You know maybe we should ask some Estonians what they feel about WW2. Or some Ukranian Banderists. You see a lot of appeals to a prioristic assumption of heer soldats = bad that just isn't as present in other areas of the world. Parts of the Ukrainian population were very happy when the Grenadiers rolled in and broke the bars on their churches. Estonians chose to throw in with the Germans to attempt to maintain their independence. The grey jackbooted yahtzees were people who often either had voted for the current german regime or whose families had. The iron cross and the stahlhelm may have different meanings in different regions beyond historical atrocities that have been elevated to religious levels of importance. Just a thought.
I also find the "if your WW2 game isn't 100% realistic down to every pebble in the bocage, it isn't accurate at all therefore scrub all the friendship windmills" line of thinking kind of bizarre. Like bruh, have you read any period memiors? Nobody remembers exact stuff from firefights and some notable people who get cited a lot straight up made stuff up.
