This is the same guy who unironically likes Muslim Marvel and called her comic great Muslim representation so expecting Linkara to have actual taste would be naive. Besides, considering his generally awful taste in movies, I don't think it's a stretch to assume his taste in comics is equally bad. And what the hell right does Linkara have to criticize bad comic books when his own writing is almost on par with the actual bad stuff he reviews?

Actually, it's quite common for critics to be bad at writing original stories. When you're writing a story, you're taking a risk and laying bare a part of yourself. If you've critiqued writers who were doing that, you may shrink from doing that yourself, since you can imagine what kind of criticism might be launched against you. You might be afraid of taking the ego hit, so you'll try to write something that other people will think is "good," not realizing that your writing sounds "faker" than it would have if you had not been so self-conscious.

It's also, as a rule, easier to critique the way another person does a job than it is to do that job yourself. Writing isn't just typing words onto a page. It's creating a fictional universe, creating characters, crafting a compelling narrative, making an intro to your story that draws readers in, keeping track of varying plot threads and making sure everything that happens makes sense and is internally consistent with the setting. Critiquing is just taking writing that someone else has done and describing why it failed or succeeded on some level. You don't need to spend months creating all of the elements of a story from scratch just to read the story and point out its shortcomings. All you'll need is a few hours or days, depending on the length of the story and number of mistakes made.

I know some might say you don’t need to be a chef to recognize crappy food or a director to say a movie sucks. Even Robert Ebert wrote a shitty script.

But here is the thing. If you can’t create you need, at least, prove you have good taste and an idea of what a good story should be. Lightbringer proved that Linkara has no idea how to tell a good story period. And as such he has how no idea what he is talking about during criticism.

As a critic it might’ve been forgivable it was mediocre, normal story. but it really was just a Mary Sue self insert story. That’s all his stories are, incredibly shallow power fantasies.

I don’t want to be too harsh on him, as I do feel bad, but it still blows my mind how Lewis can’t for his life outgrow already his Mary sue power fantasy stage already. Most writers outgrow it during their teens after writing some bad fanfics.

Writing stories as if you were still a child playing with toys is just unacceptable for someone who works as a critic.

He doesn’t seem to grasp he is supposed to write to entertain his fans not himself.

Funny thing is, Ebert wrote a bad script, yes, but he went out and actually tried. Linkaras "comic" is basically chunks of other comics where he inserted himself as Gebus. Ebert may have not been a good screenwriter but he did put out something that had its own legs to stand on even if it was a weird depressing script that was rated NC-17.

I think Linkara started out writing something that he thought was fun and then a few pages down the line he started to imagine he was doing something special...even though it was exceptional.

Best part of this was...Beyond the Valley of the dolls was a commercial success and became popular cult content....Linkara has the distinguished honor of making one of the worst comic ever made but also making a shitty movie that got half the score of Eberts movie.

This guy defeated Pyramid Head, a nigh unstoppable Silent Hill monster made to be a punishment of your sins, and basically turned him into a Pokemon. He even used a Pokeball to summon him one time, I'm not kidding. And a villain of one of his story arcs is a goddamn Missingno. And it's taken completely seriously when it sounds like a joke.

You miss one thing (or more than one, but we will get to that). There is a part in his masterpiece, where it turns out that the leader of slavery ring, prepare yourself, donated money for charity. And when police is taking him to the station, he screams something like "I was doing good things, without me you can't function". OK, you may think that this is incredibly autistic attempt at making a villain, that has his reasons and not so bad after all, but nope - in the comments Linky says, that he was on convention or some shit and had an argument with two guys about "black and white or shades of grey". They owned him, so he decided TO SHOW THAT THEY WERE WRONG THIS WAY and that there is only black and white. So he was preachy and annoying even back then. And about "outgrowing bad traits" - I don't remember exact dates, but I do remember that he started this comic, when he was late 17/early 18 and continued for 4 or 5 years. You may say, that he was young and all, but I for one can't imagine myself doing shit like this with a serious face in that age. Also, keep in mind that his porn accounts were verified not only because he had his real name and address, but also link to the Lightbringer website. Yes, he wanted to share his Mary Sue shit comic with a people who masturbate to incest and rape. Yes, Lewis is that autistic.

His commentary comes off as combative and condescending, and it's almost entirely negative. And, yes, you can say that about AVGN, but that's taken so far out that it approaches the absurd. With Linkara and most of Channel Awesome, they come off as smug. Can you imagine how insufferable MST3K would be if they took that approach?

And you mentioned MST3K, which is appropriate since that show's whole shtick was maintaining positivity while watching shitty movies, and is one of the many things CA and other angry reviewers failed to grasp when making their angry, shouty videos.

And it doesn't help that these "characters" have names like Nostalgia Critic, Nostalgia Chick, Cinema Snob, Film Brain, Spoony, Linkara, and Obscurus Lupa AND have to refer to each other by these names.

At least Lupa, Nash, Joe, even spoony and linkara to an extent have like, short enough names that it's not complete aids, but names like Film Brain and Nostalgia Critic are just awkward

The CTC crowd all suffered from the same problems and hence they never made their internet "fame" substantiable unlike others like Cinema Snob, NC, AVGN, Angry Joe, etc.

Now the first one Linkara does succeeded in and it's why he's top of the hep with views when it comes to the CTC crowd and that is to have success you have to be a work horse putting content out regularly like clockwork.

Now part two is where Linkara fails like the rest and that's diversifying content on a regular basis you have to put out regularly more than just your core character to expand you appeal outside of your own niche fan base.

There's a video by Emperor Lemon I like called Leafy Was Here, where there's a quote I like and will paraphrase a bit here. "On YouTube, if you keep doing the same thing over and over, you'll lose your audience, but if you change up your style and format occasionally, maybe you'll be able to stick around" it just seems like something this group really needed to understand
