, if they can force media corporations to delete comments that dunk on them, then you can’t find brand-negative comments online. If they pretend they oppose something when the opposition does it, then use it themselves because it works, that’s in service to the brand. It doesn’t matter what it is, because all that matters is money, power and reputation. In the same vein, antifa doesn’t exist or didn’t do anything wrong ever, because they serve the brand.
